Interesting that in the picture at 4:59 3 of the 4 buildings still exist. The engine would have just been clear of N. Jefferson St.
Got 9 years and 4 months of stories from that place... 40 years ago. AY4127
What loco derailed?
Locos #4, 2nd 5, and 12 that I know of, plus #7 collapsed an ageing turntable.
I see my mother in law in this photo of their class.

thank you, Bryan..... great slide show, many pictures new to me.... filled in some gaps before my next visit to the railroad....
@ 08:25-32 Not EBT, maybe H&BT, but the gauge is wrong. Try again.
No need to be a dick with the snide "try again" comment. Make a video yourself if you're so inclined.
Oh my, this brings back good memories.
My in laws or ex inlaws are from this small town. He worked at the Golf course in the 70's thru 90's and his father in law owned a car lot back in the 50's.
My grandmother was born 1930 and raised in Mount Union moved in Chambersburg 1948. I had many trips to Mount Union with her to visit her relatives. And I still go every year to put flowers on Graves over memorial weekend.
very nice
I just did 7 years there fukk huntingdon!
How do I obtain an original copy or print of a few of the Mount Union photos?
Mannn fuck huntingdo. MC5155
Lived in Mt Union from 66 thru 1973. Italian parents and lived next to the projects in Allenport. Later moved to Mt Union on Pennsylvania ave right above the RR tracks in big Red House. Later became an old retirement home. Saw the waters rushing thru middle of town from hurricane agnes. Moved into town during racial tensions and was took in by the black community. Best memories ever playing baseball on the hard tops in the projects. I owe my entire life to the black community here to allow me into their rich and powerful culture. To this day thousands of miles away I keep in touch with Heltons. They made me who I am today. I'm retired from the Air Force and my only regret is no graduating from MUAHS. I moved to Richmond Va and ended graduating there in 75.
Good info, pics, but sad ending. What happened to the cabooses, etc? I hope that they got restored or taken by someone who kept them up. Please share that history. Porter Dude of Ohio.
I did 3 years there... It's def a rough stop
If anybody still monitors this channel are there any movies of any of the coal trestles being serviced, such as the Mt. Union wye coal trestle or the "Puckey" coal trestle at Orbisonia?
I think some have surfaced on another vid called mt union area industry
Great news about the EBT reopening. Also good news about #16 being restored. Any progress about the baggage and combination car they retrieved from Colorado several years ago? *\0/*\0/the same

I heard some real estate developer had the Mt. Union coal trestle destroyed. Why did Mr. Salone allow that to happen?
@@donaldambrose7292 They're in the restoration que, but it'll be a while.
Brian, do you know of ANY MU bridges to have power/telegraph poles that crossed with the bridges, please see new photo on if ur from MU area page... Someone found a REALLY old pic and it may predate any we have? I'm not sure, but I know I don't have any pics of this bridge he posted... And thank you for ur bridges slideshow, it's helped me a lot to learn so much about our history, and I may have used one of ur pictures for references un one of my Museum paintings, please see my FB page, I will be doing a DOA's that go with my paintings, if you recognize anything of the paintings that may have been ur photo references please message me, but I mostly got them from state archives...
This prison was considered one of the worse prisons, is that true?
Bryan, am I correct that EBT never hauled bricks from Harbison Walker Brick plant???
Miss and loved EBT...the hills and valleys are absent of that lonesome whistle blowing...why can't someone bring it back into operation, it sure is missed
Dianne and the community chorus!

Thank you for posting this video! My Dad was born & raised in Mount Union. I set him up on UA-cam so he can watch all of your videos. It brings back lots of great memories. He is 86 and sharp as a tack! He remembers lots of things he sees on your videos. Again, Thank you!
bryan. looking for info on mt union bridge.
Great video! Some photos that are new to me. One correction; all the photos labeled engine #2 are actually #1. Number 2 had an eight wheeled tender, but otherwise was supposedly identical to number 1. To my knowledge no photos have surfaced of that engine.
I've never heard that. Sources?
@@ReggieArford the Rainey and Kyler book mentions the lack of photographic records for number 2, at least on the EBT. I’m told that some exist from the railroad that it ended up on. Baldwin records are available that confirm that 2 was nearly identical to number 1.
@@ReggieArford also all the photos referencing number 2 in your video are identified in the Rainey and Kyper book as number 1. The first slide, bottom photo shows number 1 as rebuilt with a wagon top boiler, to pull the presidents car. The second slide that incorrectly identifies the engine as number 2 actually shows number 1 equipped as the furnace shifter. If you don’t have a copy, I can provide screenshots
@@jonathanmorningstar7731 This isn't my video, and I have *The East Broad Top* by Rainey & Kyper - almost memorized in fact. (I'm a looong-time member of the Friends.) The first six EBT engines were all Baldwin catalog engines: two #1's, three #3's, and a #6. The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania has many BLW builder's photos. They may have one of #2, but there's no evidence she was built with a different tender. When eventually sold, she may have acquired a different tender, though.
Mr. Donaldson, I have viewed this film about 10 times and can't stop smiling, I know all the people included and seeing childhood friends long forgotten. Wow!!! Thanks so very much, You may recall that I met you three years ago, I was in Mt. Union visiting my sisters; Poochie Collins and Erma Wilkerson. You came to my sisters (Erma) home on Grant Street and we talked about Ganister Hill. I have since found some pictures of my family dating back to the 30's, 40's and 50's; I can share them with you. Once again thanks so very much, An excellent and outstanding piece of history. I'm on Facebook or you may contact me via email. hrrsngllwy@aol.com
AWESOME memories of those gone on before us!! Praise the LORD for those that are still here.!!! Thanks Bryan Donaldson!!
thank you.
Really enjoyed your video! Would you have more pictures of Cooks, Robertsdale, Wood, Coaldale, Defiance , Riddlesburg, or Saxton area? Thanks!
