I think because of the frequency of flights and competition. KQ flies two daily 737’s, Indigo comes with a daily A320 NEO and competition from the ME carriers. Also I don’t think KQ has enough wide bodies to fulfill current demand on their existing network.

A bit of both. I think the 777-300ER has the best mix of pax and belly capacity in their fleet and they have a large cargo presence in Nairobi.

To my knowledge / memory they brought it here briefly before Covid. These days it’s mainly Dash 8 na recently max 9.

Its like KQ are the only airline in the region without a single Airbus. the should be having an a220 at least. that plane for it size has an amazing range.

@@pmbuthia4210 actually the E jets are proving to be too small for KQ so presumably that also applies to the A220. Many of the airlines routes are now mature so the 737/A320 makes more sense at this point in time. As to why KQ doesn’t operate Airbus , they currently have an A330-200 on wetlease. If they were to take on Airbus in their mainline fleet I think the fleet synergies would require them to make a complete switch to the manufacturer.

@@aaaviation1 yeah I've seen they've wet listed A320-300 from Hi Fly. Yes the E-jets are too small for the demand that KQ is gaining. The decision to faced out their 777s was a big mistake. But they also need a mid size plane. The A330 & B787 are near for perfect size for the demand they have at the moment.

@@pmbuthia4210 the B777-300ER might have been too big for them at the time. I reckon the 787-9 will be a good fit for growth on some of their more mature long haul routes
