XC from Serps
A beautiful day for XC flying. Awesome views and then my buddy threw his reserve and we had to stop to go help. He was fine. ;) Life happens!

I had a short but sweet scenic XC flight at Sedge the other day. A great thermal on the hill followed by a great cloud street enticed me to go for the ride over the back. It was beautiful! :) Oh and I just couldnt help use this sweet paragliding XC song to help it along. ;)

Time lapse of a flight from Serpentine to Sedgefield - one of our popular local XC sites. A weak day, lots of overdevelopment but I was so desperate to fly this day. Lots of circling, just drifting and staying up, enjoying the amazing views! And the feeling of just being in the air and flying. :)) Eventually had a happy and lucky ending. :)) Here is the link for the track log of the flight. www...

A little edit of one of our popular local XC routes. Flying from Sedgefield, to Gerrickes point, then on to Paradise Ridge, jumping to the CarPark and then on to the Hotel. :) Thats five flying sites in one! A beautiful summer playground here in Wilderness. :))
Flare Moustache 26 versus Zeno 1 S
Переглядів 5 тис.Рік тому
So Armin and I have had a few flights together to make some comparisons between the 2 liners and his Moustache 26. Mostly I win but not this time. ;) The big Moustache has come a long way in intruding into the world of general paragliding, thanks to great marketing and of course a great product. But I still love my Zeno and Armin favours his Moustache 26. ;) Enjoy!

An amazing flight from the Map of Africa to the Outenikwa mountains (and back). A day of light lift making for lots of thermaling but satisfying lift line seeking lucked me into an awesome flight. :))

An unusual flight from Sedgefield to Noetsie beach. the aim was to fly over the heads and if the wind was good continue to Plett. :))

A sweet cruise along the coastal cliffs of Wilderness and on to the inland thermals of Sedgefield for some excitement before returning for a chilled ending. ;) Wilderness at its best. :) PS: The glide from Gerrickes to Sedge - I got a 19/1 glide to make that jump. Yes, it was with some down wind but negotiating the sink behind the hill with a dog leg made this a nailbiter thing... ;) lol

Sweet Paragliding XC along the Outenikwa mountains with some friends (at the start at least) ;)
Awesome flight & very well filmed. Would love to fly this route with you some day !
Looked like a great day and glad your Buddy was safe.
It was a good day Don! Took us two hours to get his wing and reserve out the trees! ;)
Excellent videos. Thanks...
Thanks! :)
Got it. Thanks.
I asked about the song. Did something Wrong and my question dint post. Nice video and Beautiful song. WoW ! Chat GPT ( Gulp)
@@XCWings Exactly! This AI stuff is scary. 😅
Nice! What song is this? Beautiful.
Good one Johan! Greetings from Seychelles
Good morning! Its it you Don? :)
Yip, it's me

The season is starting 🙌
Gratuliere, ein toller Flug!
Thank you. ;)
wow that was incredible !!!!!!!!!!!
Incredible!
Whats your all up weight on the Zeno? I fly the Z2 small and AUW is 86/88kg and im not convinced on the small, maybe MS would have been better
I also fly a Z2 now. The small. Love the glider. AUW 83-85kg. My sink rate is as good as anything out there. ;)
Wait. You can do thermaling with the moustache ?
Wait, what..!? Didnt you know that if you have a Moustache you can do what ever the hell you want! ;)
@@wild2flyparagliding160 it’s just that everything I’ve seen so far was soaring and furious speed flying down the mountains from moustache pilots. Goes to show I was wrong. Mind asking what is your weight ? Great video.
Hey Johan. Ive just bought the plot next to where you have just landed. Thats gonna be my new home in a couple of months.
Looks like it's not about Moustache having any advantage: you just fell away from the core in this uncertain thermal. Happens all the time. But I may be wrong...
Probably you are right. ;) But the theory is that Armin thinks he can do quicker corrections in the turbulent cores - get his speed up faster and therefore adjust more efficiently and do better in the climb. Who knows for sure - in turbulent cores its often just a lucky turn that makes the difference. ;)
Guys go there! We've seen even sharks in the water along the paradise ridge!
Yeah, those big men in the grey suits are around there from time to time! ;)
That's South Africa, right? Been there coastal soaring only. What a magic view!
It is. You would probably love this video then. ;) ua-cam.com/video/T0imA_DjI8A/v-deo.htmlsi=OrxnxEoZ5YydNx7K
Could you explain me what makes the moustache better in rough and broken thermals? I dont quite understand the logic there.
There is no logic here. I think it is probably just the pilot. ;)
nice one! really showcases why we do this crazy stuff :)
Indeed! Love this crazy thing we do. ;)
Lekker edit, looks like a fun one. Would love to do this flight one day
It is def one of the more tricky routes of the area. So a good one to do. ;)
How exhilarating!
Mad skills ... 👍😁
Lots of good luck! 😂
What a great flight, thanks for taking us along .
So glad you enjoyed this one Gareth! :)
what a save
Indeed! :)
What a great flight, and an awesome low save there over Mark’s new nut orchards👏👏
Thanks Morne! Yes, it was a nailbiter for a few moments. :)
Amazing! 😍
It sure was special Kane. 👊💥🤩
Very nice. What wing is that?
Its a UP Guru. :)
Amazing Bro!
That jump still makes me move forward on the edge of my seat...way too close.
Me too! At least its not as bad as the Gerrickes point lee side rotor! Now thats a bit hectic! lol 😉
Nice one Johan...lekker flight,.glad to have shared that starting thermal. Happy new year and all the best for 2024
It was lekker as they say Wj! And the best for 2024 to you too. ;)
and yet you want to retire ? Dude you love this sport Waaaaay too much , its your passion .
Thats exactly why I want to retire Jon - so I can fly more!!! 😂
@@wild2flyparagliding160 😜 lol of course , Now I get it , see you soon boet 😎
Nice flight Johan. Happy New year!
Thank you! And happy new year to you too! 😎
Beautiful video and soaring equipment. I want to try parasoaring some time. Be careful turning a circle inside each other. Its only a matter of time before one or the other misjudges height. Make sure your circle isntt crossing against others.
We sure do! 😊
What were your totals: relative weights for size (proj area) Then ; wingloadings ~4.5?
Not exactly sure. Armin looks slightly heavier than me - Im 74kg and the Zeno is 21m projected area. 😉
what is Armin's approx. all up weight on the Moustache 26?
I do not know. 😉
Awesome..............
Thanks 🤗
Can I fly a 26 moustache with 80KG flying weight only? I want one for thermaling. So far, I do it with my 18. Works like a charm, but breakpressure is quite heavy over time, so I wonder how it is with a 26.
I dont have much experience on the 26 but it is way different to the 18 (I owned an 18). The 26 does thermal better than the 18 with less break pressure (though the intent is not necessarily for thermaling even if it does it very well.). 😉
@@wild2flyparagliding160 Thanks ;) As it is the most collapse resistant wing ever, I think it's very much for thermaling, but that's just my personal opinion and it might considerably differ from mainstream ;P
@@P4n0r4mAif you collapse cravat the flare it is important to know the tailslide immediately no matter how resistant if your inland then bad air will collapse the leading edge.
@@5ty717You can't tailslide a moustache. It will never fly backwards, ever. And from all the Mo's out there, not a single frontal collapse has been reported. Not from those soaring in 60km/h winds, nor those who dare to thermal. None.
The moustache 26 is new or relatively. The original advice was thermal air and moustaches did not go together but that was prior to the 26 coming out. Your video was very impressive and have wanted to add to my 18 which I fly at the coast. This video has made up my mind I will definitely be getting a 26. Flair moustache have revolutionised paragliding with a unique riser system. This has already been copied many like little cloud and mullet.
Amazing moments indeed! Unfortunately, its almost impossible to find one nowadays, let alone in Europe. Do you know of other aerodinamically controlled glider designs like Millenium, apart from SWIFT?
I just love at around 3:30 how I laugh out of shear fun and joy at the turbulence. Can't do that in a paraglider. 😂
I flew flex wings for years, ALWAYS wanting to fly a Millenium. Couldn't make that happen so I moved to sailplanes, then power. Never as much fun.
It is indeed a rare privilege for hang glider pilots to fly a Millennium. I treasure all my flying memories with this amazing glider. :)
Thank you Richard. It certainly had loads of eye candy moments. :)
That looks amazing.
salam dari Indonesia, your video is very interesting and very clear 😃👍
Thank you! :)
What a great HG video :) How does this glider compare to a WW T3 or Sport 3 ? I've only flown a falcon 4 and sport 3. Could this same flight be accomplished with a ww sport 3?
Thanks for the compliment on the video. :) I dont think you would have done this on a S3.., maybe a T3 though the Atos is def better performing than a T3 (sink rate and glide) - the T3 on the other hand is much faster. (The Atos VNE is 90kph) this has to do with the rigid nature of wings versus the loadshedding capabilities of flex wings. ;)
Ah I miss Wilderness so much. 4 months to go before I arrive
Is this in South Africa? Beautifully shot!
Yes, a very popular area for paragliding (and hang gliding) ;) Wilderness on the Garden Route in the Western Cape. Google it.
💕👌💜👍💕
What app is showing the tracklog?
I am using www.sportstracklive.com And its free too.😉
Yeah make them PGs jealous!!! Isn't there any launch spot on the mountain range already? And can you fly XC further into the mountain range?
Yes and yes and yes on all three accounts. :) But the mountain launches are difficult to get to so we are all spoilt for the ease of access near the coast not to mention all the great restaurants and coffee shops near by! lol ;) The local distance record was flown on a PG from Serpentine (I pass over that spot around the 40s mark in the video) and is around 100 miles along the mountains to the west. You can do it in a hangie but the many areas with lack of landing spots makes it un attractive option to the hangies but for the PG's its fine. This is a PG flight I did from one of the mountain launches we have here. ua-cam.com/video/zvKJyn-g5TI/v-deo.html :)
How does the Atos compare with your Millenium Glider?
Better in all aspects except comfort. :)) The Mill is just soooo cozy - can fly for hours and hours! ;)
Great stuff Johan! Just shows that local knowledge and a good glide ratio opens many possibilities! Keep exploring! 😎
Dankie Pieter! Ek geniet hierdie glider hoor... ;)
