    Hi John, I also watched your video and swapped theV50 cabin filter. Followed your method even though I have seen elsewhere all sorts of short cuts. This way you do it properly as you say, you wont disturb the fusebox wiring, wont rip the new filter etc. In fact it was a lengthy but reasonably enjoyable job which I know I have done properly, Glad I wasn't paying garage rates! Unlike one of the other posters it took me a couple of hours but that was partly explained by having to search out some replacement screws and one of the fusebox bracket bolts that was missing! Incidentally like one of the other posters there was a single butterfly headed screw (white nylon) holding the filter door. Although I didn't, because of messing around near the fusebox I think disconnecting the battery would have been a good idea and will if there is a next time. Thanks again, I had already twice started and abandoned other attempts using the method in the Haynes manual, which is hopeless compared to old Haynes manuals. Think I will use it as loo paper!

    Do you still have the jcb 8010 and has it been a good machine i'm looking at one next week to buy just wondering if you've had any major problems ?

    • @johnbower
      @johnbower 15 днів тому

      Yes I still have my JCB micro digger, the previous owner had not given it proper care, so I thoroughly checked over the machine, gave it a proper service and rectified what was needed ( as can be seen in a few of my videos) one thing I did not show in a video was where two hydraulic hoses had rubbed together and started to chafe through the steel webbing, I think this could be a common problem with this machine due to a lot of hoses passing through a small space, I did rectify this problem by using long cable ties to hold the hoses away from each other. Another thing that needs checking if the machine has been used in deep mud, the two metal covers that cover the drive motors need to be removed and you will find that the drive motors will be completely covered in mud and the metal ends of the hoses to these motors will be badly rusting.

    hi john i find your videos really helpful, i have a 8010 micro and the track extender is jammed on one side. Is this likely to be the ram pin mentioned at the end of your video? Any help would be much appreciated thanks richard

    • @johnbower
      @johnbower Місяць тому

      Hi Richard, the pins in the ends of the rams for extending the tracks may well be seized, but because these two rams only push and pull in a straight line without having to pivot I don't think this is your problem, I did find that these pins where seized on my own Micro digger, probably because the grease nipples get overlooked due to them being difficult to see, ( I do show in one of my other videos how I removed these seized pins.) If you get the digger jacked up with the tracks hanging free off the ground you should be able to see if anything is jammed, I don't think it is an hydraulic issue because if one track is getting pushed out then the other should be. Note: when using these rams to push the tracks in & out the tracks should always be off the ground by lowering the blade at one end and bucket the other end, if this method is not used the fixings at the end of the rams take a lot of strain and can break off.

    Great video for those with limited tools / garage facilities, and good detail of the steps needed. Will of course be noticeably quicker for those who own ratchet spanners or impact wrenches but I like the traditional DIY approach, very informative. Never underestimate a good heavy duty bench vice. I drove a fair distance many years ago to purchase a genuine used Record No. 5 vice in excellent condition for £45. Worth their weight in gold these days and it weighs a lot! 😅 Great homemade lift accessory and I will be watching your build video for this.

I have no roller or discs, just the cutting blade underneath a steel 'sled' with winch and battery (and me) on top, 18" x 12" steel plate with front edge angled up. I'm wondering if cutting discs or tangs would solve the tendency to 'up periscope'!.

    Lifting a vehicle for underside service is a problem for everyone without a lift. Jacks and jackstands can be sketchy. I have a project car that needed a torque converter replacement, which means dropping the transmission, as well as running a complete new exhaust system, which required a bunch of cutting and fitting before welding it all together. I knew I'd be spending a lot of time under my vehicle and wasn't going to constantly raise and lower it and setup jacks and jackstands. I had a set of 10" wide truck wheels and tires and some 2x12 lumber, so I raised each corner of the project vehicle enough to slide a truck wheel under it and rest a section of 2x12 across the truck wheel. This got my vehicle roughly one foot off the ground on a stable platform and granted me enough room to work comfortably and safely for the duration i needed to complete my tasks. John, i appreciate your ingenuity in trying to solve a problem we all deal with.

    • @johnbower
      @johnbower 2 місяці тому

      My lift would have been ideal for the work you have done, the lift only takes a few minutes to raise a car to varying heights and gives clear access to the entire underside, and when the lift is not in use the frames stand on their ends in corner of the garage taking up little space. Thanks for your comment.

    couple of suggestions,should have 8 plates with 1/2 inch flat on bottom of main frame to keep from going thru concrete small pieces welded to keep square (not welded to bottom just placed under), second strap tie the wheels to frame to keep from rolling off, one more is frame could be made slide side to side adjustable by inner and outer square so to slide and holes to lock with pins,would make more compact to store too. good design simple. if your concrete is good and thick ok but might give way with just those pipes pushing down if thin.

      Yes if being used on a soft surface or thin concrete floor metal plates must be placed under the legs to spread the load. There is no danger of a car with average size wheels rolling off the frames especially a car with small wheels. When the frames are not in use they stand up on their ends in corner of garage taking up little space, Thanks for watching.
