Mr. Blue Sky - Hidden Harmonies - Deconstructing the Electric Light Orchestra
One of my favorite songs and one of the most famous feel-good songs ever. Mr. Blue Sky is a clear example of how vocal layers can turn a strong melody into a vocal - and a choral - masterpiece.
As there is so much going on, it was very difficult to filter out from the original mix all the single harmonies - be it by ear or by using a software. Some notes (especially endings) are so buried down in the mix, that I had to "fill in the blanks".
This complexity really shows us the capability of Jeff Lynne to come up with such great vocal arrangements. Headphones on and enjoy!
All vocals and instrumentals recorded by VEVOnica, except for the royalty-free drum track, found on Wikiloops: www.wikiloops.com/backingtrack-jam-15719.php

The Chain - Hidden Harmonies - Deconstructing Fleetwood Mac
Переглядів 45 тис.2 роки тому
With the Rumours album turning 45 today, I thought it would be interesting to deconstruct one of the most representative songs by Fleetwood Mac (and one of my all time favorites), The Chain. This analysis is based on the studio recording. Compared to my other deconstruction video, which was about ABBA, this song features less layers. However, what really catches my attention is the interchangea...
Knowing Me, Knowing You - Hidden Harmonies - Deconstructing ABBA's Multi-Layered Vocals
Переглядів 61 тис.3 роки тому
Multi-layered vocal harmonies are ABBA's distinctive feature. The chorus of "Knowing Me, Knowing You" is the perfect example of their massive work in the recording studio, which resulted in gorgeous, solid and sometimes hidden harmonies - i.e. buried in the final mix. After isolating and analyzing ABBA's vocals by ear, I recorded each and every part featured in the chorus, trying to recreate th...
Lemon Tree - Reggae Cover (One-Woman Band)
Переглядів 1,1 тис.3 роки тому
Reggae cover of "Lemon Tree" by Fool's Garden. A fun attempt to record a song turning my acoustic guitar into three different instruments (bass, electric guitar and synth-like fills) - plus vocals. The royalty-free drum loop featured in the video is available at www.wikiloops.com/backingtrack-jam-59375.php ("Reggae Beat 75 Bpm"). Headphones recommended. Enjoy!

One of the most impressive videos I’ve seen on UA-cam. Thank you. I played this song as a radio DJ in 1978 and this song, along with “Name of the Game” made me a lifelong ABBA fan. ABBA is to the 70s what The Beatles were to the 60s. Masterful songwriting combined with the highest levels of musicianship.

Sounds great, but you end your first line of Stevie on a C (so on the word 'rise'), which, together with the other vocals, makes it into a C major chord. I'm pretty sure that Stevie ends on a B, making it an E minor chord. Both sound nice, but if you want to give an exact rendition, I'm pretty sure you should sing a B note there.

AMAZING VIDEO AND GREAT VOICE. I just want to add one thing on the technical side. Forgive me if I'm overstepping or hearing things incorrectly but I think you kept the same volume throughout the different voices. But sounds panned to the right and left tend to pop more and draw all the focus from the center. So it could sound better if you turned down the right and left voices just a tad bit. Such a cool video tho.

Are Stevie's, Lindsey's, and Christine's vocals separated by an octave in the harmonies, or are they in different keys?

Listen to the wind blow, watch the sun rise Running in the shadows, damn your love, damn your lies And if you don't love me now You will never love me again I can still hear you saying You would never break the chain (never break the chain) And if you don't love me now (you don't love me now) You will never love me again I can still hear you saying (still hear you saying) You would never break the chain (never break the chain)

If there's one thing I really love, it's VOCAL HARMONY! It's wonderful, showing how all the parts work and also how complete harmony works! And it's worth highlighting the singer's beautiful voice and range! congratulations on the work! And keep showing this deconstruction of harmonies!
