She was dubbed the Scottish Scarlet Pimpernel for helping innocent prisoners caught up in the chaos of the Spanish civil war. Now the neglected story of Ethel MacDonald, a free-thinking anarchist jailed for her efforts in Barcelona, is to be told in a film marking the war's 70th anniversary. The film's producer, Alison Murphy, said MacDonald's tale deserved to gain wider recognition because she...

Mexican anarchism has a very interesting and long history. In the Mexico City, it initiated in 1860 with the arrival of a Greek called Rodakanathy that built a school wherein were popularized ideas from Bakunin - the rurals of Chalco - who organized the first revolts against the government of Benito Juárez. Later, some time before the revolution and with the help of the constant migration from ...

At 26:30, the headmaster asks the organist the name of the "voluntary" he played. The organist replied, "Buxtehude." He's wrong, of course. It is Widor's Toccata.

Ah , for the days
First saw this in it's year of release in the Empire cinema, Shrewsbury. Being a Rocker on a bike already put us on the edge of appropriate and acceptable societal norms, and the anti-establishment theme to this film resonated with many of us, but then we grew up. :) Still, the closing scenes of Malcom McDowell wreathed in gun smoke from a .303 Bren gun is the scene I remember whenever I think of this genre and class defining piece of cinema history.
It wasn't a bren gun, A sten gun, I think....
???
@@davidbaxter4910 Watch the film again Mr Baxter. Malcom McDowell was using a .303 Ben gun, easily identified by it's flared muzzle and being much larger than a SMG and replaced by the 7.62 Bren gun in the 1960's. The other 'rebels' were using 9mm Stirling SMG's and 9mm Stens. The 'rebel' girl dispatched the headmaster with a .45 Webley, a very lucky shot at that range. The senior Army officer was using a .303 Lee Enfield No 4, one of the finest rifles of the twentieth century.
Diddy is the latest victim of this along with Bill Cosby
at school in 77 i studied filming yes it was a course and this film stood out must have watched it 3 times then very anti establishment another good one easy rider

Shameful what America did to black people and this is coming from a while English man, Malcolm x is one of my heros and read his autobiography years ago, why is he one of my heros, well I haven't got enough time to explain.
Same 👍 got a Black Jesuz for this as T.U.P.A.C - The Undisputed Pope Aint Catholic too. Cos when God guided Nat, he a guided a woman called "Moses" (harriet) leading her people out of bondage (no Diddy) with 400 years of slavery like Exodus and the gov seeking to "prevent the rise of a black messiah "...well... if u reap what u sow what does that require? Bible in context; Jesus CAME SOON for the lost of HIS NATION 70AD when the temple was destroyed, 70AD, prophesied in MATT 24 and known historically as the Seige of Jerusalem. Not sure how much u know of Tupac, but Pac grew out of the Black Panther movement with all his family being revolutionaries/political prisoners. He was marked for death and the FBI had a 4000 page dossier on him. Well, he prophesied his death to perfection and i was predestined for a witness. Got a great vid on my channel, THE BLACK MESSIAH THE FBI COINTELPRO FEARED ... Just 13 mins of clips painting this picture and it all checks out. Tons of beyond chance evidence to all this too. Just started up my Church Of TUPAC page on Facebook again from fresh. God doesn't like ugly and He doesn't start what He hasn't already finished. He guided Nat. He guided Hat. He guided Malcolm, who is such a beautiful person btw. Absolutely love that guy. And Pac was the final judgement..... cos those laws they got can't make anybody righteous. So the Holy Spirit will run like an Underground Railroad and gather her people and lead her people out once and for all.
This person's reasoning is incoherent. He makes declarative statements without supporting arguments. He makes broad assumptions without explaining those assumption. He 100% has demonstrated an ignorance of what non-violence is, suggesting that it would oppose self-defense and destruction of property. Non-violence has a rich history of success. Non-violence is not the media or protesters protecting bank windows. Non-violence is not just permitted marches, chanting slogans, and holding signs. Non-violence, in the context of political philosophical theory, is a sophisticated and historied frame-work of resistance to all oppression. It can be burning down police stations, blowing up pipelines, and blockading shipping channels. But it isn't reckless at the expense of its goals and peoples lives. That's the key to the philosophy. Very disappointing video. And I'm afraid it will give better educated people the entirely wrong idea about anarchism, that the only methods it embraces is terrorizing people, mass murder and assassination. That's what people will assume from this. Who the hell is going to want to join that movement. No decent person. This video protects the state.
Sweet, I couldn't find it to pirate it. But how can we get a version with at least 720p?
Hopefully, this will get my mother to understand why I support Mumia.
Ordinary people mislead. To fantasize about other workers joining the strike to bring the country to its knees is sad. To blackmail a country is shameful
Intelligence services should have been used. Scargill was in with the Soviets. Treasonous in my opinion. Getting money from the soviets is another sad chapter of this ridiculously selfish strike forcing the people to pay for uneconomical mines.
The coal miners union should be embarrassed. To demand taxpayers to pay for uneconomic mines would be a cancer to the British economy. Where would it stop if they won? People still would be using coal today. Ironic that the left has turned against Coal due to Climate change. But the left’s tactics are the same. Try to make people feel guilty, force people to bend to their will by harassment and overall push their agenda when it defies logic. It was a well needed social statement when they lost. The world moves forward and won’t be held back by harassment and illogical positions.

The storming of the Winter Palace 1:10:44 was actually just a couple dozen guys with rifles showing up and telling the guards on duty, "Beat it, we're taking over." So they responded "OK" and just walked away. There was not a shot fired. This version is merely puffery from Eisenstein''s histrionic melodrama on the subject. Lenin didn't get rid of the Tsar, Lenin got rid of the guy who got rid of the Tsar. The Bolsheviks had their 25,000 rifles because Kerensky didn't understand how dangerous they were, and had given them the 25,000 allotment a few months earlier.
Who are you kidding lol? there's enough pictures of the storming of the palace. It's not like the Bolsheviks were a random bunch of guys deciding to one day oust the Provisional govt, they were quite loaded, not just with artillery but manpower. And though it was Kerensky's govt & he'd armed the Bols during the Kornilov affair as he was scared, he was trying to keep Russia in WW1 and would've taken them into severe attrition so they preferred to leave.
@@TylerDurden-gl4qn how much assistance from the West, Lenin and Trotsky is of interest to me and maybe others.. if someone could point me in a direction. So far, am relying on Anthony Sutton for ww2 period but not much stuff during ww1 period. .. idk...

You lost me at patriarchy
Why?
@40:30 when the media moves in to take down something they are no longer "undercover reporters" they have an agenda, just like they have today
it was at this moment the UK i grew up in (Yorkshire) changed for the worse, people may have had a decade of cheap goods but all this created was the destruction of community, made many rich southerners, raise house prices through the roof to unaffordable and a renters market and in the end it destroyed our country, If you asked all these Londoners in this video "was it worth it" they would probably have a different opinion today, London is now too expensive and changed into a city of crime, slave labour behind locked doors, more money leaves than come sin with most never paying tax into the system due to corruption and illegal trade in drugs etc and knock off goods, foreigners today run our country into the dirt, since they sold out to the eu. Then because we got out of the EU they wont allow trade within EU because they are pissed they cant take the funding from us for their handing out to poorer eu member countries and skim of their slice, this was about government forcing closure of jobs and entire communities to be dependent on government handouts, a generation of drug addicts with no hope because the schools didnt train them to be workers of this country with the apprentice training after school it all died. It wasnt the same conservative vs labour back then like today, now its just one corrupt government, we havent even elected what our last few prime ministers. raise minimum wages and create jobs they said yet flooded our country with cheap labour and sold it all to China the companies moved to take advantage of poorer EU countries low wages and property prices. @23:10 the police, the government and unions, eu are all in the same scam today, to keep the working man down. The whole government is a corrupt undemocratic system NOW. IT ISNT ABOUT THE MONEY if you lose your families & communities, we losing our NHS maybe a decade left THAT WE PAID INTO AND OUR PARENTS ETC. stolen by people who never paid in or born here, we are sold out to a government that wants us to "OWN NOTHING AND BE HAPPY" SOLD US OUT. No help or money was given to the miners on strike, its all trickery a corrupt system. I see it all happening in America the same play today, Trump is your best option to protect your country and way of life.
Great to see that anarchists are at last being honest about their nihilism lmao
The pits were shut when they were purely for political reasons; to smash the trade union movement in order to make way for neoliberalism. To say otherwise is delusional. Of course by now (space year 2023) the mining industry would have at the very least driven to a crawl, but at least there would have (in theory at least) been a decade or 2 to prepare the big mining communities of south yorkshire and south wales to retrain and devlop new industries. This lack of consideration is what further proves my main point.

Nice job stealing this and giving no credit

That guy is spot-on
In our current culture, we believed our bricks could build us a utopia. For 10,000 years we believed it, and time after time it's cultivated and collapsed in our cultural vision of the 'struggle.' We have forgotten our relationship with the brick. We believed it to be Gaia's gift to humanity, thinking it was to aid us in reaching total rule over her. We sought to create our own eden, despite the sanctimonious bias of such a halcyon paradox. Every religion and political ideology, east and west, share the same cultural spooks that stray into a cyclic need of unending prosperity (for a certain group) or salvation (to leave "current culture" and create our perceived utopias in the heavens.) In truth, we are the brick, and the brick is us... but it's not _just_ us. The brick is the beetle, the bird, the lichen, it's you, it's me, it's the sun, it's our planet, it's the universe. This is because nothing in our world (the only one that really matters) lives in isolation from the each other. Not one thing is particularly favored by the "gods" over another; the current myth would have you think otherwise. Looking through the present lense, we've observed the various dynamic tensions that are expressed in the community of life, but at the same time we've overlooked our involvement in this community (as we've been part of it for millions of years.) With it, we live and die; Without it, we cease to exist. The weltanshauung of the brick has a vision, this vision perceives in us a godhead that rivals our current myth of struggle. Soon it will be known to us as the antichrist, and eventually, it will return to *the law of life.* (if you can guess one of the authors these ideas come from, I'll give you a digital hug!)
The ironic thing about all this was the life expectancy of a miner was around 54 years…..in other words no pension for the government to pay. If the Tories had have subsidised the coal fields for another 10/15 years and phased them out, the taxpayers would eventually save millions and the economy today would be much healthier. And the whole terrible occurrence and horrendous brutality brought upon the people by the Tories could have been avoided. Another crucial element to this was that the Unions up to this were more or less undefeated, and thought they were invincible, so that explains why no thought was given to any other angles, and ultimate shame on those Nottingham scabs…
We need industrial democracy in this country. Not everyday of course, if the management make good decisions that's fine, but it gives British workers the chance to shape policy in their favour. House of Lords would be a good starting point where this could happen. But yes, Scargill was a gift to Thatcher, an open Marxist who wanted a revolution when the USSR was the enemy.
