Patrick Henry Dam to Indian Springs, November 7, 2021

Tennessee has had a beautiful fall this year, this is a flight from over Patrick Henry Dam to Indian Springs airport. Originally this video had a sound track, but UA-cam said that the soundtrack was copyrighted and that entitled them to put ads in my video - nope! So redid the video w/o music. Enjoy the sound of the engine & prop... sigh...
Old Poops basic bank & slope mower
Переглядів 1,1 млн4 роки тому
The church driveway runs up a hill and has a steep bank on one side. We needed an easy, safe way to mow it, and started this project 3 years ago. After a bit of trial and fixing what broke, we now have a simple and reliable system. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: 1) WHY THE CHAINS? After I finish mowing the bank, I remove the bank mower and use the Craftsman to mow up and down several steep slopes ...

Dec 26 377 test flight
Переглядів 4015 років тому
The day after Christmas, temperature 63 degrees. Replaced the Rotax 277 with a low time 377, CDI ignition, test flight Dec 26, 2019. Needs some fiddling with the jets, but otherwise runs and flies really nice.

Did you have to modify the governor or anything
No, I left it just as it was. I did have to replace the governor spring, but I tried to keep it the same. Just turned the engine 90 degrees on the base so the head goes up the slope, and tilted the gas tank a bit.
@Ichibanoldpoop yeah thats a good ideal on pointing head uphill so the oil dipper on connecting rod still splashes in oil. Going be trying to make mine a hillside mower soon
Smooth, smooth!
That’s awesome
Make an overhead cage with a pivot mount at the top, then u could turn around
Oh the great lengths people are willing to go, to escape the haunting horrors of long grass, colorful weeds and wild flowers.
Simple but effective very good use of the brain 😊😊
Were those tire chains? Yup.
Just curious have you ever flown without the wing gap seal? I just got a twinstar mark 2 and haven’t flown it yet but it did not come with the wing gap seals and I’m worried this may be an issue if so do you think I could fabricate my own somehow?
It is not a good idea to omit the gap seal, and it is not hard to build one. Send me an email address and I'll send you the plans for the gap seal.
@@IchibanoldpoopI went ahead and decided to fly it for the first time I’m wondering do you find that the ailerons surfaces feel kind of sloppy and unresponsive? I mean they work but it’s no where’s near as snappy as I would’ve expect it to be feels rather dangerous almost
@@danko1764 That is most unusual. Typically the Kolb has light elevators, normal rudder and heavy ailerons because there is a lot of aileron throw. I even reduced the amount of movement on my MKIII ailerons just to lighten the aileron feel a bit. You do have the gap seal on, right?
@@Ichibanoldpoop wing gap seal or aileron gap seal? Because I’ve got neither I bought the plane without a wing gap seal mainly though.
@@danko1764 You need the wing gap seal. I would consider the airplane unairworthy without one. That is why your ailerons are unresponsive. A number of years ago a friend of mine was flying his Firestar, it had a fabric gap seal that came loose on takeoff and he just barely managed to get it down in one piece and he was an excellent pilot. I have the full plans for the fuselage gap seal, I cannot post them on line because they are copyrighted, but I can send them to you, and you can make it in a day or two with some thin aluminum sheet and some lightweight aluminum angle from Home Depot.
Tipical american that can't move is big ass.
Or just hang a butt cheek.
Cows work as well. Plus, you get beef. You do have to deal with manure and flies though.
Impressive engineering.
Awesome 😎....
Better solution. Just forget about mowing. What is wrong with the grown grass on slope? No one even walks there…
I’m sure this works great and all, but there has to be something much cheaper and more effective than that. Haha
Great idea. 🙄
Why the snow chains?
Look up 3 inches above this line and read the letters in bold.
I think you mean "Old Pops!" An "Old Poop" is a constipated bowel movement or one that's been sitting around stinking the place up for way too long, but maybe that's what you meant!
Nope. Many years ago when Microsoft was still doing DOS, a dear friend was teaching the wife & I basic computing. She had to come up with something to relate to what she was doing, (can't remember) and she gave the wife & I the nickname "2 Old Poops". Works for me. We even named the airplane after us: oh2fly.net/oldpoops/kolb.html
@@Ichibanoldpoop ok, but that's still kinda weird! She was basicly just calling you the PG-13 version of two old sh its!
He's from the future
you clearly have too much time on your hands
Brilliant.
nice job.
This is absolute Laziness! Just get your trimmer and get the grass trimmed. Wow! People are giving this a thumbs up? The time wasted on this is unbelievable! 5 min to trim the top of this hill with a trimmer!
Tell me this again when you are 78 years old, and you have arthritis and back problems. <Grin> 5 minutes? The church was paying a local mowing service $135 every two weeks to weed eat this hill with string trimmers. Seemed to me that this was not the best use of the Lord's money, so I got creative. This is the 4th season that I have been using this rig and it was paid off after the 1st season. But - I realize you can't please everybody. Have a nice day.
I’ll just get an electric robot mower.
Love the snow chains.
That is a good idea! Except, my dad mowed a hill in front of house and buried up , I don’t remember how many mowers. A tilted mower will not oil properly!
Nice job. 👍🏽👍🏽 I love the belly wheels, I’m going to try this on my set up. The wheels digging in and the stress that creates has always been a problem for me.
Nice!
Smart
Great idea but wouldn't the poles need to be telescopic in order to bring the 'uphill mower" closer to the 'tug' as it progresses downhill and closer to the road? Otherwise it seems that you would have to drive the tug further into the road and eventually even on the other side... or is this okay because its your own driveway? :) Very cool idea! Thanks for sharing.
You are exactly right. The first season when this was still a work in progress, I had one set of booms about 6' long, and I did the lower half of it from the bottom up, and a second set that were about 3' long to do the top half from the top down. Worked, but a hassle to swap them out. Then I made up the current booms which are long enough for me to get the mower up to the top lip of the bank. One problem is that as the booms get longer, they can overwhelm the tugs ability to leverage that much mass at a further distance, and if you are not careful, you can get yourself into a situation that is difficult to get out of.
That's what I needed to cut really steep banks. Usually with my particular rider, I would just climb off it while in gear still moving and just walk beside it cutting the bank i.e, banks a little less steep than yours, because it would be too top heavy with me on it. My first thought with your set up was the long polls would flex too much, but I didn't see that happening.
Keep Up Your OUTSTANDING Videos Miss Cheers 👌👌😇😇👍👍🍻🍻
Now that's smort!
good idea, i need this! Pushing it by hand sucks!
Hey, Emma here from Supercar Blondie. We would love to speak to you about sharing footage of your car on our socials with full credit back to you! Would you be interested?
Sure, if you want to.
lol , a smart man , his reasoning is real talent
Brilliant...
so the booms are not length adjustable you have to move further in and out on road to mow different heights of bank?
Yes.
I know this is an old video, but I’m still trying to figure out why he has chains on dry pavement.
Because like it says in the FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS part of the intro: at the bottom of the hill by the sidewalk, there is a REALLY STEEP section and w/o the chains, the mower will slide out of control.
Old poops?
Inside running family gag. We even named the airplane after us: oh2fly.net/oldpoops/kolb.html
hwheels
Use your riding mower !!!
I like the chains, ready for snow or go
Emt conduit is galvanized so be careful welding it guys.
Don't forget you need your basic aluminum mig welder spool gun and aluminum gas bottle for your Miller wire feed to weld the aluminum bracketry and booms.
I did notice he used aluminum it looked like. That being said, there's nothing he did with aluminum that I couldn't do with steel, and using a regular arc welder and welding rods is pretty cheap.
Fabulous
very clever idea.
Love this idea. When I was a kid, living in Ohio, we had a small 4acre farm. The front lawn was about 1 acre. Before we got a bigger riding mower, my dad rigged a 20" walk behind mower offset behind, on each side, so it cut an 80" path each trip. Sure got a lot of folks slowing down as they drove by.
What do I do if the hill goes uphill only?
that's how your body goes to shit when you get older ,he should be using the push mower for exercise and stretching .the easy way is for lazy people.
