Traditional Irish Rice pudding recipe
More coddle nonsense , pork sausages streaky bacon onions carrots red lentils , no flower no parsley and no bullshit😊
Haha, lentils, inner city Dubs will love that one 🤣
The no Guinness version a plus.
This isnt a coddle its a brown stew....coddle is a white stew no frying or browning of any kind...once ingredients are chopped throw in pot cover with water bring to a simmer and coddle it on low heat akin to poaching...
@@risinggael1685 mine is better ;)
@TheIrishChef still not a coddle though 😜 I'm not saying it's bad it's something I'm gonna try at some stage...but I think cooking channels should be doing the coddle proper first and then this alternative version...coddle is a white stew...the version you showed is essentially a brown stew.... I literally went through every "coddle" youtube video I could find and and about 5% are actual coddles...I think its just respect to the culture and tradition to actually show the original recipe before show the alternative...its only snowflakes that can't handle the pale cooked sausage look in a true coddle 😂 but tastes so good plus whole rashers...all simmered from raw to cooked ya KNOW coddling it lol not this rapid fry nonsense 🤔
@@risinggael1685 ah it will always divide people. I have seen about 8 comments all telling me what the real coddle recipe was, all different recipes!
When did you add the sugar
Meet did not brown🙈 All the best! cheers.
teflon? 😢
Is that Mel Gibson!?

Looks like an Irish stew :) Come to think of it, what is the difference between a Coddle and Stew?
What's all the noise about?
@@ptwotwo2055........ Exactly
Thanks for making it so easy to understand. I've been brewing for years and have never seen anyone explain it this simply.
@sandrasmith7127 you are very welcome ome Sandra . Glad it helped
Sorry you lost me when you added butter to the Pan, dust a pan with a little flour when it turns brown pan is ready then cook your farls, I'm old we didn't waste our butter ☘️👍
Fish terrines are excellent with a homemade horseradish sauce .
What's the difference between Irish potato salad,Champs and Colcannon?
Well champ and Colcanmon are both hot side dishes . Also the potato salad contains mayo which the others don't. And colcannon contains cabbage and not spring onions .
You should not say on the post traditional coddle because it is not Dubliners never use chicken stock or fry the ingredients
Have a read through all the comments .... times are a changing but yeah probably not traditional in its original sense of the word
Tried others and this is the Best scone recipe ever, soft and not too sweet, perfectly balanced 😊 Thank you :)
Great recipe - I didn't have soda or buttermilk but substituted 3x the amount of soda for baking powder, and a mix of yoghurt and milk for the buttermilk. Thank you!
Sounds great!
This looks delicious! Thank you for posting this recipe.
My pleasure 😊
👍
Made this. Its delicious. Thankyou. Im in South Africa and my son is in County Wicklow.
Glad you enjoyed !
nice 👍
Awfully sausages in Jackeen coddle???!!????!!??
Just made this, with some modifications. Cajun style Andouille sausage, 1 1/2 onions, half teaspoon of chili sauce with garlic, instead of carrots I used half a bag of coleslaw which has shredded carrots in it. Potatoes, bacon and a small cut up seared lambchop. Came out great and finished with strawberries & brown sugar for dessert.
Looks nice but not a traditional coddle you dont put carrots and definitely dont brown the meat. Looks nice though and just a different version
Coddle recipes are like arsesl in Dublin ... everyone has one
Great recipe, thanks!
I’m making this today! ❤ 🇮🇪 🇺🇸
I guess my Irish ancestors either died from malnutrition or a heart attack from high blood pressure and clogged arteries- but it looks really good.
C'EST BIEN DE TRADUIR EN FRANÇAIS, MAIS CA VA TROP VITE.
Merci )
I need united states measurments not grams its hard for me to follow please help ❤❤
Write down the grams and Google grams to ounces conversion. Simple )
Omg it has to be A of course 😂😂😁
Delicious
Thank you 😋
Thank you so much got lamb today it looks delouse

Cheers man.medium heat on the pan and is milk OK if no buttermilk?

You can add vinegar to full cream milk. 1 tablespoon per cup.
Thank you! Here’s the result
Great job!
Hey Luke & Jake Hope You Had A Great Time In Disneyland Love Finn
I've recently been looking for a good recipe for this stew and yours is the first I've come across by an Irishman who clearly knows how to do it properly. I can now happily ignore all the ridiculous American recipes that flood UA-cam 😣👍
Very kind of you to say )
D. And thanks for the tip. I make farls almost every day.
I'm from England but have many Irish relatives on my mum and dad's side. I was brought up on this dish and it's one of my favourite meals to eat, so easy to make and very tasty
It's my first time hearing of boxty, but they sure look tasty and I'll give the recipe a try. But being Canadian, I won't be able to resist giving them a drizzle of maple syrup on top.
I dont understand putting maple on a potato but I hope ye enjoy regardless 😅😂
Yes, I realize St. Boxty is probably spinning in his grave, but it all comes down to the versatility of the potato. I’ve tried boxty with a ladle of chili on top for that chili fries flavour, as well as with curds or melted cheese and gravy as a modified poutine dish. I’ve also wondered how boxty would taste with a mixture of melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon on top-maybe with a splash of rum, too-but I haven’t tried it yet. One thing I’ve learned not to do is leave a big bowl of raw boxty mix in the fridge overnight, otherwise it’ll look like asphalt in the morning. @@Lyran7
Try an egg, never mind sweetening it😂
Perfect winter comfort food…. Brings back great memories of my childhood where this fish was a weekly staple… thanks for sharing
Would it be better with browned off sausages ???
It's a highly contentious issue ) personal preference
The sausages look raw in this video. With colour it just looks more appetising to me and also gives more contrast.
@HdHd-hp6qz In old school coddle they would never ever brownthem off but I sealed them . Also thats how a coddle looks , it's a no frills dish . A sausage doesent have to be brown to be cooked . It simply has to reach temperature.
Hi! Loved your video and we tried your recipe. First time the bacon seemed over cooked for us. I wonder if I have done something wrong. Can you confirm the slow cooker is on high the whole cooking time? I thought I heard you mention low at one point around the potato time?
Hi , yes on the low setting
@@TheIrishChefhi sorry more questions!! Again love this recipe and we have tried a lots of times. Watching again I want to confirm cook time. 3 min mark you say 6 hours, 1:11 min mark you show 5 hours. Also do we start on high and then switch to low? Or low the whole time?
Low )
Awesome, thank you! :)
You are welcome
As a wein in the 60's my Aunt Bella made soda farls over the open turf fire on a griddle....she'd dish them up with homemade butter and blueberry jam...bliss !!!
Love it !
What happened to the Black Pudding and Donnelly's sausages. ?
That's personal preference )
Im wondering how the grated raw potato cooks inside the patty with only a few minutes of heat per side. Is it supposed to remain rather raw and crunchy inside?
It cooks quite well and the heat is enough to get it to where it needs to be , there us some texture there .
These are the best scones ever, thank you chef.
These seem similar to Llapingachos from Ecuador.
I'm going to look those up !
We are doing a cook a traditional meal from your family night in a few weeks. There will be Italians, Thai, Danes, Aussies, all cooking elaborate dishes from their home land and then there will be me with my Nana’s coddle 5 simple ingredients full of flavour and a winning dish 😋 (I’ll also do a Soda bread otherwise my Nan and Mammy would come back to haunt me 😂)
Sounds excellent! If you need any tips , I'm happy to help )
I always thought about adding garlic to the recipe somehow
I mean it wouldn't be traditional then entirely up to you , roast garlic or even black garlic might be interesting.
