Poet Anne Becker: The Sleeping Beauty Sonata in C minor

Poet Anne Becker: The Sleeping Beauty Sonata in C minor. With Carl Banner, piano. Live at BannerArts, August 24, 2024. In language sensuous and earthy, in "The Sleeping Beauty Sonata in C minor," Anne Becker constructs a woman's hero journey, conflating the stories of Sleeping Beauty and Persephone. As Grace Paley says, 'she tells the story of the stories,' which is, of course, poetry.

Love this, thanks
Dear Bonnie Thron, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to inquire if it would be possible for you to provide me with the sheet music for the Cello Trio by Robert Kahn. Thank you in advance for your assistance. Best regards, Gilbert Anderson From Dominican Republic

I first heard this piece by Milaud in the late 1970s. I've loved all these years. My go to piece to achieve Calm and Tranquil. To me , for me it's the best music Milhaud wrote. My blood pressure agrees.

Just horrible.
Beautiful
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🌹
Covid vibes hehe
Beautiful!
My beautiful Aunt Dine Watson. Heart provoking and socially conscious. Proud to be her niece❤
So good.
Wheres the rest?
Thank you! 06:11 V.
a beautiful performance, to feed "life's wild thirst."
Ecoutez donc des œuvres enfouies par simple idiotie dans l'oubli ! Le génie finit toujours par triompher avec le temps et l'aide du temps lui-même.
The Beethoven .... Such great energy and lyricism. Reminds me I am alive - and how very alive I am!!
Zu Unrecht in Vergessenheit geraten....!
Gee, we must be doing something right - the chamber music police are after us already!
Badly needs more attention to Schubert’s dynamic markings. Especially the piano and pianissimos. Ensemble is often poor. Piano is too loud when it is not the lead, throughout. This is a beautiful piece, to be enjoyed in as relaxed a way as possible, not hammered out.
Emma and Carl: There should be dozens of comments by now singing the praises of your performance of this challenging and passionate work. You both communicated well with each other, and I especially enjoyed watching and listening to your (Emma) seamless position shifts.
Beautiful and so nourishing to the soul.
Thank you, Rain! I am so glad you feel that way!
Bravo
Thanks!
Do you have lyrics? (Because I am fascinated by the translations of Czech songs and poetry into English; for example, I have found an English translation of Erben's collection of ballads 'Kytice'/'The Bouquet'. Unfortunately, from this recording I was only able to catch every other word.)
Lovely.
The sound is fabulous! But it was even better in person!
Thank you!
these are wonderful!
Thank you, Shaun!
outstanding!
Thank you!
Wow! Wonderfully intense.
This is so beautiful I had to listen again.😊
Thank you, Rain! Yes, it is so beautiful.
Powerful stuff. The Czech composer Viktor Kalabis and his wife Zuzana Ruzickova, a well-known harpsichordist, both suffered greatly, first at the hands of the Nazis, then of the Communist Party This is what I'm hearing in his music.
Yes, exactly right. Thank you, Howard!
Great stuff -- thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow - what a treat!
Wonderful performance -- very uplifting
Many thanks!
Very nice! Thank you
Missed the livestream but caught the recording. Thanks!
Thank you, Howard!
Great music -- many thanks -- and perfect for my birthday!
Happy birthday, Marjorie! Glad you tuned in.
Poet Maritza Rivera sent this lovely poem in response to the event: Quartet (inspired by Washington Musica Viva) How do I heal my heart from the hollow sound that silence makes? It's music that fills and feeds the soul when all else feels hopeless. Home is where music, art and poetry abide and overflow. Where the effect of sound, sight and words converge. They echo and vibrate and wake up the senses that were too long asleep and quarantined. Maritza Rivera 12/19/20
Thank you- and Bravo!
Thanks, Carl!
Cinque Danses made me smile and giggle! Especially when the scooter or whatever drove by. Perfect Steam Punk. Thank you!
That was wow!
Thanks again for inviting me to read at Washington Musica Viva! It's always an honor and pleasure for me to share my work and the work of others in the name of poetry! In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, I celebrated the poetry of two of my favorite Cuban and Puerto Rican poets, Richard Blanco and Martín Espada. Cuba and Puerto Rico are said to be: two wings of the same bird with one heart, as are Richard and Martín to me! I read Killing Mark by Richard Blanco from his book, Looking for the Gulf Motel and En la Calle San Sebastian by Martín Espada from his book, Alabanza which includes one of the best 911 poems ever written, Alabanza: In Praise of Local 100. Martín is my vote for the next Poet Laureate of the US! 🦋 In closing and in honor of Indigenous Peoples' Day, I read, I Give You Back by Joy Harjo, current Poet Laureate of the US. You can read and hear more of their work on: www.poetryfoundation.org
Thank you. You deliver a powerful message.
