The 'Cruelty Man' in Ireland
This man told The Treasure Vox how 'The Cruelty Man' paid a visit to his 2-bedroom house where his grandmother was rearing him and his brother, along with her own family, after their mother died of TB. She had to wait for weeks for the report from 'The Cruelty Man' who decided if her grandsons were being looked after properly or if they were to be sent to an industrial school.
These stories are a fascinating but desperately sad insight into our recent social history, told by our parents and grandparents who lived through it.
