I have seen Freddie Hubbard performing live a few times and even had the pleasure to play for him and shake his hand. I still remember that my mind was blown everytime I saw and heard him play. I got so much energy from these concerts and an overload of ideas to practice at home. Man, he is one of my all time hero's.

My way of holding the trumpet has evolved just as yours did. I even had some tell me to bend the fingers on the R hand and not keep them straight. The reason I hold the horn with the left hand with room for “a ball” is because for me it made manipulation of the third valve slide much easier to do without disturbing everything else. Never considered the tension but makes sense now that you mentioned it. Sweet! Thank you.😊 Also, it seems to me that putting the pinky finger in the pinky loop when keeping the R hand fingers more straight is more natural.
