My dog does this. Its actually something hes hearing not seeing. He barking at you to look cause he thinks there's danger but cant see either. Very sensitive noses and ears. Usually its a boiler kicking on or an animal outsode that we dont recognise or smell. Great dogs for alerting but i do totally understand the fear of "what are you barking at doggy?" And they cant tell you whats spooked them sm.

Maybe he needs to go outside?
