The Road Less Traveled with Alex McCulloch
Is the first-generation Honda Insight one of the greatest cars ever made?
The first-generation (G1) Honda Insight was one of the greatest cars ever made. Built in the same factory, and derived from some of the same technology as the original Acura NSX, it was the first mass-produced hybrid released to the U.S. market. Available with a proper manual gearbox, and boasting the best drag coefficient and highest fuel economy of any production car for over a decade, the mass market misunderstood the G1 Insight-it was too much too soon.
Our mission in this episode is to unravel the story of the G1 Insight by subjecting its revolutionary design to a daunting test. We embark on a quest to locate Prometheus, the world's oldest tree, with just one tank of gas. Once the oldest known tree in the world, Prometheus met a tragic fate in 1964 when it was felled by graduate student Donald Currey. Our journey to find it would require us to cover nearly 700 miles on just over 10 gallons of gas, a true testament to the G1 Insight’s capabilities. Join us on this captivating adventure as we weave together the narratives of the G1 Insight and the Prometheus tree.

Making me miss my kei truck but it’s okay I’ve been working coloring one car after another after selling my truck
We have a suzuki carry (aka Multicab here in the Philippines). It needs repair though. However, I am very excited to drive it again. Thanks for this content❤
I had a 95 Mitsi Delica 2.8TD, SWB, low roof, when I was living in Australia. Absolutely loved that vehicle.
what did you do to make sure it does not overheat?
For altitude a small turbo would help.
I seriously considered getting a 996 4 for this application- Until the GR Corolla was announced. IMO the GRC is a great fast car & slightly more practical for a road trips with a real sleeping platform. FYI - I traveled a with my 993 & 07 GT3 so I now know more of what I like and want👍 I have yet to drive the GRC in light snow - but can't wait. I swapped the Pilot sports with some Ultra high performance all season tires (Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 Plus) in a talerl & narrower configuration than stock. With these I will have a little better chance of negotiating light snow (which was my intention-:)
Shocking this video has so little plays compared to the others, such a well done video, absolutely beautiful.
Amazing views and also really cool to see people go camping with a car like this.
Great video
I'm gonna need you to engine swap it with a Busa engine, plz. thx
here in Southeast asia we had a few kei cars growing up. my dad bought a mitsubishi colt '84 before i was born and it was basically luxury :D. our last kei van was a suzuki carry 2005 . before we move on to a bigger SUV.
Hello, a warm greeting from the province of Pontassieve in Florence, Italy. I am the respected owner of a Suzuki Jimmy 4x4 with a m13a 1.3 LT petrol engine, petrol, completely original, year 2001. In fact, it is completely original, which I often drive on country and forest roads, and with the appropriate mud tires it will do well too. The Suzuki Jimmy 4x4, although completely original, I see it in its natural habitat when I approach country agricultural and forest roads that are used by logging companies to transport wood in logging trucks.
In the Philippines, we call it suzuki multicabs. I bought one that was converted into full body or van (extended version about 24 inches longer than the original) like mitsubishi L300 here. I have driven it from Manila through Sierra Madre mountain ranges in northern luzon going to Dinapigue, province of Isabela, where most of the roads are still logging area roads and its condition is terrible. I crossed 3 rivers without bridges and yet arrive to our destination and back to manila without a single problem. It was a continuous 36 hour drive back and forth with 1 one hour rest at our arrival point in Dinapigue nickel mine. Important note: that suzuki mini van is only 2 wheel drive with engine displacement of 650 cc, 3 cyclinders and there was 9 adult passengers with me at that time. Testament to the quality and toughness of Suzuki mini trucks!
sick rig
Those roads are highways. You make them out to be hard. They are not.
For these kinds of things a small turbo would be a great addition. You don't need to pump 30psi in that little engine, just enough for it to breathe at these higher altitudes.
THESE LITTLE TRUCKS ARE AMAZING
and some genius of law makers branded this mini truck dangerous?
Wow, one of those really special videos that comes up in the recommended every so often. Awesome story through and through
this is becoming the mainstream vehicle here in the philippines
bro it can survive, we even loaded ours with vegetables 3x the maximum capacity and rode it along dangerous mountain roads here in the philippines. ours were modified with lift up kits and big fat tires. F6A engine is underrated. take good care of it. it will last a lifetime. great video!
Still being sold in Pakistan brand new, all parts available cheaply locally, lots of options available, driven in mountain areas and used to haul everthing.
Should have stopped to adjust the carb
I wish i had money for stuff like this, i can barely even afford new tires for my daily
I want one but with a Honda Gold Wing motor
As someone that has had a number of suzuki sierra / jimny's here in australia. When you let the tires down you need to go way down beyond where you would with a normal 2 tonne 4x4. this is even more important when you have larger than stock tyres or Light Truck tyres. I used to run under 20psi on the road with 31" tyres so offroad was beadlock territory for a normal 4x4 this was on a 1998 suzuki sierra
Honestly I think kei trucks are better than Utvs in a few ways because of the fact that they are cheaper have more bed space and are street legal UTVs are definitely good for off-roading but that’s really the only thing you can use them for or doing some simple hauling because some of them have small truck beds kei trucks on the other hand have many other uses like hauling stuff using one as a pop up shop I’ve seen freezer kei trucks that have basically a giant freezer on the back etc
Would’ve been cool if you just drove it to the location rather than it being towed
These videos are awesome. Glen's narrative and story telling is 👍
The truck is powerful
Yes ,why not
Always loved seeing your shit on craigslist. Finest examples of legendary vehicles... Might have to make one of them a reality for myself sometime!
Can you put a Lutron carb on it ?
I'm a fan of these little utility trucks that punch way above their weight class. I'd love to get one, but at 6'2", 275 lbs, I doubt I'd fit comfortably enough to be able to drive one for very long. I've owned all makes of American and foreign cars. At this point I will never buy another vehicle that wasn't made in Japan in the 1980s or 90s. I'm in the search now for a 1st generation 4Runner for offroading and a Lexus LS400 as a daily driver.
Yo! Is it okay if i borrow some clips of the car in the snow for a vid I will give credit via comment section you okay with that? Btw video is a short and it includes this car in it
Did you guys use an anamorphic lens for all this!?
Dream car of Pakistan city Rawalpindi .plz make a video in rawplinfu you can surprised to see modification
In Pakistan this known by the name of Suzuki pik up and Ravi. this mini loader is best smal pickup on karakorm high .American mountain are smal than pakistan
