New Stella Octa Sculpture
This video shows how to assemble my improved stella octagula sculpture. I think it looks prettier than the old version.

Genus-2 stuffed toy
Переглядів 3966 місяців тому
In this video, we make a stuffed genus-2 torus using two linked identical surfaces bound by the same trefoil knot. The wire used in the video is definitely optional. I only use it to smooth the boundary. If you make it for a baby, you should leave it out. 0:00 - The first half 18:00 - The second half 37:59 - Join the boundary Audio credit: Drone in D by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creativ...
How two seemingly different chain graphs are actually the same
Переглядів 1726 місяців тому
In this video, we investigate how a graph with two vertices and three edges, 2 Z-twists, and 1 S-twist (2Z1S), is actually a punctured torus. Saddle trefoil part three

This is part three of the saddle trefoil project. In this part, we finish the boundary with wire to support the form. Saddle trefoil part two
Переглядів 5986 місяців тому
This is part two of the saddle trefoil project. In this part, we crochet along the boundary of the chain graph to give the shape more volume. Detailed write-up is available in the Bridges 2024 proceedings. archive.bridgesmathart.org/2024/bridges2024-537.html
Saddle trefoil part one

This is part one of a project I call saddle trefoil, after Carlo H. Séquin. In this part, the chain graph is set up. Detailed write-up is available in the Bridges 2024 proceedings. archive.bridgesmathart.org/2024/bridges2024-537.html
Crocheting a simple Moebius strip HD version

This is a re-upload of my previous video on crocheting a Moebius strip. The video content is almost the same, except it's HD with subtitles.

This is part three of the Borromean rings project. In this part, we finish the boundary with supportive finishing lines.
Borromean-rings-bounded two-punctured Moebius strip - part two

This is part two of the Borromean rings project. In this part, we crochet two rounds along the edges of the foundation chain graph we made in part one.

This is part one of the Borromean rings project, where the foundation chains form the 1-skeleton of a tetrahedron.
Punctured torus bounded by trefoil knot part 4 - boundary

This is the final part of the trefoil knot project. In this step, we crochet along the boundary of the work with a different color and supportive material.
Punctured torus bounded by trefoil knot part 3 - round 2

This is part three of the trefoil knot project. In this step, we crochet along the boundary of the work, which is now quite easy to trace, using an outside-inside sequence three times. This step makes our project look better.
Punctured torus bounded by trefoil knot part 2 - round 1

This is part two of the trefoil knot project. In this step, we crochet along the boundary of the chain graph and remove stitch markers whenever we encounter one. At the end of this step, there are no stitch markers left.

Question, how do you know how much wire you will need for your project when you start? Do you cut it to the right size and clamp it at the end? What is the name of the metal bit that you clamp?
Beautiful, I can only imagine how long this took to design
Hi, if I want to make this, are there any available templates, what to cut out? Although I am more of a crocheter, I would like to try and make this as well.
Hi, I'll upload the pattern somewhere online tomorrow. Will let you know. Although I used a laser cutter, a cricut will suffice to cut this pattern. Hand cutting is the last resort when no tools are available.
I updated the video info with the pattern link.
Thank you @@epimono!
According to your paper, the knitting sequence is (A-t, B-si, C-b, A-so, B-t, C-si, A-b, B-so, C-t, A-si, B-b, C-so)., and I would like to know what this sequence means and why we should knit in this order. I know you are busy, but please explain it to me~
Love this design :) I've made two and both have come out heart shape, and not symetrical (probably not the right word but you know what I mean). I'm sure I lay it out right, but I must be joining the chain wrong. I tired doing both chains in each pair facing the same way, but then when I do round two it doesn't switch to bump side at second join like yours does. It's difficult to make out how you're joining it, could you give more detail or a close up please? Help please.
Hi, thanks for watching and trying! Yes I think I understand what you meant. Have you tried reading the paper in the description? There are step-by-step pictures. I believe one of the three saddle joins is the cause. When the wrong set of diagonals in the knot crossing gets marked, it can cause a heart shape look. I made one on purpose here: instagram.com/p/Cv-Tl3MLj9l/ If the paper doesn't help, please let me know.
@@epimonoYes, The description and photos in that paper really helped. This one came out round, yeh! Thanks for your help. Will try another shape next, I'm hoping to make more complicated ones soon. Many thanks
@@Glenda-e4dghj Would you like to come share your work in our Topological Crochet discord server?
@@epimono Sounds good, do I need a invite link?
This is super helpful, thank you!
I just found a lovely person posting about this pattern on Mastodon. I'm so glad that I found this video through that. I definitely want to make that, so beautiful!
This is fantastic way to teach and learn topology. Thank you!
Thanks for these videos!!
