Why Are Elite Clue Scrolls The HARDEST Content in Runescape?

    The problem with this skill is simple, it's just RuneScape in RuneScape You take attack/ strength/defence/hp/magic/ranged they're the cool/core skills (lets face it, we all love combat in all games). Then you get prayers to boost your stats or give different effects. You then have smithing to create new swords and armour but you need ore and so you need mining, crafting for ranged/magic combat, to cast spells you need runes, so you need runecrafting and you need bows and arrows, so you need fletching and wood cutting. You receive damage while in combat, so you need to get that health back by eating, so fishing makes sense and unless you REALLY love sushi, you need to cook food and to cook, you need fire and to get fire you need to chop wood So all these systems feed back into one another but then you get to dungeoneering and it's "you know all those skills you've been doing for hundreds of hours? Well here is a new place to do them BUUUUUT if you do them in this new place you get dungeoneering experience AS WELL! "Ok and what does that unlock?" You get to carry on doing those EXACT same skills but with a different cosmetic skin every 10 floors ... for 120 floors. Is there any other benefit? Yeah, you get tokens you can spend to unlock this amazing quality of life stuff you can only get through this skill. "thanks a bunch ..." If dungeoneering was taken out completely, the game wouldn't change .. it's a nothing skill. The items it brought along are great, I love my gold accumulator but the actual skill isn't a skill

    1:10 "this minigame- i mean, skill" no you aren't wrong. It was always a minigame. It never got implemented anywhere but the one area (at least, as far as i remember, but now i hear they tried doing that... too little, too late) and in the one area you did the same shit over and over to get tokens to exchange for rewards. Minigame confirmed. Also broke the economy of existing items in the game rather than offering competetive easy to obtain alternatives that weren't best in slot. By overriding literally everything for best in slot, it became mandatory minigame meta and i hated it. Eoc sealed the deal, i quit then.

    I have an IRL buddy who I used to look up to his acc. I remember having my first 99 (WC), and seeing how many 99s, he had and just thinking about how col it would be to have an ACC as good as his. Ill never forget the last time he logged in. He hit 99 RC less than 8 hours before Runespan was announced. He instantly quit the game. Came back 15 years later for like a week and dropped it again. Also, Looks like Jagex actually agrees with you, saying 120s are basically the new 99s. So, unsure if you've been around or not, but they are currently planning on increasing all skills to 120 over time now.

      @@johnmclawson3982 his words were that he completed a task that took a very significant amount of time and effort, and was rewarded with the cape, and then it immediately lost value, as it was no longer evident that that person put in that effort. I may not agree with it, but that's not a rare sentiment with the game at all. "Devaluing accomplishments" has been one of the most repeated statement since the introduction of AFK methods and TH.

  • @aKindred

    Devaluing achievments is a terrible point, you should get an achievement for yourself not for others Runescape is a single-player MMO, most people don't talk at all even while active Afk skills are why most of the player base likes rs3 in the first place, I for example like that I have the option to afk something while working and when I can play I'll boss/active train what I want

    I think there's 1 difference between these that will always keep pvm slightly harder than clues. That difference is the impact of a mistake. While someone doing 20 elites an hour is obviously more skillful than someone doing 1 telos kill at 100% or something, if you take 2 pkayers of roughly equal skill and out term in pvm vs clues, the pvm always has the abilitiy to set you back on mistakes and waste a bunch of time. Not thst clues cant waste time, its that the gamble for wasting time is higher in pvm. Mess up a slider, reset and you wasted a minute if youre slow. Mess up a rotation, you could cause yourself to flop or miss a dos check or die. It just carries a bit more risk, which is what im getting at, and this punishes mistakes harder. Imagine if messing up a stepnor tksing to long to conplete a ste destroyed the clue, that's similar to failing a kill. Now, I think they both have a super high skill ceiling, and thats basically as high as the player can make it go. It's virtually limitless. Clues also have 1 thing going for them that's more difficult and thats the lack of repetition. Bosses, for the most part, are the same or similar to each try, and the variance comes with varied adrenaline gains and how the hits land. Whereas clues are varied, so experience is perhaps more valued. Overall, players can find eays to make anything skillful when they really put their mind to it. Humans, in general, do this. Is folding a paper plane hard? No, of course not. Folding 200 in a minute would be and if those can also fly some distance thats insane. Or imagine if each plane was different and all flew, etc.I have no idea if paper planes have any form of competition like this, but it was just the first easy task that came to mind that could be made skillful. Overall, it is a great video. Clues are undoubtedly a form of skill expression to be compared with pvm, and both have an enormous if not unreachable ceiling.

    Good video. I agree with some of your points. I like that you mentioned that dungeoneering promotes active gameplay. Dare I say it is the game's most dynamic and engaging skill. I disagree that the balancing of the skill is the reason why people dislike it. For sure, it has to do with the gameplay issues, although I feel that only makes up a fraction of the reason. I would say the primary reason people do not like dungeoneering is because, again, you actually have to look at your monitor. We have become so conditioned from EVERY other skill in the game not to pay attention that when we are forced to, we dislike it. You could argue this is wrong because of bossing and clue scrolls requiring attention, but we never feel like we have to do those activities the same way we feel we must train a skill for max and comp. Second, the dungeoneering tokens are vital resources. They can buy reward enhancers, ring of vigour (as you noted), scrolls, pets, best-in-slot necklaces, etc. Yeah, some items are outdated and should be fixed, I agree. The resource dungeons are largely useless; however, teleporting to them with the skill cape is super useful.

    If a new update/training method makes you feel like your skillcape is worthless, then how valuable was your achievement in the first place? Being upset that other people can do something you did but now they have it easier sounds incredibly toxic -- like your parents belittling you for complaining because they had to walk to school through a blizzard uphill both ways. Isn't it enough that you did it for yourself? Everyone and their mother has a mining cape, or a max cape, or a completionist cape. It was never that special in the first place -- it's what it means to you specifically. The skill being easier to train shouldn't ruffle your feathers that much and if it does, that sounds like a You problem.

  • @Galimeer5
    @Galimeer5 2 місяці тому

    I prefer solo dungeoneering anyways. I get to go at my own pace, collect resources, really engage with the systems. The last time I joined a group for dungeoneering, everyone bolted from the starting room right away, blazed through rooms, ignoring monsters and resources alike. The boss was killed in 8 minutes and everyone was waiting for me to catch up so they could move on. Similar situation with Elite Dungeons but somehow worse. But the main reason I don't usually do my daily Dungeoneering challenges in Daemonheim is because it's so separated from the rest of the game. Empty your inventory, bank all your gear, dismiss your pet...all for something that'll take ~20 minutes if your taking your time and give fewer DG tokens than an entire Elite Dungeon in _fucking story mode_

    great video, i think the whole afk skilling thing is a miss on jagex's part though. just look at the verbage they use torwards afk skilling methods. they call it "social skilling" and i think they imagine stuff like the dung hole during the beach event where people hop in and bullshit around in chat, which is admitedly a lot of fun. but when the "social skilling spots" are on a random cliffside on anachronia (light animica) theres no insentive to stay active since there is basically a 0% chance of running into anyone who isn't also mining. its why so many people skill portables at the ge. they want to be near a highly visited area for the chance of a good conversation sparking.

    I would guess that the desire to AFK things comes from a lack of enjoyment from current available methods. The last times I REALLY had fun in this game is when I was trying to learn Solak or casually doing NM Zuk where I had just gotten the hang of a Caroming Gchain → Omni switch. Last time I trained a skill was necro afking Ravenous Ghouls with the weighted keybind exploit. Skilling can be really unfun because of the repetition. Artisan skills boil down to "Load preset. Hit action bar/skilling station. Press spacebar." Gathering skills, "Click plot. Wait. Repeat (if necessary)." Hunter isn't a huge offender of being AFKable, but it feels largely unenjoyable because so much of it is a monotonous "Reset trap. Wait." cycle. 9:23 BGH is a great example of what skilling could be more like. There's variety to it and no long periods between clicks, which is exactly why I liked doing Zuk runs. Support skills are kind of mixed. Traditional Dungeoneering doesn't feel great. Slayer is just some variety added to combat. Thieving is fully AFKable. Agility is an offender of inconsistency and lousy game flow. Old courses (Burthorpe, Gnome, Barbarian) have the camera follow along as you traverse obstacles. New courses (Anachronia, Het's Oasis, Prifddinas) feel like longer animations where your character moves a bit before having the camera awkwardly snap into place. None of it feels good because you're completely locked in until you get that xp drop. Hopping over mushrooms at Croesus feels better than doing an agility course because you can move the tick after you jump over it. The Prifddinas course almost had an idea with the "Velocity" meter, but the skill is literally agility; we should be able to click the next obstacle while already traversing one to queue it up, increasing engagement without increasing max xp rates or reducing clicks needed, not be given a free action a few times every few minutes, giving an awkward gap in interaction.

    Also helpful: meerkats, keybound familiar scrolls, keybound opening clues and all types of cluesteps, keybound teleports, knowing what are you're going to teleport to with globetrotter because the step takes too long, like desert or wilderness, knowing what you're going to skip with globetrotter because the step takes too long, (obviously also having all the hideyholes and globetrotter) and having the perfect inventory setup. 20 is still insane after all of that. Puzzleboxes and movement are the biggest hurdle

  • @sithisrants4154
    @sithisrants4154 3 місяці тому

    There's already an item called "Dungeoneering party simulator", which partially fixes the XP disparity between solo and team, but simply buffing solo XP rates would be a terrible mistake. What Jagex needs to do is amend the grouping system and modernize the movement, graphics, bosses, and puzzles within. It's really a skill that needs to be taken back to its MMO roots rather than cast into solo play like everything else. Dungeoneering is not the problem. It's a symptom of the modern MMO and RuneScape experience.

    • @trooololol
      @trooololol Місяць тому

      What you said about simulators is misleading. All it does is make a 1:1 floor for example into a 2:2 floor which used to be more xp but ever since 2022 with the iron group DG update, simulators essentially do nothing as going from 2:2 to 3:3 doesn't gain more xp. In fact it's possible that it decreases XP since different party sizes give different base XP amounts. I'm not entirely sure if the simulator changes the base XP for a 2:2 floor to that of a 3:3 floor but if it did, that would be a significant xp loss.

    Got my 99 in hunter pretty much only through bgh, I always neglected the skill and when it released I only did bgh as easly as could boost it. I actually enjoyed skilling this way. If I compare it with learning zuk for the cape stones, I hated every minute of it, bossing before the deathcost rework was so frustrating. Sadly since the release of animate dead every boss that was afkable with criptbloom and animate dead was worth nothing besides some of their big dropps. You would think tank mage would allow you to attempt harder bosses, but people just bought it to afk harder stuff.

    This video is old. And what I'm about to say might have been said already. But I've always hoped that Jaged would release... like.. "other" dungeoneering places? One of my favorite things about runescape is that you can find content of all levels lumped together all across the overworld. Like running from Catherby to Ardy you come across elder trees. Several quest locations. An archeological digsite that's like mid-ish level. And the player owned farm. Why aren't there other dungeons all around the world? I think dungeoneering would have felt a lot better if every milestone level, like every 15 or 20 levels. You unlock a new place in the world to dungeon dive in. Treat them as mini-raids to tackle. To that same end. How cool would it be if resource dungeons were small maybe like 4/4 grid randomised room dungeons that also gave you a bit of dungeoneering exp and gave you some of the dated resources. Allowing you to dungeon delve for resources instead of combat. Such a missed opportunity. The concept of a "dungeon delving skill" in a game as unique as runescape was absolutely perfect. But it flat-out misses the mark. I love what we got but I wish they had dared to experiment more.

    I do agree hard with this video, however there was 'AFK skilling', like you mentioned with Mining, however it was naturally slower than active Mining. There are a lot of those methods, and I think Old School RuneScape is doing a good job of having something like Shooting Star/Motherlode Mining for more 'AFK' experience, but giving the skilled players an active way of gaining better experience. Modern RuneScape I feel, is that people are 'privileged' with so much XP, that the AFK methods HAVE to be also fast. Also things like just mining ore and banking/dropping, versus 3-tick Mining.
