2022 Subaru BRZ - Buttonwillow 13CW 2.06.6 - 1/12/2025
Chipped a little bit of time off my PB, on an inferior tire setup (Pinched SX2 vs slightly less pinched RS4). Been to BW several times and I still don't feel like I have the hang of it...But i'm starting to get more comfortable. Off ramp, Riverside, Phil Hill are definitely my weakest points, need to work on it

OTL single exit resonated axle-back (2022+ Subaru BRZ, Toyota GR86) - sound clips

[HEADPHONES RECOMMENDED] edit 12/2 - verified this passes 90db sound limit at Laguna Seca 👍. Just a quick and boring video demonstrating what the Off The Line Performance resonated axleback sounds like. I recently picked this up for fairly cheap on clearance at ftspeed. It replaced a Yonaka catback, and they are both pretty mild sounding options. The OTL is just a smidge louder from the exterio...

So close to 2.05s I can taste it. There're a few areas I know I can make improvements on (T8-T12) so hopefully next time out I can string it together. Car felt really good here, really well balanced after adjusting rear sway bar to an 'in-between' setting (one side middle setting and the other side loosest setting). I think with a corner balance and fresh alignment it'll be perfect. Setup: Hank...

Still have a lot of work to do to whittle some time down. Was a really nice day out and I was able to get in 5 sessions before leaving at noon. Wish I could have stayed to get my money's worth but had other things to do. Most of the time I was playing around with setup and I think in this 2nd session the car felt great, maybe more on the oversteery side but easy to control. ....I say that but I...

Had this one sitting for a bit but never ended up uploading it. Palomar S.Grade might as well be Southern California's Irohazaka with all the hairpins it has. Dashcam audio only to get an idea of interior noise with Yonaka catback installed. Not the best audio but will work on getting some binaural stuff going for the future 👍.

Between new tires and these coils it felt like a pretty big jump in grip. Considering the experiences of other GR86/BRZ owners I may end up getting a rear sway bar or softer front springs if the car f...

If you keep up under around 3k rpms, how’s the cabin noise?
Sorry for the late reply, at 3k rpm cruising it's not very loud in cabin, at least not louder than the road/tire noise from my SX2s. Maybe a little louder on throttle uphill but not too bad. Android db app shows noise averages under 90db, mostly road&tire noise, any drone on throttle is in the lower registers (deep bass)
Congrats on the PB! That's super fast!
Thanks man, now I need to work on matching it in the other direction haha
Just bought this muffler because thing is loud as hell 😂😂😂
Awesome time! You probably can make up a tad bit more time by staying on throttle through turn one.
Hey Patrick! Thanks, and yeah I definitely get a little too sheepish around the higher speed turns, T1 and the left hander at the chicane especially. I need to get a little more consistent at skidpad too as I tend to end up overslowing more often than not
sounds good! just wondering why you switched out the yonaka?
Just wanted to try something different, I really liked the Yonaka and probably would have stuck with it had the OTL axleback not been on sale for nearly half off 😮. I like that it's super simple to switch back to stock with an axleback too, in case I need to for a db limited track day. Ended up selling the Yonaka and helping the new owner install it, so at least I know someone is still enjoying it 🙂
Does it do pops or snaps ? Thanks. I am considering to buy one of these. I like my car to have a OEM+ or gentleman feel.
does the exhaust still pop after shifts
At the track it does occasionally, on the street it's easier to do as it happens mostly when rev matching after being off throttle for a little bit
@@grembal. thanks for the response. i just bought one from today :) black friday sale
@@smilebro100Nice! Hope you enjoy it
my favorite road in california, and believe me i drove all of them, all the time. loved taking my fg2 honda civic si and later my e82 bmw 128i mspory 6mt here. just beware of cyclists during any daylight hours..or just go at night 😎
That's some clean driving man, good stuff. Looks like we're driving mostly the same car besides coils and camber. I think most of the time difference just comes from me smashing the gas a bit harder
Thanks! Yeah I do have a lot of work to do haha, I tend to brake too early and overbrake, and hesitate to get on throttle too much. Gotta get more seat time haha
@@grembal. seat time is good, being less afraid of dirt also works 😄
@404nobrakes So I should stop driving like a weiner, got it 😂
curious but what mount are you using for the GoPro? Its rock solid
a.co/d/eBJ1qHj - it was this mount, the footage was initially extremely shaky without Hypersmooth on but a pass of stabilization in DaVinci Resolve took care of that lol
I highly recommend the ansix auto mount I use in my videos. A couple other 86challenge guys use it. I turn off all stabilization, don't use any editing, and it still looks good
@404nobrakes I'd been eyeing the Ansix mount and I think Ill try to fab up something similar. My only problem is the headrest isnt very securely locked in place so it tends to shake around a lot 🥴
mod list?
Added mods in description 👍
Sound incredible. Love it! I have the remark system and this sounds great and is cheaper!
thinking about getting this exhaust once i get my GR86 soon haha. How are the cold starts and overall tone? Any drone?
Cold starts - loud for the first ~30s then quiets down a lot. Drone only really happens down in the lower rpms up to ~3.5k and it's pretty bassy, it's been a deal breaker for some from what I've read but hasnt been a problem for me
22 brz with rce ss1’s here too. I’m also anticipating understeer with these coils and I’m curious to see how you mitigate it cheers
I ended up getting a Whiteline 16mm adjustable RSB with some adjustable end links, havent tested it out on track yet cause it's too dang hot out here, but hopefully it ends up feeling similar balance-wise to stock 🤞
Do you have the ASC (fake engine noise) disabled for these? Or is this the combined sound of ASC and the exhaust?
ASC disabled. Sound is from a mic mounted to the rear bumper
can we get some driving clips with no outside audio, just inside audio? i want the yonaka but the exterior mic makes it sound way louder than it is, yet it does give me a great idea of what it sounds like. thanks
I have a clip I've been sitting on that i'll upload today 👍. It's just interior dashcam audio so it's not that great quality, but for future canyon run clips ill try to get my binaural setup going. Problem with my binaural setup is it seems to make road and wind noise louder that what I actually hear so I need to work on that. Interior noise wise the Yonaka is pretty mild. My tires howling are actually louder that what I can hear of the exhaust in-cabin
@@grembal. interesting, thank you! would you say the cold starts are wake-your-neighbor level or no?
@@brzo. Cold starts are pretty loud for about the first 30 seconds while the car is doing its whole secondary air injection cycle thing, but after that it quiets down a lot. I don't think it's really loud enough to bother my neighbors but then again I dont think mine care as im surrounded loud people 😂. Might bother some if you live in a quiet neighborhood, but this exhaust is at least quieter than other options like the GR perf. exhaust or AWE touring
i'm renting a gr86 in miami in a few weeks, i have driven a lot of fast cars but i'm looking forward to feeling how connected this platform is ;)
They're great cars! Really fun and forgiving in stock form, hope you enjoy it. Im pretty much the opposite of you haha, owned & driven slow cars all my life, the only properly fast car Ive driven was my buddy's C7 ZR1 and I was too much of a weenie to really push that beast 😂
Wish I had roads like this near me. What a raw experience!
Exactky what we need. No music, no talking and just extremely nice road and an extremely nice car with an ambiance!
Flung my 2015 BRZ into a bridge a couple months after getting it. Wasnt speeding, just put my foot down in too high of a gear on a wet road and paid the price, over corrected my steering and then panic braked. worst thing i could do, but you live and learn. not sure if RWD is for me, or whether i should get another one, i do severely miss it though, best driving car i ever had, nothing can compare the feel good you get from it.
Great that you learned from the experience and I dont think you should bar yourself from getting another fun rwd car as long as you can be responsible with it 👍. Taking some skidpad/drift lessons or doing some HPDEs will help you get a feel of the limits of your car. After doing a lot of track days through the years I really have no desire to push hard in the canyons anymore, too much can go wrong.
@@grembal. yeah I've started taking an advanced driver safety course, my instructor is a performance enthusiast but has been walking me through the risks and dangers of RWD and when the car can slip out, explaining lift off oversteer and the different factors that play into it. I told him about all the factors that played into my crash, and which ones I knew were hazardous and the ones I didn't even think about or consider. I don't want to jump back into another one without knowing what I'm doing 100%, false confidence on the road is lethal. thanks for being supportive though man, and I agree, I'm not fussed about pushing a car like that to the breaking point, I'm finding now that driving is more satisfying when you get a corner just right, rather than getting round it as fast as you can. love this video bro, your car sounds good 👍
Where/how did you mount your camera? Nice video
Thanks, it's a GoPro Hero 5 Black mounted to the rear windshield via Telesin suction mount. It's not perfect as any view on the GoPro wider than 'narrow' will show too much of the back seat, but it works lol
where is this?
California
Good run
Would you say the cold starts are too loud? And is the overall volume okay? Thanks
Cold starts are pretty loud but I got used to it, I don't think it's really loud enough to bother my neighbors. Overall volume is perfect for me though, I wanted a 'sporty' tone that had a little more volume than stock so I could hear the car at the power band, and also something that wasn't loud enough to drone at highway speeds, and this exhaust accomplishes that for me perfectly. If one wants more volume I'd say look elsewhere or consider getting a catless header or high flow catted header
Going to chuckwalla in April hope I can get somewhere close to your times
Thank you sir may I have another?
Hey man, wanted to know what did you air your tires down to?
I think I had it around 31/32 psi hot all around, ~27 cold
@@grembal. thanks man, I recently just went to streets of willow and wasn't sure how much to air down to. what tires were you running at the tiem you went?
@@uh5291 Nexen Sport R's in 225 flavor, they seem to respond well to lower pressures so might try 29-30psi hot next time
Hi, i got the same exhaust setup today. How it's been since you installed it? Getting pull over alot?
I only ran it like this for a few months then added a muffler. Never got pulled over thankfully.
@@grembal.do you have any clips of the final exhaust setup?
@@candyman9816 ua-cam.com/video/g5oGHNeJBlI/v-deo.html - I sold the car a year ago but I found a clip in an old SD card lol. This is the final setup after adding a muffler, it was perfect for me, zero drone and deep sporty tone
@@grembal.I appreciate you going through the archives to fish this out! Sounds badass!
Whats your take on the kendra? Are they the 300 or 180?
Good tires for getting laps in, not so good if you're looking to put down fast times. I had the "180TW"s but they felt like a slow 200tw or 300tw tire. Lots of audible feedback at the grip limit. They took heat really well though and I could run several laps and over-drive and they wouldn't grease up. I think I ran them for 3 track days, ~15k street miles (including a lot of canyon runs) and they still had some tread left but felt like they were heat cycled out by the time I replaced them.
I've been running the muffler delete setup with stock cat and resonator to straight pipe for a while but after 2 years the drone is starting to get to me. I'm considering putting a vibrant ultra quiet resonator to get rid of some of the drone.
Did you ever install the vibrant ultra quiet resonator?
@@candyman9816 I did, it made the exhaust perfect for me
@@mauricio951 been debating that set up, muffler delete but vibrant ultra quiet res? No drone?
@@aidanburke329 I say go for it because with stock resonator it sounds ricey and there’s a lot of drone so get the ultra quiet because this car is very loud with just catback delete
What size pipe
That’s was fun running with ya! 🤘 thanks for the clip.
