Hi Russell, thanks for your comment and your kind words. I'm going to assume that you are based in the UK. If so, you want to make sure that they are UKAS Accredited. This demonstrates that they have been assessed by UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Scheme) and have found to be meeting the required standards for certification bodies. Examples include - NQA, BAB, LRQA, BSI. There are also lots of smaller bodies. I'd recommend getting a few different quotes for comparison purposes. No I am a QMS student and at this moment I am writing one of my assignments, an audit checklist for a engineering company, for machining process :). I don' know much about this kind of process and I have a general description of the company. I am picking up some clauses and wondering what kind of questions to ask to shop floor personnel. That is it. tks a lot.

@@ericabarrosomilner Ah I see. So the types of questions I would be asking are 1) are they aware of the QMS 2) do they know how they contribute to the QMS 3) have they seen the quality policy 4) are they aware of the companies objectives and targets. Then you could ask about the roles and responsibilities they have and if there is a process or SOP covering what they do. Just suggestions but I hope that gives you a starting point?

@@ericabarrosomilner Hi Erica, for 5.2.2 I would check that the quality policy is on display for example on a company notice board. You could also ask whether employees had been show the policy. For 7.3 just check whether individuals are aware of the QMS perhaps. I hope that helps!

Jessica thanks for your comment ! I have seen companies do this in many different ways but the best way is by splitting your business into departments / key areas. Once you have done this you can then set objectives for individual areas / departments examples may include - picking errors in a warehouse environment, processing errors in sales offices, defective goods at goods in / out, scrap levels in manufacturing etc etc. Make sure these are SMART and that you have assigned who will be responsible for the objectives and any sub objectives. Hi there, Thanks for your comment. Yes your absolutely right. However, the standard does not specifically ask for many things. A Quality Manual or at least some sort of simplified version of one is however beneficial in order to set out your intentions for many clauses within the standard. These clauses or areas of the standard may not be included within your documented processes e.g. Interested parties, Scope of the QMS or Interaction of Processes. I hope that helps. I'm keen to get started but I'm not sure who to speak to. I spoke to the BSI direct, but I noticed that other providers appear to offer better value for money, for the same qualification. Thanks

@@tommcintosh1102 Hi Tom. Your best going with a provider that can offer a course which is IRCA certified. This is the recognised accreditation for auditor training (It stands for the Internal Register of Certificated Auditors). In terms of actual companies there are many e.g. NQA, Bywater, etc. However, whoever is IRCA certified is fine in my opinion. Hi Matt Thanks for your comment I hope you're keeping okay. In answer to your question yes absolutely ! There are plenty of roles out there for Lead Auditors both employed and self employed. You would have to go through the Lead Auditor Course in the relevant standards. However, after passing it your approvals will be based on experience in certain sectors (Of which engineering is a big one), training and skills. Hi Mustafa, Thanks for the kind words I'm really glad that you are enjoying the channel. I believe that the emphasis would be more placed upon the company rather than individual departments. So if it was me personally then I would go to HR and establish what documentation was in place there. If there was sufficient documentation then perhaps you could then ensure that this information is fed to the relevant departments so that it is closer to the people who need it. However, if there is insufficient documentation e.g. just contractual documentation then you may want to raise an NCR because there is insufficient documented information related to training, skills and experience for individuals within the company. They could then solve this by like you say having training matrices for departments. For example in the procurement department this may include competencies such as - Purchase Order Processing, Managing Quotations, Supplier Approval, etc. I do think that you have followed a really good audit trail there though and think you could add some real value by seeing it all the way through. Other suggested areas for improvement in the business could be - (1) Whether the company has a documented appraisal / performance review process in place. (2) Whether they have a robust 'roadmap' for new employees into the business going from inexperienced to trained and deemed competent to carry out all tasks.
