E Phrygian is E F G A B C D E Phrygian is a Dorian scale with a flat 9 and an augmented 5th If you are playing E Phrygian, and you don’t accent the flat 9 and the augmented fifth, you’re playing nothing but a Dorian scale. F and C are the two key notes in E phrygian, that make it unique. In order to create the Phrygian tonality, you must accent F and C, otherwise you’re just playing an E Dorian scale
