Fine looking palm
As a fairly experienced home gardener in south Louisiana where these are occasionally seen alone and without protection, a few things could account for this: 1. It's protected on at least 3 sides from potential wind chill. 2. It may be an individual palm that has innately a rare immunity to cold temperatures, a "survivor", if you will, just like humans to adverse situations, or 3. It may be located in what's known in urban communities as a "heat island", due in part to electrical currents, the underground plumbing of hot water, and human inhabitation. These things could account for its hardiness, either individually or together. I wouldn't look for it to grow a lot taller, however. In that event, all it would take is ONE night in the teens of long duration to kill it. Washingtonias are known at times to be fairly cold hardy, but they DO have their limits! 🌴
I grow them myself , they are an excellent palm and extremely cold hardy, as I am a zone pusher gardener also, she's a beaut🌹🤗♥️🙏🇺🇸🌴 Many Blessings ua-cam.com/video/EZ1Sosk4M2U/v-deo.htmlsi=Kq11B-_2ajA_dLg3
any update on your seed grown date palms?
Most of them perished, have 1 or 2 left that are still going - might make a video soon
Stop calling them palm ‘trees’, they’re just palms.
What you could do is say, weight 200 seeds and then calculate the rest. I really doubt that is 10,000 seeds. Maybe a couple thousand but 10,000 is truly hard to believe!
Wow, good luck.
I know that its an old video, but at that size it is probably rootbound and needs to be transplanted. Potted palms are also exposed more to winter cold.
Hi, did they germinate for you? Where'd you get them from?
Holy mackerel… a palm tree in London!! .. who knew..that’s sooo cool! I don’t know how it can get through the winter..
2 years later, what about it ?
I thought it was impossible to grow them at that altitude
can we have an update on this?
when did you put your seeds in ???
Did this survive?
can i buy a plant of each please?
That trunk is too wide for a Robusta. Looks more like a Filifera
Yeah.. I think so too..
Washingtonias seem to grow sturdier trunks in Londons cool, wet, cloudy climate
Thanks for the video!
Awesome!
Very interesting to see seedpods ! You can put it in a bit bigger pot. Thanks for the update !
Is it still for sale? Price ?
Do they survive in europe winters?
Amazing Why is it so expensive!! Does it resist high temperature?
Wow❤
Which side of the seed will the first leaf/frond grow from. The tap root side or the opposite side?
Got 24 growing in my conservatory, next spring i will plant them, some of them in the garden.
Has Phoenix Sylvestris in the mix by the looks of it. Stunningly beautiful.
Nice palm! Did it make it though the winter?
I am growing papayas too. I will post a video tomorrow on them. Do follow me so you can see how I get on.
Why selling?
They look stunning
Looking great, amazing recovery!
How?!?!?
I don't think people realise how big these trees get when they buy them.
Hi. There is a couple of big Washingtonia in Battersea Park in the subtropical garden area. I'd love to see a video of them if you're ever in that area. I haven't been there for about 10 years, bet they're looking good now.
They are doing fine. Saw them 2 months ago.
Where did you buy the Moringga seeds?
Great video! Well done, you've grown an exotic palm tree in a British climate! My phoenix dactylifera is already a month old and 15 cm long. I don't know what I can do when it grows very large, because in winter the palm can withstand down to -4°C😢
Sorry to see the Canary Island date palm died, very nice recoveries on the Washys. Thanks for the update!
beautiful plant. I didn't think it could handle that much moisture.
Beautiful
Trachycarpus can take temperatures down to -18C
But it doesn't like strong winds as it rips the leaves and makes a mess
This palm looks more than 15 years old, unless the owner bought a very large specimen to plant here. Certainly a rare large size for London. My one, also planted in London, is 15 years old and 2/3 of this size but has all its leaves brown after winter. Hoping it🤔 will pick up during summer.
Stunning.
Any more recent updates on these ?
Update on the redwood pls?
Are they furry? Could be aphids
I wonder how for North these could grow or if it's London's micro climate that enables them to grow specifically in the city 🤔
Maybe Valentia in Ireland ?? ... needs to be somewhere almost frost free ,or nothing below freezing for any length of time ..they do well on the South Coast ...someone said one survives and hanging on in lancashire but in poor condition 😮
Being from Northern England I'm jealous London can grow these and we can't.
I've got a pair I've imported and kept them indoors untill the weather's warm, I wanted to ask what's the best way to protect them over the winter ?
So gorgeous!
