Thank you Peter. As a lincolnshire lass now living in Australia that is a truly lovely video.Lots of snippets of interesting information . 🤗🥰🤗💓🦘🦘🦘
The lisp put me off
Amazing documentary. Was a little thin on the strong Catholic roots of our county. The Lincolnshire Rising was the very first of popular uprisings against the establishment of the Church of England, the rejection of the Pope, and the destruction of the monasteries! The country day (2nd of October) commemorates it. Likewise very little about great figures like Archbishop Stephen Langton of Wragby - who created the chaptering system of the Bible still in use all over the world today and composed one of the most beautiful pieces of music in all the Middle Ages and featured prominently across the Christian world (the Veni Sancte Spiritus), Robert Grosseteste - who developed the scientific method, Saint Hugh or Saint Guthlac!
Near The White Hart in Spalding there. Is another pub called The Red Lion. A little music history: When you think of great British rock festivals what springs to mind? Glastonbury undoubtedly, or those staged annually on the Isle of Wight, and in Leeds, or Reading? I bet it’s not Spalding. Before those hugely popular events were first staged, the little fenland market town was blazing a trail in the music world as host to the country’s first true rock festival - with headline acts including Jimi Hendrix, Cream fronted by Eric Clapton and Pink Floyd. The Barbeque ’67 concert took place on Spring Bank Holiday Monday - May 29, 1967 - in the town’s Tulip Bulb Auction Hall and to mark the historic occasion a blue plaque has been unveiled at the Red Lion Hotel. It was here that Hendrix, famous for songs including Purple Haze and Foxy Lady, spent the night following his performance. Hotel manager Nigel Wilkins said the guitarist hung out in the hotel bar with Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker before the gig and later that night is said to have jokingly tied his bed sheets together, hanging them out of his window to the girls in the street below, to whom he was chatting. I believe he also performed to the crowd. In the Market Square too.
I was born in Lincolnshire and my family have been here for about a thousand years
Give or take a few hundred
Yummy❤
That was an interesting watch, thanks
one of the loveliest counties in England, full of hidden gems and not (yet) ruined by 'progress'.
ROUND CHURCH....PETER..PAUL...AND....MARY.....ALL SAINTS....
By overall volume and by floor area, I believe Liverpool Anglican cathedral and York Minster are both significantly bigger. However Lincoln used to be the tallest in the world at the time of building due to all 3 spires being in place when first built. Then that really took the record!
IMO York Minster trumps this one (especially the atmosphere inside, and the sheer scale of the crossing and the artistic vaulting inside thetower), but Lincoln comes close!
Thanks for this well put together video. I can just about remember how Lincoln looked before the uni was built in 1997. Then we had the explosion of population in the 200s with the EU thing. In many ways it has changed - for better and for worse - but the one constant is Lincoln Cathedral, which still dominates the skyline coming into Lincoln from most angles, and is a bit of a beacon of hope for me.
Yes I also remember those days. We lived at South Park but my Primary schooling was at St Giles. We either bussed or cycled every day. Remember walking up Lindum Hill pushing my bike. They made us tough in those days.🤗🤗💓💓🦘🦘
@@barbarahague6843 Birchwood estate, mate. Used to run up Lindum Hill haha. Love it.
A POOR History ??? It was all about South Lincolnshire ! The second oldest book in the English language was "Havelock " about the prince of Denmark who was rescued by Grim a Danish fisherman who was given the right to start a town on the banks of the River Humber ??? What about Epworth where the founders of Methodism were born John and Charles Wesley ??? What about the beautiful Thornton Abbey were monks who had broken the rules were sentenced to be walled up ??? Mediocre !
You did Lincolnshire proud Thank You 😊
how in the world do you have such low views and subs! the videos look super professional and the food is amazing (not to mention clear video instructions and detailed written recipies) ! i hope you don't give up and give it another shot....
Thanks! I'm from Gainsborough and I love Lincolnshire, such a beautiful county.
I've got a house in G Town. Lincoln lad, originally.

Wow! That woman’s voice is oh So beautiful 13:10 gives me a feeling---any idea what this music piece is? Certainly fitting to this stretch of video...🤍
They said that the invention of the pushbike got rid of inbreeding in the Lincolnshire Fens. My Autie used to live on Cannock Hill just south of Lincoln. It must of been a posh Roman living area. She found that many Roman coins in her garden she was scared to tell anyone in case they wanted to dig it all up.
😂 what, I hope you’re joking about the inbreeding 🤯
@@henry9406 I had a motorbike so I could make it out the Fens with my 3 ears.

10:41 -> Peter mentions that Lincoln Castle was founded by William in 1068, despite the captions saying 1066.
The narrator is English. Sounds like he has a slight speech impediment. It is factual/educational.
@@lefoxmethodstudiouk Thanks to you to your answer.
When I first moved to rural Lincolnshire I couldn’t understand a single word anyone said, the accent was so strange but the English accent can be different every 30 miles or so . But now people seam to speak more clearly so as to fit in and a strong accent can hold you back in your career

Sorry to say but Cockney is not the standard mate, fact I'd wager Lincolnshire and the greater Midlands is the default as there is no real accent here just plain English
Love the history! I was a defense contractor working at RAF Waddington in the early 2000s. I stayed in Lincoln for 4 months (contractual delays) and loved it!
Why, in your imagination, would a Lincolnshiire family named Fletcher leave their home in Bracebridge, sail to Ellis Island, and end up as shoemakers in Albany NYS? Was there anything happening over there at that time that could have motivated them to do that?
Opportunity, I guess, and a desire to see the world. Could be any reason, really. An oppressive baron, horrible neighbours, lack of employment. Not much changes lol.
One of the most interesting videos I've seen. Thank you
Yes been for a visit made good friends and people of class and standards
Needs updating with Maggies new statue in Grantham 😆

ENGLAND IS WONDERFUL
5.30 am Sunday morning but I am so pleased I found this site. My parents lived in Gainsborough and I visited the old hall many times. Thank you for this reminder of times gone by.
Our town has changed a lot since the 80's. Both secondary schools knocked down, colloquially known as Middies and Cassies.. There is now a Riverside walk from Trent Bridge to Whittons Gardens that was built from end 90's to the 2000's. A lovely walk if you've not had the chance yet..
I will try this , it looks fantastic ❤️
I'm from America however, but very much descended from England I don't know the origin of my Harris name, but my Herries in Scotland and de Heriz of Wiverton Notts Ancestors of other lines are de Heriz Notts descent, as for a Mary Harris and Mary Ann Harris on my other Ancestors lines too I cannot say
I'm a Peter Harris too! I love history and Family history this is a cool video!
Well done fast paced yet very inclusive. I did not skip ahead to Belton and Spalding where my Norman de la Haye ancestors were stayed right with you. Thank you nice way to start my morning
Lived in Gainsborough Hemswell Lincoln and Louth since I was 16, love the history and architecture of the county. Thank you so much for this informative film absolutely fascinating

Be nice to have a narrator without a speech defect, and one who pronounces the names of the districts (Kesteven) correctly.
Very classy, I don’t think. What a shame someone could be so insensitive.
