The solution to this problem is found near the bottom of this page: www.doityourself.com/forum/doors-skylights-windows/422725-broken-pella-storm-door-lock.html. I cut out the section of the door as shown in that photo, and it allowed me to remove my stuck Pella door latch. The cut is completely covered when you reinstall the plates around the door handles. Brilliant hack! (pun intended)

Okay, I finally was able to get my storm door open! After removing the handles, cover plate and square shaft (for the handles; it has to be pushed outwards, to the outside side) from inside, you'll see slots for the handle above the deadbolt knob. Shine a bright light downward in that slot, and on the body of the lock mechanism you'll see a small dark rectangular tab in a horizontal slot. I was able to wedge a straight-edge screwdriver (but a putty knife might work better, or even a hacksaw blade) downward, towards the deadbolt mechanism, and push the small latch/guide/release tab towards the center of the door, which retracted the latch past the strike plate, allowing the door to pop open. I did not have to cut out any of the sheet metal between the openings, as one DIY site suggested, because I was able to get to the tab from the middle opening. Once open I was able to remove the whole lock assembly out of the end of the door (there are tabs to push in, to get it to come out - see other videos). I photographed the assembly and serial number for future replacement, but for now I duct-taped the latch fully open, then reinserted the lock assembly and reinstalled the plates and handles. I can use the deadbolt to hold it closed for now, until I can purchase a replacement unit. Don't bother with Pella's instructions to remove the Z-bar strip on the latch side of the door, because if your door is stuck shut, you still can't remove the Z-bar, even after taking out the five screws. Pushing the small latch inward is what did the trick. Whew!

I had the same problem when I purchased my used Prius. I thought it was a problem with the battery. I'd turn the vehicle on, but no READY light would pop up. I realized that the brake pedal MUST be pressed BEFORE turning the over the engine. Now the READY signal comes on every time.

Unplug the 12v battery cable in the back on the right side next to the spare tire. wait one minute and reconnect it. Works for me. This resets the whole electrical system. Your car went in to saftey mode, probably after hitting something. This is the issue. A mechanic told me toyota made this and feature so we have to go to them and pay money to fix it....
