Product Review Hansen Western Gear | Silver Concho Sets
Braydan Shaw joined us from Burns 1876 to review a few Concho sets that Burns Saddlery uses in their shop from Hansen Western Gear.
Hansen Western Gear is a family owned business, started in 1994. Tim and Marie Hansen are partners with their grandson Wyatt, who is active in the business and is a PRCA Team Roper and Tie Down Roper. The entire family has ranching and rodeo backgrounds and they have built the business knowing what the customer likes.
They specialize in quality hand engraved silver products. They have a large selection and inventory of conchos and buckle sets along with the Wyatt line of fine Sterling jewelry.
We reviewed two of their hand engraved conchos, and talked about the variety of finished available; sterling silver, sterling silver overlay, silver plate, brass, and the rust finish.
Hansen Western Gear is a wholesale supplier. You can visit their website and learn more at: hansenwesterngear.com/
This is part of an ongoing video series of reviews on leatherworking tools and materials to help you find suppliers for your projects and goods.

My saddles were made by Wade Warren, Clint Marrs, Bill McDonald. Those (and similar Visalia, Olsen Nolte, etc.) saddles were made with leather ground seats, shaped to the customer's sit bones. So there are other ways besides the metal strainer.

I have never seen that Hook & awl Needle ( at16:03 minutes) I have looked on Weaver ahd Leather Wranglers and cannot find it... is there a specific name they use for it? I have had a repair, restoration, manufacturing & Piece work business since 2002 and this would speed things up a lot ... and yes Time is Money.. :) Great video .. good job! Personally I skip the micron paper films and would just go to the mop with a final finishing paste or polishing compound on the mop. So 1000 or 2000 grit to mop job done without extra honing on these expensive and easily damaged papers.

I like a slightly convex grind, tapering from well into the blade, say two inches, out to the edge. Coupled with a good proper strop, with aggressive grit, one is good to go. Mostly use 6 to 7 inch knives, with the tapered ferrule on the handle.

Its getting expensive to keep the lights on. I had to raise my prices. I'm getting more saddles in for tear down, clean, and oil than I can handle, and I'm charging $200. Nobody says "no," so I imagine I could probably charge more if I was interested. Re-shears are $250, but I don't use a sewing machine for much of anything if I'm doing repairs. How do feel about repairs on old fiberglass trees? I'm not sure how much I trust them, and I don't want to repair something that might hurt someone, or worse, the horse.

We reached out to Matt and he sent us this, "I feel your pain, if I see something that I feel like is a danger or going to cause a problem I'm just brutally honest with the customer and won’t work on it. If you feel a need to I would probably have them sign some sort of waiver or maybe ask your insurance agent if you're covered."
