There's a plant for that | A low energy, plant based life
Recently I’ve been looking at almost everything in my life, and wondering, is there a plant we can sustainably grow that could do this job or be the material for this product? We can increase biodiversity, carbon sequestration, soil and air quality, if we grew and harvested plants that grew well in our area and used them to replace things that we currently get from animals, mines, or oil fields.

Many people believe that the pursuit of material wealth and economic growth is the key to happiness and success. Is economic growth all it’s cracked up to be?
Переглядів 163 місяці тому
When I was growing up I was taught that poor countries are catching up to rich countries with our help, international aid and whatnot. What I understand now is that the energy and resource use of the Global North, the richer countries, is not something to aspire to. It is also not possible without the poverty of many people in the Global South. Learn more about the Sustainable Development Goals...
Preparing for collapse and taking personal responsibility

I'm trying to be a good ancestor
Переглядів 54 місяці тому
With some huge environmental and economic challenges to face up to now and into the next few decades, I wonder, if so many people can’t or won’t care about others that are already living on this planet, how do we get them to care about future generations, people who aren’t even born yet? How do we get people to think about whether they are being a good ancestor? ➡️ MORE VIDEOS TO WATCH 1 ua-cam...
How I spend my time knowing collapse is coming
Переглядів 684 місяці тому
“The bad news is that collapse is inevitable, and is already here in some forms and for some people. The good news is that we still at this point have autonomy over many aspects of how we live our lives, and while there isn’t enough time to stop climate change, there is enough time to make a difference in your community, be productive towards projects that are important to you, as well as enjoy...

The truth about our current situation
It would be niceif you showed how you find a plant and the steps youuse tomake it useful. Show rather than tell
Thanks for the feedback. This was more about how we might structure the world in the future when we don't have access to fossil fuels, rather than my particular life at this moment. I don't have a bamboo bike or a medicinal garden, for instance. But I appreciate the sentiment.
Well Thoreau didn't live in a world of artificial scarcity created by capitalists in order to make money. We have many more Hoops to jump through today in order to get our basic needs met
Capitalism and industrialisation were well underway by Thoreau’s time I believe. However it was certainly easier to sneak off to the woods and build a cabin back then. You’d probably get arrested doing so in many places nowadays.
@@EmmaSolomano True, but capitalism is much more sophisticated in its hegemony and much more invasive today than in those times. . You have so called intellectual property rights, which implies for example that you are going to pay ten or more times the manufacturing costs for anything. If you want to bypass that, you can, but the only way to live a truly independent life from all the scams of capitalism is to do it illegally, as you just pointed out.
Thanks for the wise reminders, and also (wink) for the reality check about Thoreau’s physical and financial support from his famiy which allowed him time for such deep contemplation that we all benefit from. Great video!
I think we are trying to be tricked into thinking that it is deprivation to “go without” any wanted whim. Scary that it’s sometimes harder to get needs meet above wanting. People often option want because it “ feels easier “ 😢
Agreed. We are taught that it is freedom to have anything we want immediately, but the opposite is so much more freeing.
What a great video with a thought provoking message. I read Walden a couple of years ago..tough going, but definitely made me think!
Now, as of this moment, i plan on becoming the first Emperor of North America. When that day comes, i will undertake a strong environmental policy including the cessation of fossil fuel production, encouraging reforesting and rewilding initiatives, abolish all car-oriented zoning laws and regulations to breathe new life into our cities and ban both hydraulic fracturing and deep-sea mining. On another note, i can have every rig, refinery and pipeline dismantled and recycled into greener technologies. But i intend to be emperor with the consent of the people. That is why i intend to be emperor by a direct referendum supervised by the United Nations. However, i am having difficulties in finding an organization willing to listen to my perspective. If you can help in any way you can, you’re more than welcome to.
Your plan started the moment you wrote this comment? Those are fantastic ideals but the future is not run by one person, it is collectivist and anarchist. Giving a small number of people great power over others is not an ethical solution, although I do understand the desire to take over the world and make things right. I'm not in North America so luckily have nothing to do with your plans.
@@EmmaSolomano Nah, way before. And Napoleon III himself stated in 1839 that government is not in itself a necessary evil but instead a benevolent motor for the social organism. I know this isn’t your cup of tea, but for me, anything less than emperorship means that my policies’ll get shot down by Big Oil. But if you still wanna stay out of it, you do you.
Thank you for sharing your Truth. Double-standards is an interesting study of us mammalian primate human animals.
