Why don’t my parents love me?
Question. Why would anyone be placing a metal bobbin into a plastic bobbin race. That is an excellent way to score and damage that nylon plastic. Those bobbins are designed to work with either a metal bobbin rotary or metal oscillating race machine. I destroyed my race on my HD3000 and needed to replace it, and was read the riot act by a technician a few years ago. Figured someone with your clear sewing experience should know about how metal bobbins can damage the interior of a soft nylon race.
I was wondering the same thing. I have a Janome decor 5018 for 21 years and have never used a metal bobbin.
@@yvonnejoy7962 Nor should you. I wasn't told about metal on plastic, learned that one the hard way.
my mechanic advised not to use metal bobbins, only plastic for smooth sewing, plastic came with machine
@mysteria3038 Your mechanic wants you to gouge the soft nylon plastic in your bobbin race? Metal bobbins are designed to work in two types of machines. Front loading oscillating bobbins, and the fully metal Singer machines from the 1950's to the 1970's that have a metal horizontal rotary bobbin race. You really should never put metal against plastic. Metal will always win. If your machine loads from the front, and has a metal case, or the top and has a metal race, your mechanic is right to tell you that. If you have a nylon race, like this Janome does, you will ruin that race via gouging. It's also not designed to work with a metal bobbin. This is why they started making acrylic bobbins in the late 1970's (possibly even sooner) for class 15, Pfaff, Bernina and Singer class 66 bobbins. Their weight is calculated into the machine's setup so that when thread is feeding upwards, the bobbin runs light and smooth. A heavier load, such as with a metal bobbin is prone to jamming, gouging and snapping in that setup. You may have been lucky, but that may not last, and you might find yourself with a gouged nylon bobbin race. Look at your manual. If in doubt, contact Janome. Seriously. And all these people are replying with the same message...don't put metal in a nylon bobbin holder/race.

Mines not spinning?
hello i have this machine and trying to hem t-shirt with a twin needle but it seems to slip every now and them on the right needle i have a metal bobbin on the winding spool and thread on the spool holder and plastic spool in the case both top threads are threaded together and separated at the needle and the right thread is behind the hook please help me what am i doing wrong thankyou
Thank you for sharing this. I have this machine but have been struggling with the buttonhole settings.
I was looking for a video that explained the two slide levers on the upper right of a similar machine that I am considering to add to my machine collection and I happened to come across this video. I've been sewing for 50 years and is very comfortable with almost all sewing machines. This instructor is very good. From the first couple of videos that I saw, she teaches it the way I learned it from formal sewing instructors if my youth. It's good to see this skill being passed on. Her instructions are clear. The only difference I see is how she does her gathering instructions. I was taught not to tie off at either end allowing me to pull the thread to gather from either ends of both parallel threads, because sometimes the thread could break on you. I would also recommend talking about quality threads verses less quality threads, especially if the thread keeps breaking while you sew (quality threads make a world of difference). Carry on, you're doing great!
Thankyou! Thankyou! I made the cutest pockets for my granddaughter coat and they are now perfect!

For those who may be having difficulties getting the bobbin thread loop to work, you may have to press the foot pedal and let the machine cycle a few times before it catches. I tried the hand threading method described both here and in the manual and it would not catch the bobbin thread in one or even two tries. It was only after I cycled the machine a few times with the foot pedal that it grabbed hold to create the loop.
Otherwise, this is an excellent tutorial. Thanks, Ellen.
I just read your comment and used the foot pedal got it straight away
Thanks for this! I'll have to check again, but I thought this machine had an auto threader.
Thank you for your detailed verbal instructions....I heard that in using the buttonhole feature, the machine will stop automatically.
Can you show trouble shooters please
It was very helpful to see the whole process, thank you

I have watched and researched this video. Thanks for sharing. I can actually now put a fly in my hubby's PJ's!
Sorry...i am clueless! This is not for beginners obviously...😊 Thanks
This machine has a horizontal bobbin case, so probably has a magnetized ring around the oil wick hole, so metal bobbins should not be used.
Life changing
would you recommend stay stitching a curve before surging as to better maintain the curve?
This model sewing machine should only use class 15 plastic bobbins and not metal bobbins.
This was sort of helpful i wanted to make scrunchys but my mum was asleep and i don't know haw to thred the machine so i looked it up and found your video and it gave me the general idea of haw to do it but not completely, so my mum just woke up and now she is about to help me Thanks it really did help

thank you very much where can i get a copy
Can’t see cause your outta frame
Thank you, your video was the easiest to understand!
I am just learning. I can't get the needle to pick up the thread from bobbin. I must be doing something wrong.

Hi, I have threaded my machine but when I go to sew the the needle doesn’t move. I have lowered the foot and the needle and pressing on the peddle but the fabric not the needle move. What am I doing wrong? Have I pressed something I shouldn’t have? Thanks!!
Did you find out what was wrong?
Ellen, if you are making unisex PJ pants or shorts, how do you adapt the pattern that doesn't have a fly to accommodate one? Help please!
My first time touching a sewing machine, and I was able to do this perfectly! Thank you!!!!
Thank you!!
just drugged out my mother’s Janome and started using it, thanks for all your videos.
Hi There. I'm really new to using a Serger. I understand that we serge the edge of woven fabric before we sew a garment, and this takes the place of doing a Stay Stitch or an Edge Stitch on the sewing machine. May I ask, if we are taking off a MM by serging the edge, do I need to add an extra MM to the side seam before cutting a pattern? Thanks!!! xox
Thank you I really needed this! Your video was a God send 🙏🏻☺️😊 Can you use a fabric that is easier to distinguish the right side from the wrong side.
YOUR HANDS BLOCK THE IMPORTANT VISION!!!
Do you have a printable version of your steps? It would be a great addition to the video.
Thank you so much. After spending so much time on more than one occasion trying to understand the instruction book and with much frustration putting the JOLLY machine back in the cupboard I was actually going to sell it, but by pure luck I found your video while looking for how many $ to sell it for. You made it so easy so once again thank you. :) :)
