WOVEN WHISPERS | A film by Diarchy Hajong (MSc Class of 2024)
“Woven Whispers” is an ethnographic film that delves into the weaving traditions of the Hajong tribe, an agrarian community native to the Garo Hills in Northeast India and parts of northern Bangladesh. Known for their intricate woven dresses, the Hajongs have long cherished textile craftsmanship as a vital part of their cultural identity.
Through the voices of several women from the community, this film weaves together personal stories and cultural insights, revealing the deep connection between the community and their traditional weaving practices. The film explores the processes behind the creation of their woven garments while reflecting on how modern-day imitations threaten this ancient craft.
A poignant tribute to a fading tradition, the film captures the beauty, history, and cultural significance woven into each textile, while also highlighting the fragility of cultural heritage in a rapidly changing world.

Very well made. Frames are beautiful and colourful. They explain the craft with nuisances, and you have edited it very well. Best wishes to you, bro. ✨🎉
Brilliant work. It was great to watch. A kind of postmodern ethnographic film, where your presence makes it more reflexive. Best wishes to you. ✨

Great content. Very informative
Beautiful! Would have loved to watch more.
It’s interesting to see how weaving, like many other cultural crafts around the world, carries both personal and community history especially for indigenous communities. The tension between preserving these skills and the rise of mass-produced imitations echoes the struggles many indigenous crafts face today. A powerful reflection on the fragility of cultural heritage.
Well done!! Thoroughly enjoyed the film❤
Thank you for giving us viewers a living art that gives us some time to pause in this fast pace world.
The film is awesome and a great step towards the development of the hajong weavers who believe in keeping the ethnic culture and tradition of the hajong community
