On Memorial Day we set out to summit this 12,000-foot volcano and hoped to descend the SW chutes. With sustained high winds and cloud cover though, the upper mountain never softened up and we opted not to drop into the icy chutes. I did this back in May so conditions will be very different now. From last I heard on various fb groups there's about a mile of dry trail from the cold springs TH to the snow line

Sweet video dude! This is a classic i90 ridge route, love it. I made a video on it a few years ago as well, I did it in the spring which had a bit different snow conditions around Defiance lol your time looked more fun on that section haha. 👍

Thanks for shooting those cornices that can be deadly : (. You have me inspired to give this one a shot next season! Some sweet turns! What was the percentage of boot packing on this trek? Been to the top of St Helens during the summer but just got AST gear so I have been practicing on Hood.
I booted very briefly for maybe 500 vertical ft on a rocky ridge section. Everything else was skinnable though I think I lucked out with solid conditions. It's a great climb and ski, definitely go for it next season!

I climbed it on 4/13. And yes, you are glad you didn’t do it by foot 😂 hurt up and down. But glissaded almost to tree line. Gotta learn how to ski ☠️
