I don't mean like Miami beach but is it a popular tanning spot? Would I move more towards Cancun etc?
Thank you for your review. We have been looking for another hotel to check out in PV, the one we normally stay at has raised their pricing far beyond their rating level suggests. Your review hitnon some key details for us, the WiFi extra charge is an auto no-go for us. On a 3 week stay that just adds up to too much. Also your take on the club upgrade provided information that we were looking for. And seeing the comments from some others here makes us think that this hotel is experiencing what our current hotel is. I think we have ruled this place out for our stay in 2024.
Thanks for watching! In this day & age charging extra for WiFi seems extremely petty & unnecessary. The infrastructure is just not that costly to justify an extra charge in our opinions. Fortunately, our cell carrier provides great international data roaming, but it's still a major downfall & turn off when booking resorts that they try to upcharge as much extra as they can. Unfortunately we found out it was not included in Sun Club after we had paid to upgrade, or we wouldn't have done that either, we assumed since it was at Sunscape Akumal, the same would apply for Sunscape Puerto Vallarta. Our mistake for not asking first, but brand uniformity should be a top priority amongst the different AM Resort & World of Hyatt brands. We will likely stay away from their lower tier brands in the future, if not their entire line of Resorts (Dreams, Secrets, Now, Alua, & Zoetry, & Hyatt).
Muy mal servicio parece que les pide uno regalando las cosas en el desayuno comida y cena se hacen unas filas de espera enormes. La alberca está muy sucia. Que pena aver estado en esta estafa de hotel
Recently stayed at the Hyatt Ziva in Cabo and wanted to research some other high all-inclusive properties. In comparison, this place is a shack. A good review though!
Thanks for watching! From our experience the Sunscape branded resorts are older, & more budget friendly. A great bang for the buck, but you're 100% correct, compared to a lot of others in the World of Hyatt brand, they don't even come close. Our 6 night package last July, flights included, for two people was under $1700US. Really hard to beat at that price for flights, All Inclusive Resort, trip insurance, & transfers.
@@wanderlustwinklers That is a great price! Thank you for this information. I think I’ll save my world of Hyatt points for a different resort.
worst all inclusive place i have ever been to
It definitely has room for improvements. At the time we booked it was the cheapest by quite a bit, so our expectations weren't that high & it was our first time in PVR, so I can't compare others there, but both Los Cabos & Riviera Maya had places in a similar price range that were much nicer. It's definitely due for a renovation, which may be coming with Hyatt buying the brand. Sunscape Akumal is undergoing that right now. Sorry your experience was so bad! Thanks for watching.
@@wanderlustwinklers no problem. i used my hyatt points that i had spent a couple years earning and had zero A/C meanwhile 100% humidity and 95 plus temperature. and then had to pay 200 dollars for my guest. I i had known I would have gone down the street and paid 70 dollars at Amapa. I had no idea that it was a fake Hyatt
@user-cg9tx4sr7e yea World of Hyatt bought Apple Leisure Group, I believe in late 2021, & are slowly changing & remodeling them. They own all Sunscape, Zoetry, Dreams, Secrets, Breathless, Alua, Hyatt Vivid, & the old NOW properties. They seem to be remodeling & rebranding some, & selling off others.. the downside is it seems the ones they haven't started on yet, they're letting fall into disrepair, while still displaying older or enhanced photos online to make them look better than they are unfortunately, & Sunscape was the lowest level even when they were part of AMResorts, when Apple Leisure Group owned them.
Love this!!!
My husband and I are writing to express our disappointment and frustration at the Sunscape Hotel Resort in Puerto Vallarta Mexico, which we stayed from Saturday July 22, 2023 thru Sunday July 30, 2023. We experienced a significant amount of issues during our stay that impacted our overall experience. First during our arrival due to a mishap in the hotel our room was changed, and the room that they upgraded us to had no air conditioning, so we had to move to another room. In that room the air conditioning unit barely worked, and the water was cold. Next the room that was next door to us ordered room service and the tray of leftover food was left outside their room door the whole week why we were there, causing all types of insects outside our door. Also there are 19 floors in the building that we stayed with three elevators which only one of them worked the whole time we were there, not only was there only one functioning elevator, but it was on the outside in the heat. Next to the pool, if my husband and I were not wearing water shoes there was no way we would have been able to get inside of the pool, due to the gravel your feet were touching at the bottom, and that ended our pool activity for the rest of the trip. Lastly, the food, although we were not expecting the best, but what resort does not at least serve bacon and sausage for breakfast. We were told by the staff that works the restaurant that they do not serve it because they now cater to Mexican Americans. This trip has cost us money that was not in our budget, not only did we have to spend money everyday on breakfast, lunch and dinner, we had to find a pool and entertainment outside the resort. We chose this resort , because of the stay we had back in 2017 with our son who is now deceased, he had such a good time there, and the staff was very accommodating to him because of his disability, so we decided to go back to honor him. We know things change with time, but we weren't expecting this on our trip. This makes me want to choose another agency or even find a travel agent to start booking my future trips through, because this was very unacceptable considering the price we paid in money and time.
That's too bad! Sorry to hear about your experience. I believe they're letting the resort go without major maintenance. I think it will probably be rebranded soon & get a full renovation with Hyatt buying the brand. That's what they're doing with Sunscape Akumal now. When we stayed a year ago, there was some dilapidation, but not as bad as you describe! We definitely recommend using a Travel Agent, we book most of our trips through one, & we did our trip to Sunscape, but we didn't choose it due to her recommendation. It was the cheapest, & we leave the resorts quite a bit anyways, so we set our expectations pretty low beforehand.
Trust me I could have added so much more, but got tired of writing. Haven't heard from anyone about my complaints yet.
How long was the ferry ride from Cancun to Isla?
Thanks for watching, about 25-30 minutes each way.
Hello, was it difficult to find a golf cart rental getting off at the Xcaret ferry? I know ultramar has a golf cart re tal right next door so just wondering
Thanks for watching! It was really easy, you arrive at the same port, as soon as we exited we were approached by someone from Joaquin Golf Cart rentals & we were able to rent a 6 person cart for the day.
thanks man great video!! - From BCC
Thanks for watching!
i dont know how you guys dont have more views! this is an amazing review!

Su playa es muy bonita, su comida muy buena y sus albercas y playas excelentes! buena recomendación
I stayed here in the taller building on the 17th floor it was awesome!
Some friends we met while there were in one of the top floors with an ocean view, we meant to get up there to capture their room & view to put in the video, but unfortunately didn't get around to it. We loved Puerto Vallarta, so much to see & do!
I'm going there in 1 hour and I wanted to see what I was in for. Thanks for sharing your experience.
You'll love it, it was amazing! Our camera didn't do it justice! Thanks for watching & enjoy your visit!
@@wanderlustwinklers I had such a good time! What a beautiful spot
@P Awesome! We felt it was definitely worth the money to go & it's location was really easy to get to, so glad to hear you enjoyed it!
Wow! so beautiful
Great video. The onsite restaurants you mentioned (Italian, Mexican, Japanese)…were they included with your all inclusive wristbands?
Thank You for watching! Yes they were included in the All Inclusive package. There are a few upcharge items like Lobster at the Hibachi, but otherwise everything was included.
Beautiful video! Beautiful event in Ft. Madison, IA
Thank You Gabe, we always look forward to Fiesta weekend!
Unas preguntas, si hay actividades para niños? Que tal el área para niños?
Hola, gracias por mirar! Si, hay una piscina para niños, juegos y un club de exploradores para que jueguen los niños.
Went here for my honeymoon staff was amazing “shout out to Hector in the preferred bar”drinks were great Our room was beautiful definitely had its flaws though we had our own hot tub so that was great but the AC definitely sucked it was leaking nd it was hot in the room, nightlife definitely wasn’t there gotta say it was boring not what we were looking for but we Love Cancun but definitely won’t be going back to now Emerald . I think I’ll rate 2/5
We agree, while we did enjoy some of the nighttime entertainment by the Adults pool, there was not a lot to do at night. For what it cost us when we went, there are definitely more well appointed & newer resorts that we liked better, but it also wasn't the worst we've stayed at. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the great detailed video just booked this resort
Thanks for watching! Enjoy your trip!
Hi there did you go.on a tour or just get a mini bus or taxi there.
We actually rented a car from Avis in Playa del Carmen just off of 5th Ave. for a few days to see Cenotes & also to visit Chichen Itza, we have a video on our Channel of that trip as well. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the video, I just booked a stay at Coco Reef in November, so excited!
Youre welcome, thank you for watching! Enjoy your trip!
Awesome review, Thanks for letting us know! Are the beverages of minibar free?
Thank You! Yes, the in room Mini Bar drinks are free, & refilled daily. We usually leave a small tip each day in the fridge for the staff that restocks them & often Request what we'd prefer to be stocked with.
Hello, we are going coco reef in 2 weeks, just got back from Dominican and the seaweed was very bad all over the beach and in sea, what was the seaweed like when you went?
When we were there (October of '21) it was very minimal, the staff typically hauled away 1 or 2 wheel barrels full each day. Seaweed season usually ends around October, so going earlier than that I would expect there to be more. The staff works very hard to keep the beach clear, but I would expect, especially in the mornings, there will be some seaweed.
Brilliant thank you for the reply, also are you allowed to go into the sister hotels and use facilities? What was the entertainment like at coco reef beach as I am going with 2 other couples aged 22
@@maxbates5580 we paid an upgrade upon arrival, if I recall around $120 for the week, & it allowed us to visit the sister resort in Playacar, although we were so busy on that trip we never did. There wasn't a lot of nighttime entertainment, but they did have shows or a band. It's a few blocks from the northern part of 5th Avenue though, which is great to walk to for entertainment day & night if you don't mind getting off the Resort.
@@maxbates5580 to add, the upgrade gave us a number of other amenities/services, a special beach bar & some privilege seating, I believe it also included wifi access resort wide, top shelf liquor, a few other things, & access to The Reef Playacar with shuttle service included. Reef 28 I believe only their guests can visit the other two, but not the other way around, it's a smaller, Adults Only, boutique type hotel located off the beach a few blocks.
Thank you for the replies, that’s sounds good, what was the weather like when you were there? And heavy rain and cloud?
Great video! If you had to choose between this or the Reef at Coco Beach which would you pick?
Thanks for watching! We both loved The Reef Coco Beach, the beach & swimming area is small, but calm & nice, where as Now is almost unswimmable. Being just a couple blocks from 5th Ave was really nice too! Now has more & better restaurants, but the pool & swim up bar were kind of awkward. Now had better night shows, etc. but is a good distance from Downtown. The Reef was almost 50% cheaper at the time, so that definitely helped sway our vote! We leave Sunday for a new experience in Puerto Vallarta & will follow with a series of new videos from there at the Sunscape Vallarta Bay.
What month were you there thank you 🙏
Thanks for watching, we were there mid February of this year for 5 days.
Pretty cool 😎👍
Thank you for this video! Is the water in the room(mini bar) free? Was it easy to book your covid test?
You're Welcome! Thanks for watching! Water was free & refilled daily, covid tests were super easy to book at the lobby, but my understanding is they do charge for them now, I believe it's around $30-$35USD for an Antigen test. We booked in 2021 & it was free at the time of booking so they honored it, but others were being charged when we were there in February.
Is that pool by the Mexican restaurant adult only?
The Adults Only Pool is the large square one in the front, without a beach view. I believe it was next to the Italian Restaurant. In the video it's where the ladies were doing Yoga, & also where they did night time karaoke & entertainment.
Wish we were at The Soggy Peso right now!
Great job you two!! Thanks for all the great info!
Thanks Guys! We greatly appreciate your support & hope to get where you guys are someday! Your Hot Air Baloon ride looked absolutely amazing! We're ready to celebrate my (Dustin) 40th Birthday at the end of July in a new place for us, Puerto Vallarta! Keep the great content coming, you're both an inspiration to us!

Thank You! We definitely would like to go back & spend more than 6 hours there & explore more of the Island, it's an amazing place!

Going here in May so glad I watched this because other stories weren’t good , thank you!
Thanks for watching! Enjoy your trip! We had a few minor issues, the resort is starting to show its age in places, but the staff, food, & drinks was great & we enjoyed all the nighttime entertainment. I feel like if guests go looking for things to complain about they'll find them, but if they go with an open mind, they'll have an enjoyable experience.
@@wanderlustwinklers thank you!
In your opinion what did you think about the food 1-10???
Food at the buffet, which for us was mostly breakfast, was decent, on par with many of the other AI resorts we've been to. The food at the Al A Cartes, especially French, was great. Smaller portions, but you can order as much as you'd like.
@@wanderlustwinklers thank you
I appreciate these videos, caused I just booked this resort. Thanks
Thank You! We've got a few more from last month's trip we hope to put out soon of some off resort activities we did while we were there. Enjoy your stay!
Great video! Thank you!
Thank You for watching! We are planning to release a Resort review video soon as well since this one was mostly a tour. Stay tuned!
Hello is there a hot tub?
Hi Matt! Unfortunately there is not a public Hot Tub, however many of the preferred club rooms have their own Hot Tubs on their balconies.
Love that opening time lapse. Fun trip To the pyramid! So much fun info too! Great music choices as well! Thank you so much for sharing!
Hi there great video and great info. Can you please tell me which is the nicer Reef hotel to stay in as I see they have 3.It this reef hotel on the beach as maybe the other are further away. Can you tell me is the hotel a adult only place and looking for a more quieter place really to relax but I take it if you want to go outside for a look around you can go to 5 avenue for drinks etc.Was the all exclusive good.Thanks.
Thank You! Yes so the Reef 28 is the Adults Only located more central to 5th Ave. & from my understanding when booking there you can visit the other two via shuttle. The Reef Playacar is further south & really isn't walkable to 5th Ave. Coco Beach is in the northern part of PDC, but very close to 5th as well, we walked there every day. I would say in terms of resort quality they would rank 1st: 28 2nd: Playacar 3rd: Coco Beach. But 28 is not on the beach directly. Coco Beach has a somewhat secluded Beach, a very nice peaceful swimming area, & is easily walkable to 5th, so it sounds like it may be the best fit, however 28 is Adults Only & you could still access the other two for food, drinks, & Beach. Coco Beach when we were there was very quiet & secluded yet close enough to walk places, however it was also only at 40-50% capacity in October, I believe they are allowed up to 80% currently.
@@wanderlustwinklers thank you for the quick reply.I have seen reef 28 on UA-cam but does it swing more in the way for abit young people or is ok for just adults. We are bot in our 40’s and it will be the first time to Mexico and looking for all exclusive but if I could say a more chilled relaxing hotel.Hard when there are so many.Thank you for your time and keep up the good work.
@@robbogsy3469 we ate dinner at Coco Beach with a couple in their mid 40's that stayed at the 28. They had nothing but good things to say, so I tend to think it is more catered towards folks 35+ & is more of a smaller boutique type hotel. Being in our late 30's we like more laid back places as well & if I had to choose between the three, would prefer the 28. Especially if you plan to explore the 5th Ave area & eat off the Resort some. The beaches are still accessible & with the free shuttle to the other two, would be the best of both worlds in my opinion. While having buffet & lunch food restaurants is convenient, the food is decent but not great, but the Al A Carte restaurants were very good.
@@wanderlustwinklers thank you for your help.
@@wanderlustwinklers Hi you mentioned that a la carte is great in coco beach but is it in all inclusive or you have to pay for it?
Thanks for the video - I'm attending a wedding here in April and am looking forward to checking it out!
You're Welcome, have a great trip, it's a beautiful resort! We are at Now Emerald this week & miss how peaceful the beach was at The Reef!
Best transportation from Cancun airport to playa del carmen
We have used transfers through Funjet (Amstar) when booking our packages the most, both shared & private & been very happy, & also used Santiago Chavez at LocalToursVIP. They are great for both transfers & any excursions or Trips you may want to take. You can contact them here: www.localtoursrivip.com/transfers
The ADO, it's fast, safe and cheap..
how did you like your stay and the food here?
Our stay was great, we had a ground floor room with pool view, the rooms were nice, small, but well kept. The AC worked incredibly well, we actually had to turn it down because it was too cold, not common from our experience of other Resorts in the area. The food at their three A la Carte restaurants was very good, especially the Hibachi at the Japanese Restaurant & the Italian Restaurant. The lower level buffet & snack bars were average & on par with other AI resorts in the region we've been to. The nice thing was it's just blocks from 5th Ave. So we were able to walk & go eat lunch reasonably cheaply a few meals.
@@wanderlustwinklers Awesome definitely great to hear, I'm a single father so its definitely affordable loving the deals they have especially that I'm taking my son for his 16th bday in March, so I truly appreciate the quick response!!! Happy New Year's and wishing you guy's many more blessings in life!!
@@bassbullienation8703 Thank You! Happy New Years to you as well! I think you guys will love it, in our opinions the bang for the buck at the Reef is hard to beat & we liked it better than several places we've been to & spent atleast 50% more.
Love your videos they very well done and accurate. I would respectfully suggest that if anyone is travelling from any foreign country where re entry requires a PCR test there are many places along 5th Avenue that do this test for far less than the hotels charge and results are usually ready within 24 hours 7 days a week.
Excellent point John, we noticed that as well in the areas along 5th & nearby & they all seemed to be much cheaper than what the resorts were charging for PCRs, while Antigens were about the same. Thank You for the kind words & support, we hope to have our Chichen Itza video out soon. With the Holidays & one of our beloved Fur Babies passing, we took some time off. We also have an upcoming trip to Now Emerald in Cancun next month & plan to do enough recording for a number of additional videos. Stay Tuned!
With the Omicron variant things are rapidly changing, every day there seems to be a shift in travel issues, so right now, Dec. 21, has anything in the video changed ?? Thanks.
Thanks for pointing that out, as of Today, (it actually changed a couple weeks back) both Vaccinated & Unvaccinated require Covid tests (Antigen or PCR) within 1 Day of departure instead of 1 Day for Unvaccinated & 3 Days for Vaccinated. Otherwise requirements have stayed the same. The CDC recommends another test 3-5 days after return to the US, but it's not required. Mexico has adjusted things like occupancy & curfew/bar closure times, but otherwise their requirements are the same.
Thank you we are going Jan 3rd and we are not vaccinated. This helps with peace of mind on requirements since we will get tested but not vaccinated.
The antigen test is much cheaper, most travel insurance now include covid and will repay what expense you incur if tested positive..
Hi. Good video. How many hrs prior to the flight to mexico did you do the health questions?
Thank You! We did our Health Questionnaire's about 3 hours prior to our flight back. A good time to do it is in the Resort lobby as you wait for your Airport Shuttle while still connected to the Resort WiFi.
Is it safe in the Yucatan area?
We felt 100% safe, rented a car & drove inland 3 hours to Chichen Itza, leaving Playa del Carmen at 5 AM to get there felt a little uncomfortable, but was without issue. There are some turf related issues right now, including some in tourist areas, however it doesn't appear any tourists are being targeted. They've brought in a military force to help deter violence as well.
I was there when they fire bombed a club in PDC,it was drug related and that's the reason i stay away from the nightlife areas..I party at my hotel at night,it's cheap and safe.
Love your video😍 How did you get there? Taxi ( how much?) ore rent car?
Thank You!! We rented a car from Avis in Playa del Carmen for a few days. We knew we wanted to go to Chichen Itza as well (video still to come), & that was the most economical way for us. Azul sits right off the main Highway south of PDC, Taxi's wouldn't cost too much from there, or the public transit busses (Collectivos) run from PDC near the Ferry Terminal south for just a few dollars, but you have to pay attention & Request off then flag one down going the opposite direction to get back.
Thanks, do you need a covid test as well when entering?
Mexico is not requiring any negative tests or vaccination status for entry currently, only the health questionnaire (Vuela Seguro) & we've only been asked for it while flying out, not in.
@@wanderlustwinklers thanks!
