The children are being trained at a very young age as future professional pickpockets by these lazy adults... teaching them that it's ok to steal.... It's disheartening to see that these young children are being used by their parents to commit a crime.

I've only visited Italy before within Europe (Rome/Naples/Florence), and upon hearing that pickpockets are common, I decided I'd only wear sports bras and put my iPhone, AirPods, and MagSafe wallet that held my cards/euros, in between my boobs. They'll have to SA me in public in order to get my things. Empty pockets, no bag- unless I took my DSLR with me or I went shopping, but I put my camera/lens in it's own small padded drawstring bag and if someone tried anything, I'd certainly notice. I made sure to only purchase/carry 1-2 items in their own bags, always within my line of vision (it certainly helped save money haha). Those mfs sure are lucky they ain't in America, as they'd be spasming on the floor screaming like they saw the Holy Ghost from my taser. Hmph.

This is of course organized and they do look for Asians who are known to carry more money. Im in Florence at the moment and there are Gypsies begging everywhere and instead of children the are using dogs, which is just terrible as the small dogs appear to be drugged. Horrible people who should be deported!!

Thank you, we were in Italy last year and thank God nothing like this happened but we too were constantly on the lookout and being careful... I think another good way to avoid being pick pocketed is to openly and obviously look around at people who get too close to you and then while they are watching hold your bag closer..that way they know you saw them... Once on a train in London I saw a young man standing near the exit watching me, the train was not yet moving and the door was open.. I was sitting down, my friend was next to me, I immediately held my bag closer and checked where my friends bag was, when he saw this he quickly looked away, for a moment I felt ashamed of myself for suspecting him... However moments later he grabbed the handbag of a Japanese lady tourist and ran off just before the door closed... She had a suitcase and a shoulder bag, he knew that if he grabbed the shoulder bag she would not try to follow him and leave her suitcase behind... Also when wearing a small backpack with your days supplies in it , wear it in front of your body, that way nobody can unzip or cut it. Also be careful when standing in lines for tickets to see attractions, ferry etc...

That's crazy. I was walking from the florence station to my accommodation under the rain, holding umbrella and pushing luggage. All of a sudden my backpacks zip was all undone. Nothing was lost but incredibly shocked.
