Breaking down (spalling and preforming) a partial nodule for flint knapping
Here I’m taking a partial nodule of a Buffalo river chert variety known as TN River chert. Piece was challenging but got it broken down into usable pieces that are ready to be heated and turned into points. When heated it turns a lavender color.

Native American debitage site in Tishomingo county Mississippi. I’ll be taking these old artifacts and working them into points in near future. This area of Central TN West TN Northeast MS and Northwest AL has a lot of high to good grade material which is why there are so many well made artifacts found in this area #arrowhead #flintknapping #archeology #bushcraft #fossil #survival #arrowheadhun...

Making a Adena blade out of the material dubbed by artifact collectors as Horse Creek chert or Pickwick tricolor Jasper. HCC is notorious for being hard to work and this piece is no exception. I did manage to get a big blade with those classic HCC colors of red yellow and black from this tough nodule of chert. #arrowhead #artwork #bushcraft #flintknapping #archeology #fossil #survival

Beautiful work my good man ! Most have no clue what work goes into these puzzles we work.
Ever trade for different flint, or sell any?
Tennessee river chert isn’t a variety of Buffalo River chert so much as they’re both varieties of Fort Payne chert…but whatever you call it it ought to heat up real pretty.
Awesome work!!
Great work on your lost lakes. Just curious, how much would you sell the black Buffalo lost lake?
Hi Brad That Tennessee River can be tough sometimes. 🦉
@@dannystephenshiking951 definitely needs heat
I’d like to go with you and pick up a few nodules for myself
What a beautiful stone. Fantastic knapping job Brother. I think Horse Creek chert is the prettiest stone there is for knapping making beautiful items. Great job friend. Thank you.
sell me a point
Damn! What a gorgeous piece of stone and knapping good job dude
Very nice. I’m in the process of making one as well.
Pieces that size are hard to come by these days, right?
Getting harder due to people getting out and looking and finding it but there’s still some to be found hopefully in little spots off beaten path where people don’t know or think to look
Great looking piece. Do you sell those boppers?
Very nice bifacial reduction. Raw, heated, bifaced with great color. Excellent workmanship! I have a actual Lost Lake a bit latger than your replication made from gray Fort Payne.
Nice control.
Great work .👍
Nicely done Brad! Beautiful point. 🦉
Nice work !
Ok , ok ! Would it be too much to make a functional Atlattale !?
Amazing colors and some good imagery ! Looks like a good cedemetery slate or chert ! Do you know the name of this material !?
This is Buffalo River Chert.
Nice place and beautiful pieces ! I just found your channel , im also a collector of the ancient rock art and tools ! Not much chert or flint around here in Massachusetts but it didn't stop them and it's not stopping me ! Thanks, have a good one !
Small Jasper gravel rocks in Massachusetts?
@@bradharrison5293 not nearly as frequent as in other places , my are you'd be lucky to find one in a season .
Man bro let's trade
Looks like pretty good stuff to me, I'd be thrilled to find that
Interesting looking chert. Enjoyed the video. 🦉
Great job Brad! Gorgeous!
Great job! I’m always amazed at your ability to work Horse Creek! Beautiful work 👍
Beautiful work!! Thanks for the video!!👍👍
did you position that swoop in the blade where the overshot happened?
That's a beauty, most colorful buffalo river I've seen.
Awesome blade, do you use indirect percussion of any kind on other points? Just subscribed thanks for the videos
To thin I use direct percussion. What I’ve noticed with others who use indirect percussion is they break a lot of points. I know indirect percussion has its place in certain applications like punch notching which I sometimes use.
thats so cool please make more videos
you should sale them that's badass 👍👍👍👍👍
I do sell them. If interested let me know and we can go from there.
NICE JOB!
Thanks!
Awesome work brother
Thanks
Killer adena! Enjoy your videos, especially the horse creek chert points. You are a true craftsmen. Looking forward to the next video.
Thanks I’ll try to get a few out this next couple months
Man that is sweet
Nice work and stone
Turned out nice Man. Gotta love horse creek colors. I just posted a short of some Buffalo River peices i knapped so far from the material I got from Brade Moore.
I will check it out. I put out a short I think last night of a Buffalo lost lake of some material I picked up few yrs ago
Do you gather you own HCC? seems like you work a lot of it,.
I do. It’s hard to find and the few spots that do have it finding quality material that you can work out a point and a point that carries the classic colors is rare.
@@bradharrison5293 I'm in Illinois, I'll I can gather near me is freeze cracked to hell Burlington. Every once in awhile I stumble on a nice piece but it's rare.
Nice job man!
so is HCC actually a jasper?
So I’ve been told. Comparing it to other jaspers I have or had, the higher grade pieces look like it. Another name given this material is pickwick tricolor jasper.
@@bradharrison5293 never knew that, thank you.
So does it work in a flintlock?
good video, im new to knapping and trying to find resources to locate rocks in the middle TN area that are knapable
Check creeks and hollows along hey 13 in Wayne county particularly north of Waynsboro.
