Yottamaster PS500RC3 5-bay HDD enclosure, or why sellers hide the real specs of HDD enclosures
There is confusion on the market, as slow USB 3.0 models are sold along with models featuring the faster USB 3.1, 3.2 and 4 speeds.
Another point of confusion is the RAID availability.
I found this model, that features both: fast USB 3.1 speed and a hardware RAID. Even Yottamaster isn't trying hard to clarify the difference between their models, so I decided to share my findings.

Thanks for the video, being a big family we usually roast 3-4lb chicken. I will stick to my old but wonderful BLACK+DECKER rotisserie Oven CTO7100B
Your said 70-80mb/s speed on usb 3.0 is also nonsense as I have same enclosure but usb 3.0 variant and transfering files from ultrastar 20tb hdd in my pc to wd gold 14tb hdd inside enclosure I get speeds of 200-250mb/s. 5gbps refers to theoretical speeds of usb 3.0...
**NOTE: preheat is to heat the oven prior to adding the food. The prong that he used to pull out the screen drawer is actually just used for lifting the rotisserie bar with the meat on it safely. Most people use prongs or oven mitts to pull out the trays. Thank you for the video.
Speed test ?
This is my new set up! I got a Hp elite desk 800 G3 with 1 TB SSD, I installed a 2.5GPBS Ethernet m.2 and I run Proxmox with Samba. I then bought the Yottamaster 5 Bay and have 44 TB connected as ext4 HDDs! It's a beast set up for less than $400 bucks. I run so many containers on my Proxmox VM that just write to the external HDDs
I bought two enterprises used 14TB HDDs from eBay for $90 and one 16TB that I already had (this one was more expensive but 3 year old). The HP was $140 I think and the 2.5 gbps m.2 was $20 on Alibaba.
Yottamaster 5bay used with NO raid was $85 on eBay.
EliteDesk G3+ is a hell of a machine.
What you said about USB Type-C model being faster is not correct. It really does not matter if you get a model with Type-A/B or Type-C connector, because both uses exactly the same USB interface and have the same max speed. Note also that USB 3.0, USB 3.1 and USB 3.2 refer to the same interface and the biggest difference is that with each newer version there comes more complexity in what those standards support. At base level all of those standards guarantee just 5 Gbps speeds and connector will not make any difference. For you to have a quicker model you would have to get a unit with USB 3.1 Gen 2 or USB 3.2 Gen 2x1 or USB 3.2 Gen 1x2, which would allow max 10 Gbps connection. Note also that USB 3.1 Gen 2 allows 10 Gbps on both USB-C and USB-A connectors, so again, just choosing the USB Type-C connector will not guarantee you any advantage in performance. Finally, even if you got the model with 10 Gbps connection, your PC must also support it. If you have only 5 Gbps USB ports on your PC, then you will still be able to only get up to 5 Gbps speeds. A good video which explains the differences of USB standards: ua-cam.com/video/FnCoALB1dcU/v-deo.html Based on the Amazon link you provided, your unit uses the 5 Gbps connection which is the same as models with USB Type-A/B connectors and it looks like they do no have this model with USB 3.1 Gen 2 connection. For that you would have to get the Yottamaster FS5C3 model
I'm glad you left this comment. The video shows (7:24) a sheet where the company explicitly says that models with USB-A are support up to USB-3.0 while models with USB-C are on the faster USB 3.1+ standard.
@@Orlin_does_stuff The USB-C connector is part of USB 3.1 specification, but the speed is the same as for USB 3.0. Your unit complies with USB 3.1 Gen 1 specification which is essentially the same as USB 3.0 except that it has a USB-C connector instead of USB-A connector. For performance to be better it must comply to USB 3.1 Gen 2 standard and you do not have it in your unit. So essentially you could just buy a USB 3.0 version and use USB-A to USB-C converter on the cable and then practically you would have exactly the same unit. You can also see that the prices for USB-A vs. USB-C versions are practically the same and if the USB-C unit was better in any way than just a connector, then you would have to pay much higher price premium for that version.
Thank you so very much, my friend. It is very helpful.
Me acabo de comprar esta freidora de aire. Gracias por el video. Bendiciones
We bought one of these in November. Our regular oven has not been turned on but once since then. Love our air fryer. We have even made beef jerky in it. Would definitely recommend!
I wouldn't trust some random raid controller in a random enclosure! I would configure it as JBOD and use software for raid. I recommend btrfs, mdadm or even zfs over hardware raid. If the controller dies, you can use every other enclosure.
Windows allows you to use software raid. But who cares about windows, I don't. I know that it works but haven't used it. Also the speed isn't questionable, unless you have some ancient CPU - but then, a random raid controller without a lot of battery backed RAM connected via USB is probably also questionable.
This is a valid point. The RAID controller is JMicron (unknown model), so it's an OK controller. And it adds about $30 to the price. I'd say it's somewhere in the middle between 'Buy it' and 'Don't buy it' :)
My comment wasn't about the cost. It was about the pain and suffering caused by proprietary raid controllers. My general advise is to not use hardware-raid at all, just use what the operating system offers. Use the money saved on hardware-raid to get more RAM and maybe a CPU with a few cores more (ram is more important). Linux natively has mdraid and lvm2 that operate on the block-level and btrfs that operates on filesystem-extents. Windows also has software-raid and a volume manager that works on the block-level (don't know the details). FreeBSD and Linux (with patches because of the CDDL, free but intentionally incompatible with the GPL) support ZFS, which is comparable to btrfs but with more/other features. This makes it much easier to replace hardware or repair it if something breaks. A few examples of the mentioned pain and suffering caused by proprietary raid controllers: No compatibility between vendors and even models. Broken tools with horrible user-interfaces like megacli/storecli and so on. Broken firmware, raid controllers may crash if queried by an old version of the management software.
@@zvpunry1971 3 months later, I can share an update: the RAID array did not cause a single issue.
Is this 110 volts or 220 volts?
110. I'm in America.
Wow! The instructions doesn't explain or show to attach these in this manner, thank you for doing so!
Thanks for the video. Just bought this model and I love it. Everything cooks so fast. I still need to determining the right cooking times. Paid $50 from Wal Mart. Can't wait to try a whole chicken. What mode did you use?
What brand and model number of the thermometer you were using?
They need to do a half hour infomercial with different recipes going at the same time in a half dozen or so ovens. The booklets they provide sucks! These private podcast videos are rank amateurish.
Why do you come here to complain? I love that he did a video of his experience.

Worked well on 4 lb compressed turkey breast. Used bake function at 325 for 45 minutes. Did not turn it. Turned out great.
I quit at asparagus
Asparagus is always a success with an air frier. That from a devoted meat eater! :)
Probably better for Cornish hens
Thanks for the video. I can't wait to bake a chicken in it
Am getting this gourmia 14qt product for 50 dollars plz recommend me to buy this or not?. Power xl 8 qt am getting for 55 so plz recommend me which one is better

@@Asivakumar503 how it's working
Now that you've had it for some time, how is the cleaning process? The problem that I have with my current air fryer is that I cannot clean the rooftop where the burner is located.
Does your air fryer still work
Yes. And I cook a few times a week - from sandwiches for the kids, to rotisserie chicken, french fries, shrimps etc. I'm very happy with it. No one paid me for this review, I bought the frier at regular price.
Yes, and it's being used almost every day now. I'm glad I paid more but got this bigger model, that fits a whole chicken, plus enough veggies for the entire family. The only problem is, the black paint from the bottom pan peeled off almost completely. But I consider this a minor defect. I also find annoying that the two mesh pans need to be washed almost daily, because they collect food. But so far, no rust, no wear, despite I wash them in the dish washer. All in all, considering the healthier food we get, it was a great buy.
Thank you, I was looking for a video that explained it. The front window is very hard to clean- that's really my only complaint and it's top-heavy, so it wants to fall over every time you open it. We've been ok with the results, though. Going to rotisserie for the first time today. Thanks again for your video.
Hola, mi horno está presentando fallas. Hay una manera de mantener un contacto en privado con ud para alguna ayuda.
I don't speak Spanish and barely can provide meaningful support. You may want to contact the seller.
If you are not going to truss the bird -- and you should -- at least tuck the wings back.
Thank you for this honest assessment. It looks like it is a viable option for a small garden or plot. Thank you so much for the info.! God bless.
Mine is stuck on open after only 2 months I've tried everything to fix it.😢
Can you use it to toast bread and bagels?

Thanks for the video. It did help, as I just purchased one!
Got mine for Black Friday 22 and by Jan 23 it stopped working. The door is open on the control panel doesn’t go out with the door closed. Really disappointed with the quality of the product. Worked great while running. Now I have to spend twice as much for more of the same poor quality.
My instaPot brand basket style is still going strong after 2 years. But I want debility to do a rotisserie chicken.
Awesome to see such great results! Thanks so much!
I would save the box for a refund

How are the speakers? I have a subwoofer to pair with it if the internal are decent enough.
I bought this air fryer on Nov and it was out of order after 4-5 uses , on Dec I returned it back to Walmart , it cooks very well but unfortunately broken after few uses, I don’t recommend it.
Yeah, same with me, and I hear other people complaining. Good concept, low quality.
I used mine plenty of times still running like a champ I love it
I also bought this in Nov and we use it daily with no issues. It is possible to get defective products in a row.
@Mahmood Al Sabti I bought one, I also used it like 5 times, but I no longer have the box. Do you think I can return it like this? without box
I have the instaPot brand basket style air fryer I use it almost daily for about 1 1/2-2 years. It’s still doing perfectly. Just bought this one to do rotisserie chicken …. I’m gonna keep the box handy 😅
Have you tried homemade French fries with it? You should make a review video for homemade fries!

I just got one for Christmas and already love it. I made pork chops and stuffed peppers with it and tonight I’m making Japanese style hamburger steak. I think tomorrow I’m definitely going to have to try the rotisserie option.
Same
I’ve had mine for a month and it stopped working. No lights come on …. Nothing. Very disappointed
Same here...I really enjoyed it..glad I gave an warranty will be sending it back
I returned mine, and I loved it. But the control panel stopped working. That could explain the low price.
Same here in the process of returning
Mines exploded after a month of use I loved it so much 😭😞 be careful with those who have it
We love Naan bread. You can do so much with it. I wonder if you could crack an egg on top of the Naan bread and cook in the Gourmia. I will try that after son unwraps appliance for Christmas. Thank you again, Sir. Keep cooking and making videos please.
Crossed my mind but I didn't dare. Yet, if you make some sort of a nest, so the egg doesn't leak around, it should work.
That looks so good. How is the clean-up after cooking? It looks like you will have to scrub the bottom of machine. Thank you.
The pan on the bottom is the best non stick I've ever seen. There was barely any grease left and a quick flush/wiping with a paper towel is all you need. Now by the very design of this oven, when you open the door, every crumble falls from the mesh baskets on it. I use a small, battery operated kitchen vacuum to remove them.
Thank you, Sir. I just purchased this for Christmas present. The price was great so I thought I would try it. Looking forward to the family unwrapping it. I am subscribed and look forward to your videos. Happy holidays to you and your family.
The vent is in the back of that unit and should be away from the wall
True. Thanks!
Works well. Screen is very intuitive. Touch screen you start at the top and work your way to the bottom and start. Bought this for my Ex. Make a meal for one person. Fish and Fries, Pork chop & fries or Fish & Fries, you can cook together -----Just an example.
You put the food in after it warms up. If you cook something and you need more time you can increase or decrease time with arrows on the sides of the lit LCD screen. When you get used to it it comes easy. I really like the LCD screen, When you start to use it everything goes in order, top to the bottom to set up, no jumping around. This is really great for one person, or for the kids to heat up quick food. I can put fish on one tray and fries on another, cook both at the same time, rotate racks half way through for a total time of 17 to 18 minutes. All fryers vary. It's a perfect meal for me. Tarter sauce or Red Vinegar, salt.
Thanks!
I learned the hard way that you must use a smaller chicken. I had gotten a 6lb chicken and it would not rotate 🙃
Will a 4lb work please?
Same! I decided to just use Cornish hens 😅
