Hi! We're Matt and Nat. We live in Oakland, CA and we're in the process of building out our DIY solar-powered Mercedes Sprinter Van. We're in our thirties and so far we've done most of the things good young people do. We went to college, got good jobs, got a dog (hey, Nut!) and saved our money to buy a house. Twelve years later, the dream of having our own place couldn't be further away...Bay Area real estate is SERIOUS. So, we're taking time off from being "responsible" adults to do whatever the hell we want for a bit. We bought a van so we could be more mobile and more spontaneous.

VAN TOUR | DIY Sprinter Van Conversion 144" WB
Hi everyone, welcome to our first home on wheels! We recently sold this van, and filmed the impromptu van tour for a potential buyer while we were sheltered-in-place during the pandemic. We've never filmed anything like this before, so please excuse the amateur iPhone filming + background noise. The van is now sold, but we're happy to answer any questions you have about our build.

We’re in the middle of changing the layout of our van. I do love the inserts cane/lattice on the units. What do you call this material? Would love to order some for our van. Like the idea of ventilation.

Correct. We don't live in our van full time, so neither are necessary. Clean public bathrooms abound near cities, as do hot springs with showers in more rural areas. Squatting in the woods + pee jars are also good options, and a swim in a beautiful river will refresh the body + soul ; )

Not exactly, but certainly big enough for a single sleeper

Yes a short circuit would be a bummer, but not very dangerous
This van conversion is elegantly functional. Pegboard as a venting option; and the window over the sink, Love it!
Where do you shower?
We don't shower in the van. Since we don't live in it full time, we usually just "bathe" in rivers or at the occasional motel or hot springs on long trips.
love the layout and not really seen it done like that before. I guess you could apply similar to a pop top, although can only seat 2 for driving with seatbelts?
Thank you! It would totally work with a pop top. We had two seatbelts at the sofa, which I think would be fine for taking friends on short trips etc, but it definitely wasn't to code for kids.
Love, love, love this build! Especially the layout and the bed. I read in the comments that you don't have a materials list, but would you be willing to share some tips and tricks for the sectional sofa bed? I'm using your sofa bed as a model for my van build! Thanks so much!

Thanks, Maza ; ) We didn't have a shower in this van, but if you wanted one with this layout, you could turn the closet space into a shower. Or install a solar shower on the roof. Happy trails!

@@nataliewages8717 insurance companies are requiring pictures during the process. Once completed its then a RV. Must have kitchen of course. ( GEICO)

Thank you! <3 We didn't have any moisture issues w/ the wallpaper, but it did scratch a little bit in high traffic places. I think that was mostly bc it was kind of a cheap wallpaper, but we absolutely loved it.

Where are toilet and shower please?
We don't live in the van full time, and we mostly stick to the mountains, so we don't have much of a need for a built-in toilet + shower.
Is it safe to put your water tank and battery system together like that? Just wondering haha awesome build though!
It's probably not ideal, but you gotta make sacrifices in small van spaces. The water tank is super rigid + durable, so theoretically pretty hard to spring a leak. The water filling port is on top of the tank, so we just drop the hose in before we turn it on to fill. Never had an issue.
@@nataliewages8717 sounds good haha I was thinking about doing it like this too because I couldn't figure out another way with the space "issue" but the majorty of the van tours I've watched had them seperate so I thought there was no hope xD thanks!!
