Speech Practice - Where Do We Start
In this video I will give you a step by step process for identifying your first speech sound target to work on in your at home speech practice sessions.

    Thank you for this helpful video. My 5 year old really struggles with this sound as he can't coordinate his tongue. It's so hard as I'm not sure how to help him with this. He has dyspraxia so I think this affects his mouth and tongue movement.

    You use your left arm for the /S/and your right for the vowel. Should the child also use their left for the /S/? Is it relevant that when the child learns to read the S will be to the left of the other letters in these word examples?

      Hi Becky, that's a really great question. I am using the arm gestures purely to bring a visual element for children who are not at the stage of reading and writing or having letter knowledge so that they can see that the sounds are seperate. So I am not too worried which arm I use. But if you want to be targeting the sounds at the same as letter knowledge and reading skills which could be a great idea (especially if your little person is a bit older) then by all means you can use your right hand for the first sound and then left hand for the rest (it will look backwards for you but the right way around for them).
