I am originally from Altoona area now over in Harrisburg area. Yeah I grew to love this bike after owning it 2 years now. Your right clutch control is a major factor when learning to ride.....especially singletrack. Wish I had found woods riding years ago ....so much fun. Thanks for your input I appreciate it. Have you ever been to Rock Run in Patton, PA? That is more the area I grew up in the old coal towns and strip mining back when I was a kid.

I have the 2022 and you speaking of the rod bearing is the first I have heard of this. The detuned maps for me tend to be the harder starts....when I say hard starting I mean it turns over two or three times before it starts....it is not a continuous cranking without start but it is a few seconds of cranking. There are videos of guys who race that have found ways to help them start quicker if it becomes a problem. I am a novice rider at best, so them one or two extra crank overs don't affect me...but they are not a everyday thing for me. My bike 98% of time is an instanst crank start. Sorry I can't give you a better answer for that question, just my own experience. I love this bike now, in the early days being a new rider I questioned my purchase, but I have no regrets now....best of luck and congrats on the new bike. @@pete8149 awsome thank you for replying yea I’m currently gonna be coming off owning a 23 kx250x which is more of a powerful 250, I raced that and then have a ktm125 so I do plan on racing the yz I just wanted to ask because I’ve heard some people the bike just won’t start at all so hearing that is definitely a relief !

@@pete8149 yea man i actually just got off it 10 minutes ago😂, absolutely love it super easy bike to ride fast in the trails I like it much better than my kx, I will say occasionally it had trouble starting in gear but very rarely, I will probably just get a better battery for it but overall I love it !

@urbancow8348 you might already know this but another thing that helps is turn the Idle up "while in gear"....Also if the "hard start in gear "..happens again, try giving your clutch knob a spin I feel when the bike is new that the clutch is a little tight till get worn a little...cause when you hit your button when it was hard starting did it lurch a little like the clutch was dragging?....just what I experienced when mine was new but if you keep clutch adjusted to me that is where the symptoms seem to come from. I am no mechanic....this was my first dirtbike but just things I observed in the beginning when it was new.....it will get better the more you ride it. Just few things that helped in the beginning....and yes I changed out the battery in the first few months ...these few things helped me in the early days. Glad you got your bike and best of luck with your racing.

Night and day. GPX was carburated.....it was fun and was street legal.....but the FX has way more power. The GPX for what it was ....was super reliable...never had any issues the 2 years I had it....suspension was decent and could ride singletrack....but the FX is like a Cadillac compared to it. I paid $3000 for it brand new...was a left over...and I got my 3k of enjoyment out if it. Overall was good experience once the Jetting was figured out. People say "China Junk"....but the GPX was pretty decent machine. MEG braps is riding a new model 2 stroke this year on her hard enduro racing from what I understand...check her videos out.

Hey what part PA you from...originally I am from Western Pa. To answer your question (just keep in mind this was my first dirtbike so I have nothing else to compare it to.) I was skeptical when I first bought the bike. The throttle was so touchy till I got used to it, and I found that with this bike if you can control the throttle and clutch...you will enjoy this bike. I did NOT do a "throttle tamer" or nothing. I just told myself...."learn the bike how it was bought"... and that is what I did. I never installed a flywheel weight or nothing. The bike is stock as it was in 2022 when I bought it. The mapping is awesome...in the beginning I was running what I call "detuned" maps when learning singletrack, but now I run some aggressive maps on singletrack just messing around. I found the mapping was key when I was first learning to ride this bike. I just got worried when I bought it because I honestly didn't know how to ride it and felt like it was to much bike for the trails I was riding. But like anything there is a learning curve and I had the full spectrum of that curve. I can honestly tell you....I don't ever see me selling this bike. I bought a YZ 250 two stroke and I keep it in the garage.....I would rather ride the FX. The suspension once it broke in....I kept adjusting and now have found great settings for Rocks and Tree/Log crossings and am very happy with it. It took time...but I love this bike and my opinion will vary from a more experienced rider who has alot more experiences on other bikes...they may tell you different. I can only say from my experience and I thought I wanted to try a 2 stroke so I bought a used one that needed work......and I will keep working on learning to ride it...but with the FX you twist the throttle and the power is there.....I can't get used to the two stroke loading the flywheel and revving it out after being on a four stroke. It is a new thing to learn....but I always find myself back to the FX.....and now I find I am repeating myself...so I will just say I have NO regrets on buying the FX, am very pleased with this purchase and it Definitely the right bike for me in the end. Whatever you choose to purchase...give yourself time to learn the bike....and only tip I can give you that was a game changer believe it or not...was TIRES.....they made so much a difference riding in the woods. The stock Dunlops had me tentative and hesitant when approaching log/rocks gardens on trail......cause to many slips and loss traction. Tires are a game changer. No it is on the parking lot side. Follow road from parking lot all the way back till you can make option to turn left on a road down the hill or go straight......go straight....it all changed cause they put 4 wheeler/utv trail in the beginning of this trail. I will look up a 📍 location where the singletrack trail begins. You will see a yellow trail marker...but that is some harder rocky stuff....go past and there will be orange trail marker on the right. Will post the location I will go look it up now.

@gmtchsctt 40.5634210, -76.5314899 you can pick up this singletrack and run it clean back and meet up where you want to ride...it is all pretty flows in there also...couple log crossings but there is go arounds if you don't like doing them. I go there alot after work cause so close to me.....Great place to ride has some challenging trails they cut in over the last year.

Yes stock suspension....I am 200 lbs and it was stiff brand new and I just slowly started adjusting to where I am now ....first dirtbike so wouldn't really know what a actual set up suspension would feel like.....but I am fine with the stock right now for woods riding.

This was my first dirtbike.....so I might not be a good person to answer. But I can tell my experience for the last 2 years on it. The throttle is touchy....(alot of people put on a throttle tamer but I never did) just learned the bike stock as it was. Only thing I did was download a detuned map for learning woods riding but now I can ride woods in MX Map..and some other aggressive maps. It is a awesome bike after I learned to ride it in East Coast Rocky trails. I came off sportbikes so I did have motorcycle experience...just not dirtbike experience. I would say with the ability to detune the bike with your phone on the Yamaha App does lead to me to say it could be a good starter bike and as you progress you can change maps easily in seconds and as your skills get better download more power/aggressive maps through the app. Suspension is a little stiff in the beginning but I am 200 lbs and after it got broke in I softened it up and have no issues with it. Also if your riding woods best upgrade you can do right away is put tires on it for the terrain your riding. @@pete8149 in NJ we don’t have inspections for motorcycles. Hopefully it stays that way. PA has inspections from what I’ve heard.

Understood......but unfortunately it was advertised and sold as an "X"......me not knowing alot about dirtbikes cause I am dirtbike Dumb got scammed.....which is my fault. Said it had new top end...flywheel weight and clutch....all was lies had to do a top end, new clutch and threw on a flywheel weight. So all my fault on a bad purchase...but will make the best of it. Thanks for your input....appreciate it.

Yes heavy duty tubes.....want to try the Tubliss but haven't ordered then yet. I change my own tires so don't think I will do mousse bibs just cause they appear to be harder to change tires.

Central Pa.....look up Famous Reading Outdoors they have a website with a few different properties to ride. It is a "pay" membership to ride there but we'll worth it if your in Central PA area.

That is just the stock pipe....some don't like the stock sound heard a few people say it is loud.....but I like the stock sound so I have no intention on changing it.

"JCR Aggressive Map" running it on MAP1 that is why the light is "OUT". When the blue light is "on" it would be Map2 the milder map. But this was MAP1.

@pete8149 thanks! I don't have that map switch on my bike. I have a 2020 WR250. In Canada the 2020 WRs didn't come stock them. That's why I asked. I ordered the GYTR Performance kit and MAP handlebar switch. Have you tried the "mild" setting ?

Yes I use both Maps all the time. When singletrack I was running a more detuned map called "woods 2 map"....but lately I have been running the "hard terrain map" on map 2 for singletrack....this map comes with the bike. You will feel the difference if you load the same map in both map1 and map2....that will give you feel of the difference. If you have Facebook, goto search bar type in "Yamaha YZ 4T Tuners Page"...... ..this is a page that has all kinds of maps you can try. You can message me on Instagram if you have any questions on uploading them or if you want me to help you find any for your terrain you ride in. I originally wanted the wr250f but called few dealers within few hours of where I live and they had no delivery times or any idea when they would have any. So I went and put deposit on the YZ250FX because I would have a delivery date to look forward to. I was to get it in June 2022 ..but got it earlier in February 2022 so it all worked out better for me getting the FX here in PA. I wanted the WR cause I wanted to put Tags/License on it.....but the new WR's here in PA you can't tag them anymore cause how the new models are titled now in PA ....so that is also another reason I went with the FX.

Ahhh I see. I will let you know the WR250F is. I got a 2020 off a buddy with 180kms (4hrs) on it.

Yeah let me know how you like it....to this day I have not seen any of the newer models here in the Surrounding states where I live.....I watched "Ash Sowman" videos on his 2021 wr250f and also "ARiemann1" has some good vids reviews on the Wr250f and that is what initially made me want a WR. I would love to ride one someday.

@@pete8149 I am in Vancouver, BC Canada. My channel has a ton of videos of my jeeping days showing our terrain. We are basically a rain forest beside the ocean, surrounded by mountains, creeks and lakes

The woods 2 map takes alot of the jerky/snappy out of it when running on Map 2. It is just a little more de-tuned than I like now. I ran Woods 2 map a long time and now I have changed to the Hard Terrain Map which is more snappy.....but is what I like now after being on the bike a year now. If you need the parameters for the Woods 2 map I can try to post them here or if have Instagram you can message me there....my IG name is @__pete_b on messenger there can send you the parameters through messenger. There is alot of maps on Facebook group "Yamaha YZ 4T Tuners" Page....that is a good place for different maps. Let me know if I can help with any more info. (+) on timing more HP on top end/less on bottom end (-) on timing less HP top end/more HP on bottom end (+) on fuel SLOWER REVVING (-) on fuel QUICKER revving When looking at map parameters might help out finding a less snappy map.

I, too am new to the dirt bike riding. I come from years of sportbike and built a few bobbers along the way....but dirt riding is definitely different. The dirt does humble you...I have eaten alot of that humble pie over the last year of riding. To answer your question, "yes" the mapping changes the power curve. I honestly have been riding the "Hard Terrain" map and like it the best out of any so far for singletrack. I tried the torquey map in this video and rode it for a few rides but couldn't get the feel for it for the rock garden type singletrack that is in my riding area in PA. So for me it was the Woods 2 map...which I feel is way to "detuned" for my liking ...so I made the change to the "Hard Terrain" map and have found that it suits me the best after riding it a for awhile now and that is the map I am going to stick with. As far as throttle tamer.....I never made the change. I see alot of people do but after time on the bike I learned some what how to manage the throttle....not saying it won't bite me along the way, but I don't want to take away from this bike...I wanted to learn the clutch and throttle so I kept everything stock and honestly like the bike the way it is. I’m in Chicago, but grew up in Philly. Riding in Chicago area is limited to pay areas only. Some riding in Wisconsin but everything is a drive. I just changed my 19 tires from stock to Dunlop MX34’s, I like the change but really am not good enough to tell the difference, but there’s nothing I don’t like so far. What’s that small bag on your handlebars? I keep looking for something to keep my car keys and phone in. I’ve been using a soft case around my waist but am worried that it will smash my phone in a crash. Thanks for the good info. I also just changed my Forma Low, really comfortable boots to Tech 7’s on sale through cycle gear and revzilla. Another UA-cam advice purchase. Still learning.

Yes, small bag is keys and phone. The only issue is make sure if you put one on your bike you face your phone so the screen is facing away from the bars. I have the glass protector over my phone screen and cracked the protector one time when i had it facing the bars....but I have ridden with it for almost a year since then with no issues as long as the screen is facing out. I have crashed many times with it and have no issues either. I got to pay to ride here in PA also. Famous Reading Outdoors.....but they got alot of different properties and a great place to ride. For the Rocky area I ride in I got advice from few riders here in PA and I am running the IRC 33v on the back and Bridgestone M59 on the front and honestly I feel a major difference from stock to these tires in Rocky Singletrack. They told me I would feel a difference and I do....traction is so much different and confident now when hitting rock gardens where as before I would hesitate ....doesn't seem like tire choice would give me confidence but it was a major advance in my riding (don't get me wrong I still suck). My bike came with the Dunlops MX 33 originally. l got one more thing to purchase for this upcoming riding season and that is the Nuetech Tubliss System. I run 12-14 psi front and 8-10 psi in rear with heavy tubes right now....but that is what my next purchase will be for the bike. I still learn each ride also....I ride solo 99% of the time so everything I do riding whether right or wrong is from teaching myself and I enjoy every minute of being out in the woods riding that was a major draw for me to get into woods riding ....the outdoors.

Thanks for the info. If you get a chance, look up bong recreational area in Wisconsin, that is my go to because it’s only 30 minutes away. Also, the Tamaracks trails in conover Wisconsin . These are the best trails I’ve been on so far. I should get a GoPro. Let me know how the tubliss goes, that was on my list too. I looked at IRC tires because of the IRC guy and his videos. I bought three 7”x8ft fence posts that I am trying to get better at crossing because of a crash last year crossing a log. I’ve also been driving the neighborhood looking for telephone poles to “find” on the side of the road. I found a dump with a bunch of them that are pretty old, now how to cut them and move them to my yard.

Wish I had a yard big enough to do that. Go get a GoPro....one thing about it is you can see when your trying new things what you might be doing wrong. I have had many situations where I couldn't tackle an obstacle, but having it recorded you can see what your doing wrong or might need to try. That is what I use it for, I ride solo and it does help for that purpose. Rich Larson has alot of good info, I really like his channel. I will look those places up and take a look at them. Go get that GoPro, I use the "Hero 7 Black"....have couple of them. It has good stabilization and I don't need none of the newer expensive ones...just my opinion.

It does keep alot of debris out of the filter...only thing is when riding in wet I take them out not sure if it would restrict anything because you still got the intake cover to draw air from. Dry and dusty conditions I feel it does help. I am not a racer and newer to dirtbikes so just a newbies perspective.

This is Famous Reading Outdoors. They have properties in a few different locations that you can ride. It requires a membership but it is year round access. They have website you can look at. I am not sure of what part of state you live but this is in Pottsville, PA area.

All videos are in Pennsylvania at Famous Reading Outdoors they have 6 or 7 different properties you can ride on as a member.

Appreciate the info. I haven't installed a Rekluse and haven't did a flywheel weight either. I appreciate everyone's input...but I figure if I am going to learn to ride offroad might as well keep everything how I bought it. Also haven't done the throttle tamer either.....I thought about them all but came to conclusion that like you said .."learn throttle control and learn clutch control" .... I have messed with some more detuned maps and stuff. Appreciate the input.

I've only ridden Four of there properties....Still want to ride Ashland North and South....Locust Gap. Few years ago they offered day passes, but as of now the only way to ride FRO is to become a member which is a one year membership. Thanks for checking out the video.

Thank you for taking the time to write a detailed reply I really appreciate it. Alot of good info in this response. I always downshift thinking I will bog the bike down to much but am going to try to learn to use the clutch more. I am not a racer...never will have the skill or speed to do so....got into riding later in life here but just would like to be able to ride a steady decent pace while being able to hit obstacles (logs/rocks) on the fly. Lot to learn yet and am enjoying the slow process of learning. Thanks again for the info.

I entered my first dirtbike race just 5 years ago when I was 48. I currently race in the 50B class. It's been a long intense awesome journey. I love to trail ride and enter dual-sport events as well but knowbody wanted to ride as much or as fast as I did so racing was the answer for me. @@pete8149

I stuck with tubes cause I have changed all my sportbike tires myself for years.....so didn't want to try to fight putting mousses on. Will look into tublis....looks like I could mount them myself. Thanks for the info....greatly appreciated.

@@pete8149 dude it’s so easy to install. Just watch the video and follow it step by step. Use a proper sealant and you are good to go. I have never changed a tire/tube before doing tubliss for the first time and it did it first try no problems. People like to say that putting tublis on it hard but it’s not it’s just a different way of installation

@@pete8149 nice man welcome to the dark side, I mean the best side! Just remember that your psi you run depends on how stiff your side wall is. So a tire like Shinko 525 should be ran from 5-6 psi. While a tire with a harder side wall (good example is irc ve33s) can be run down to 3. I mean hell I have even seen a video of people torture testing tublis with 0 psi and the whole system was completely fine after. It really is an amazing product, I’ve ran everything from hd ultra duty tubes, mouses, and tublis. I always go to back to tublis one way for another.

This is center of FRO property where it is at.... locals hunt in there but I too wonder why it is on the trail....I know where the deer are at on the property but that isn't the area they frequent. So may be Fro...but it is way obvious that is why don't think it is a hunter or a land owner who would be way off there property to put it there.

I didn't ride there since April. When I taped this section two weeks ago I did find one new trail. I am going to ride it tomorrow wanted to today but all the rain changed that. Also not sure if you were there when they added the yellow tagged trail up where the water comes out of the old mine? Other than that I covered top ...bottom and across the road and doesn't look like anyone riding there much ...so over grown across the road and other than one trail I was never on is the only thing I noticed.

@@pete8149 damn I was kinda of hoping fro would do some Maintence on that place. They said they opened it because of coal hill and flats was closed but tower city is barely rideable with all the overgrown shit. It’s sad how we pay then 225 a year and they still can’t maintain trails. I wish fro would take notes from aoaa because aoaa is very well maintained

@coalcountryrider I carry hand saw with me and I cut two down trees two weeks ago. There is still 3 down across the road that need cut I was tired after cutting the other ones and just getting back to riding. Will probably end up over there tomorrow and cut them.
