142km hiking the Cape to Cape track in 4.5 days
8 of us set out to hike the 135+ km track from Cape Leeuwin to Cape Naturaliste Lighthouses on the western coast of Australia. We lost a few to injury but picked up some more friends along the way, ending up with 13 on the last day.
4.5 days, 4 nights on the trail. We stayed in two caravan parks and two free camps.
Day 1 Cape Leeuwin to Hamlin Bay 31km
Day 2 Hamlin Bay to Prevelly 40km
Day 3 Prevelly to Moses Rock camp site 26km
Day 4 Moses Rock to Mt Duckworth camp site 25km
Day 5 Moses Rock to Cape Naturaliste 10km
My first ever multi day hike and it was an amazing experience. The terrain is tough and the views are stunning. 10/10 recommend (but would recommend taking at least one more day 😂)

In August 2023 the Gregory Family (and two De Ponte's) returned to Africa for our first visit to Botswana and the Okavango Delta. Transcend ultra is a 65km ultra race through the hills of the Avon Valley, north east of Perth on Noongar Boodjar. This event can be run in relay teams of 2 to 5. Did it for ten years, to many rules and power trippin ego maniacs with 5 minutes experience wrecked it. Was a good number once. Argyle was orsom.
Congratulations. Looking at doing this in May. Loved hearing your comment “Look as though you are enjoying yourselves” 😂. Thinking of doing it as a 6 day hike at the moment. Your comments seem to back this idea up. Were you fine getting showers at the caravan parks? Transport - did you drive to start and finish and have a car at both ends or use busses? 6 days is definitely a better idea, it can be done in less in a time crunch but you get less time to enjoy the trail. Availability of showers and facilities were great. Depending on the time of year you will need to book in advance though. And the bush camps were lovely, definitely recommend at least one or two completely off grid camps, it's so peaceful. The mines have caused more heartache than any amount of material wealth can compensate for. Grew up near coal mines, everyone is a miner in my family. You all should feel shame and embarrassment for giving your time and energy to the corrupt crappy companies that you get money from.
I'm sorry to hear that. It's tempting to give it all away and live in a van, but most of us have fully bought in to the 'Dream' I guess. Take care of yourself ❤️
Have. Fun. Staying. Poor. It's no different than working for ANY company, they do not care about you. Have a mercenary attitude and use them for your own benefit of improving things for yourself. Outside of mining the worst place to work is any place that says they're family and when you join, you become family..again..they don't give a shit about you. So it's the lessor of two evils, go FIFO for a bit to earn dollars, or work longer for someone else in the city.

What type of work were you doing? what site was it?
Utilities so bus driving and assorted utilities around camp like emptying bins etc. Easy work!

When the place has good food, makes all the difference. I went to a very remote place in Indonesia (not really FIFO) once, they had their own pharmacy fully stocked with a pharmacist for virtually any ailment, pretty wild and served fresh Sumatran food. Best food was in Karratha at one place, massive kitchens / cafeteria, top-notch, and a full bar, the accomodation was just your regular donga scenario, went there with Rio.

Sure, but training for ultra distances requires some sacrifice, and so does shift work, so it can be tough!

FIFO people really don't understand your hourly rate is super low. You're literally working 24 hours Not 12 hours. Any time you arent free from work related stuff you're actually still working.
Then think about people who earn even half of your salary, but because you earn double for them life is way too expensive...
Bit of a generalisation there mate. I'm not on Salary & my hourly rate is nearly double of my last job. Been working in QLD mines for 8 months & I've had enough though. Work culture here is so backwards. Everyone out for themselves & they will throw the contractors under a bus to save themselves in the blink of an eye. I struggle to sleep out here & miss my own bed so much. You get more days off but my friends & family are at work most the time & I'm that drained from the swing I don't do much really. This is only my experience, alot of people do love it. I just think in the end money isn't everything.
Yearly wage..and it's better than most with free food...when I was in my 20's I would of worked for the food alone.. because I didn't have to pay for it
@emp731 yeah the money you save on food, electricity bill at home becomes alot lower, fuel driving to & from work. It all adds up as alot of extra savings too.

i was fortunate and got to do FIFO on the tool for 3 years, respect to all the boys and girls who are their away from family and grinding everyday.(and middle finger to those holiday makers who don't know what they are doing there and putting us in risks and to those labour hires who hire them and fly them out)

Couldnt of said it better myself, i cant say from personal experience but im told Jail food is much better haha...+10 years of working away in the mines and i can say with out a doubt in my mind that it was an experience and a half, some bloody good mates made but NEVER will i do it again, lifes far to short to be away from mates n fam for that long-they were meant to be the best years of my life
