    A lot of "professional welders" (at least according to their keyboard skill) hates pulses. They think you should be able to weld a razor blade without any purge or backing, using foot pedals and that's it.

    excellent, I was searching for an instruction I can use for welding cracks of bandsaw, and your video is the most similar situation I could find, thanks

    • @taiwanluthiers
      @taiwanluthiers 6 місяців тому

      If your blade is cracking, welding isn't going to fix anything. They cracked because of metal fatigue, often due to the wheel being too small and the blade reaching the end of their life. This is why if you have a bandsaw, get as big a wheel as possible, or if not possible, run them at slower speeds. Metal cutting bandsaw has very small wheel, but that's ok because they are also running very slowly. Wood bandsaw needs huge wheels or else your blade will break all the time. In fact if anything the welding will weaken the blade and it will break about 1/16th inch from the weld.

    that is 0.014 inch = 0.35mm thichness ,you have heat sink , so how can you weld thin tube ,round joint ? can not put heat sink on tube .. i have seen guys weld 0.28mm thick stainless tubing , no pulse no foot pedal no heat sink , try that so you know how good you are

    Funny how I happen upon videos that remind me of my life. I'm 60, when I was a kid. (from 5 years old to 17) I'd work at my dads muffler shop in westminster California. "Reds Muffler and welding" Red, was a full blooded Icelandic dude who was an ex drag racer who owned records at the Famous Lyons Drag strip and yes he took me there as a kid. He decided he wanted to start making "straps" or "Hangers" as they are called. They would have one big hole in them with two smaller holes. The big hole matched up to a male and female "grommet" so when bolted on the frame or sometimes floorboard the would be able to move as all hangers need to do. The smaller holes were originally for clamps to bolt on but almost were never used like that. Someone installing a system would just weld the pipes directly to the hanger. At 16 he would sell glasspacks for $32 a pair installed if there was nothing else needed. He would by unpainted "bluetone glasspacks" for $0.75 per muffler and paint them to make money on that price. Of course tailpipes and chrome tips were extra and or anything that was needed besides cutting the old mufflers off and installing the new ones. Anyway.... He bought a 20 ton punch press. I think he got it for a couple hundred bucks. It was taller than him with a massive flywheel and it mad a clicking sound.... My dad designed a die that would cut the big hole and the two small holes at the same time in one stroke. We measured them out and used a pair of vice grips as the stop so we could make different sizes So at 12 years old I was operating that massive beast when there were breaks between sweeping up or doing other shop helper types of slave work...lol Eventually he found a 4 ton press for pennies on the dollar and put it in our garage. He made a little triangle shaped grove for a tool that looked like a chisel. I would put the end of the hanger in it and push the pedal and boom. A 90 degree angle. Didn't matter how long the hanger was, there were no changes needed. Now that one was a lot more dangerous. I'd finish dinner and go into the garage and start working. It was about 15 feet from the dinner table. :) Good times. My step dad Red made me who I am. Taught me to figure shit out by example. Thanks for the memory stimulator.

    These LS manifolds are not cast iron, its a steel alloy. No preheating is needed and pretty much any filler rod works, done quite a few for over a decade, just burned the SS vband on with some stainless rod... done in 10 min... last forever. No different than welding 2 steel plates together.

    • @Jarrettsville_Garage
      @Jarrettsville_Garage 2 місяці тому

      It still doesn’t technically matter. You’re still more likely to crack it because it’s a cast molding and not carbon. Cast is still more brittle regardless if it’s iron or carbon or mild steel. The way he did it is probably still more effective then doing it cold. But if either way works it doesn’t really matter

    • @green461
      @green461 2 місяці тому

      @@Jarrettsville_Garage cast is the process which its formed, has nothing to do with what its made of. This is not iron, nor cast iron. Its a steel alloy, how it was formed has nothing to do with how its welded. Cast, rolled, forged, extruded...etc.. Carbon is an element, steel is an alloy of iron and carbon, these manifolds are steel. They can be welded as steel. The "cast" has absolutely nothing to do with anything.

    • @Jarrettsville_Garage
      @Jarrettsville_Garage 2 місяці тому

      @@green461 doesn’t change the fact that you should still pre heat considering your welding a different compound because since it’s cast it’s still subject to crack considering cast cools faster then regular mild or carbon steel does. Letting it cool slowly prevents that

    • @green461
      @green461 2 місяці тому

      @@Jarrettsville_Garage You are not understanding, cast steel is not a different metal than forged steel, rolled steel, extruded, or any steel, casting is just the process used to form it....they pour it into a cast. Cast is not a metal. Steel is steel. You are thinking cast iron, its not iron. Cast steel is not cast iron. all steel is carbon steel, carbon is what makes iron turn into steel, high, low, variances, you can cast it all and its no different than any other steel.

    • @Jarrettsville_Garage
      @Jarrettsville_Garage 2 місяці тому

      @@green461 it actually is different. It’s still made and cools differently then regular rolled carbon steel or mild steel. It’s more porous and has different properties then mild steel which make it more brittle.
