He was 8th Dan in The All Japan Karate Do Seiwakai & 7th Dan in The Japan Karate Federation Gojukai. In the 60s & 70s he did 11 years of Judo, getting a Black Belt. During his teens he did boxing.
Paul was referred to as "Shihan" in the dojo & holds a Menkyo Licence of Kyoshi (teacher of teachers) JKF GojuKai. He trained, fought & taught in 25 countries. He was the European Vice-Technical Director for JKF Gojukai & a senior European Examiner. Classes are now led by Sensei Joe Bennett and Sensei Hkanhpa Sadan.

Esto es genial, amo este tipo de karate

This is the IOGKF European championship in Moulhouse, not world championship… Best regards
Суета и мало техники
Guys if it works use it great video
Is it the James ROUSSEAU period for England goju ryu ?
Muy joven el Maestro. Interesante. Gracias por compartir.
Simple, to the point and practical. Very nice!
is that shihan paul
We all miss Sensei Coleman. God bless!
Yes we do!
They're absolutely trash. I've seen beginners in my mauy thai gym have better technique than these "black belts"
Please do post videos of your Muay Thai beginners. Tatsuo Nakamura Sensei was a Kyokushin champion fighter.
I've seen Kyokushin but I have no idea what it has to do with karate.
Yep. Completely agree, strangeone. Dreadful technique.
@@oxfordkarateacademy the older Japanese man is mediocre, but the other black belt steals the show for looking like a completely untrained fighter
Yeah. Different style of karate... Wave your arms all over the place as you kick.
He is still so strong and flexible! Osu!
Please show him the video if you see him as I am not sure if he knows it exists! It was a wonder to see it. I love his relaxed power here.
I am Tatsuo Nakamura and I used to be BKK's Inter National karate instructer from Tokyo in 1977and1978. I don't know who found this video, but quite great surprised memory of myself. Also this vido took by somebody must be about 30 years ago or less I guess. Osu!
@@tatsuonakamura2891 Sensei! So pleased to see you here - never expected this! It is Roxanne here. Shihan Paul had this video in a box of old VHS and mini DVDs we have had converted, as we discussed before he went into the hospice.I so loved seeing your incredible relaxed power and flexibility - very inspiring!!
They key to this is not being scard to take a hit inorder to get a good inside position. Attackers attack step in, close the distance. Your going to get hit there is no way around that
Great but I'm not sure I'd be showing the little white belt kid this. It's beyond them at this stage.
El otro te queda mirando
Se nota que no pisaste un dojo en tu vida!
Proper sparring 😊
lmao
Disgusting, no wonder the BJJ guys trash you people.
🙄
Miss you Shihan.
Sensei what? lol
shhhhh, seguí jugando a las muñecas!
If your bored there's, fishing, 🐟 swimming 🏊♀️, bicycling 🚲, golfing ⛳️, hiking 🚶♀️ etc, etc.
I was at the seminar and I found him spellbinding. I would recommend reading though if you don’t like karate.
mystical
great bullshido demonstration
We’d love to see some of the kumite drills you use for teaching your students - please do feel free to post on your channel so we can learn from you! That’s if you actually train, of course.
@@oxfordkarateacademy Oh fuck no, why would I or anyone in their right mind train this bullshido? What for? For bullshit presentation and competition that are make believe? There are so many actually working martial arts/combat sports. There is literally everything wrong with the move that is bullshitted in the video. First, you are moving yeah? Well so does your opponent. And I dont know about this type of bullshido, but in the two sports I am familiar with (aka trained for at least couple years), just the thought of trying to grab opponents forearm while he is in a guard is gonna get punished like fuck. So okay, grabbing a moving targets arm and somehow he is a fucking crash test dummy and does not punish you and does not do anything against the first part. Sure, now step two, he gets pulled in one way and is not fast enough to adjust or counteract his stance with a sidestep, you have chosen probably the worst type of attack - a jab with the hand you are grabbing him with. So now you are striking without that much power, you are risking he instinctively guards and deflects with his other hand, his shoulder of the grabbed hand or simply ducks, bobs or slips out of the punch. Also if you manage to pull him too hard then you will just miss completely or just graze him. I have no idea what retarded rules the competition in this nonsense has, if it is taekwwondo scoring or whatnot, but this technique is just.
You talk a lot of shit for someone with nothing to show🤣 luckily for you I know the guy in the video and he’d happily be up for a friendly spar at his local boxing club, karate club or you might even be lucky enough to catch him at the pub. Also he really appreciated the long useless comment regarding the techniques. He’s taken it onboard and will hopefully do better next time ❤️
Creating angles is bullshit?? You're taught about creating angles in any combat sport.
The Future 🥋🔥
Yes he is!
Wow! A blast from the past. So pleased to see this...
Bullshit arts.
Aiii
That pause just before the foot stamp, outrageously awesome IMHO. Im borrowing that for my own Kata as a personal tribute to our beloved Shihan.
It is awesome but also remember elegance not elephants!
Just as I’d like to remember you Shihan…hammering the makiwara in the place you loved so much. RIP mate.
Brilliant, isn’t it? I just love this video. Love also the discussions on Facebook about the makiwaras he broke. Do you remember when he got his 8th Dan and some troll on Facebook (the same guy who had criticised an EGKF seminar for not being a makiwara seminar) zoomed in on his hands and said they were too smooth for an 8th Dan, clearly no makiwara training? Well here’s fantastic evidence of makiwara training. RIP Shihan.
Who's he striking at? Seagulls and Keebler elves?
He is well respected and honoured worldwide so with all due respect I’m sure your opinion has no effect. He has competed in bare knuckle knockdown and the people that know him know that he can certainly handle himself very well in real life situations so don’t judge a book by its cover. When you don’t know him or anything about his experience. There is nothing to prove to anyone so your entitled to your opinion😊 We lost him last year to cancer which is why we are posting footage of him in his prime to honour and respect him.
@trainingwithaaroncoleman9529 there will always be those who don’t like kata, not really worth engaging with them on the detail of the kata. It looks awesome to me. What I did find interesting is how his performance of this kata changed between this performance in 1994 and 2023. I’m not clear how much that is to do with the change of association or other factors as we now do it much less stampily (is that a word?) and the strikes at the end much more vertically over the top of each other, also the timing is slightly different.
@@oxfordkarateacademyyour right it’s not even worth engaging just let people have their opinions, hundreds of people across the world respect and honour him there is nothing more to say or prove 😊
@trainingwithaaroncoleman9529 exactly that, your dad is a legend and we’re posting these videos because of how useful they are for the many people still interested in his teachings today and in future.
People are really showing there intelligence in this comment section! It’s KATA. Not KUMITE🤣🤣🤣if you wanna comment about fighting, comment on a fighting video 👍
Be no good in a street fight
🙄
Yeah tell Steven Thompson that big man.
@@oxfordkarateacademythere’s always 1 isn’t there who has nothing better to do than troll comment on UA-cam videos🥱 there are many people who can confirm my father being very effective in real life situations over the years we do not need to answer anybody or prove anything😊
Perhaps these commenters would like to post some of their material so we can see how they compare? 😂
No one will ever compare to this man! Irikumi bare knuckle knockdown champion (several years running). 30 years door work, black belt judo, boxing, 8th Dan goju ryu. You probably wouldn’t be able to get a response from the people he’s fought in the street because they can’t remember fuck all. It’s funny people seeing these UFC stars thinking they’re the dogs… Stephen Thompson couldn’t tie Paul Coleman’s belt!
I remember now… the other referee was Kato Tomoyuki with Bakkies, Terauchi and Dennis May @ 1:51
Thank you - that’s so useful to know. I had identified Bakkies from somewhere else but not the others.
Thank you very much for sharing this video. I trained many times with Sensei Paul , enjoyed his company at courses. I first met sensei Paul in 1979 at pool in Dorset at the iogkf gassuku. Many thanks Tony asmith
0:47 OK. who farted?
Oss!
Great stories guys. Paul loved them. ❤
SEIPAI…My favourite Kata. Or as we always joked ‘Say Pie!’ 😂Thanks Shihan Paul for teaching me all. ❤
Seipai is a beautiful kata - I think Shihan performed this really well although there don’t seem to be many videos of him performing it. Certainly there are more of him doing Shisochin.
RIP Paul...❤
Thanks for finding this video! made me very happy.
It’s awesome!
I see Sensei Bakkies, Terauchi, Dennis May and the Japanese Sensei who was in the BBC’s Way of the Warrior training at the Higaonna Dojo.
Excellen way to practise mawashi geri!
Very good done!
Great video!
Wonderful memories. I had no idea this video existed. Great to see Shihan Paul teaching in his inimitable way. He always held his students to a high standard and lead by example. I'll always be grateful for his guidance and miss him greatly.
Ah I wondered if you might remember the circumstances in which the video was taken. I was so excited when I saw it. You look very young in it!
@@oxfordkarateacademy the video was taken 6 months before I left for Okinawa. My training partner in the video is Duncan.
Karate sucks. Kinda hard to do the cutesy little kicks and punches when balled up on the ground in a triangle choke or bent armbar.
Please do post some of your own fights so we can marvel at these. Our Senseis do teach arm bars and triangle chokes but this is a video of iri kumi.
There’s karate fighters that are in the cage and do very well… Karate incorporates chokes, locks, throws and more, this video is iri kumi which is stand up continuous fighting. Feel free to share videos of your fights, knowledge and experience:)
Thank you for the response 🙏
Very good! I am your new subscriber. Greetings from Poland
Where in Poland are you based? We love trips to Poland!!!
I live in Gawrych Ruda that is about 10 kilometers from Suwałki and about 30 from Lithuanian's border.
I cant see Naha here! Sorry!!!
Please would you be able to post a video of your version as it would be useful to compare and see the Naha in yours? 🙏
