I don't have a source, but Legoland pop badges and bricks don't care about anything. They don't seem to use the most up to date version or real designs. They just go with whatever vibe. Or maybe Google and use whatever they find.

My first clones I customized were the shock troopers. Just adding more striping on the helmets and legs, Im glad I never went over board with my other clones.
