hi! one question, how do you get the holder disk?? im trying to grow an avocado, and i need the tray to hold it up! edit 1 (please respond in 3-4 days or less!)
Hello! We sell the propagation discs on our website. The one in the video is our upcycled stone disc and linked in the video description. But you can also make your own or use toothpicks - a very popular way to hold the seed up over water.
i will consider buying one then! thank you so much!
thanks for all ideas
Thanks for watching 💚
the ONLY way anyone will be able to keep high humidity requiring plants in a low humidity area in a house, NOT a cabinet, is w/ a humidifier. a simple, once a week cleaning that takes all of 10-15 minutes is all one needs. no pebble tray, or any other 'moisture wicking/evaporating' medium, will ever come close. try maintaining a 60-70% RH in one room where the outside RH averages less than 15% during the day. simply cannot be done w/ 'pebble trays' or any other such nonsense. i've done houseplants both ways. nothing comes close to a humidifier. nothing. giving advice about how to up RH in an already humid state/area is a guarantee for bad advice. if you lived in the west, you'd be singing humidifier praises all day long. otherwise-this is just another one of countless videos giving bad advice based solely on opinion, and personal prefs, not facts. (or what actually, really, works). i've got a humidifier in each of my plant areas/rooms. the results were a game changer. no health issues, no mold, no grungy humidifier tanks. and no more leaves 'sticking' when unfurling. and insane growth rates.... but clever way to pimp yer biz and sell your (silly, mostly) products.......GO BUY A SIMPLE HUMIDIFIER FOLKS. THEY'RE A GAME CHANGER FOR PLANTS ON EVERY LEVEL.... (i've watched too many vids like this on pebble trays and other kaka. it's NOT a good or efficient method. maybe it's a good method for selling silly/useless stuff, but that's about it).
Hi there - always appreciate feedback. I’m not sure if you watched the full video, as it explains different humidity methods and the actual range of humidity levels each method can add to your space, and yes some are very small percentages and yes there are a large range of variables that will impact your RH. The point of the video is to share alternative methods for adding humidity to a space, some people might only need a little boost of humidity, so some of these methods could work for them. If you watch the video at 30:45 “THOUGHTS ON HUMIDIFIERS” I do share my opinion on humidifiers and actually do recommend them if it fits your needs. I am not against humidifiers, I am against misting, but currently do not do use either in my own home. Hope this clarifies any confusion. 💚
@@RT1home any and all methods OTHER THAN upping the ambient/surrounding air to a CONSISTENT level of 50-60% or higher w/a humidifier is just going to subject plants to a constantly changing micro environment. which literally forces the plant to constantly try and readjust. causes actual physical stress/damage. NOT good for the plants. the end. pebble tray and everything else are just bad practices that need to die. humidifiers for small rooms can be had for about 30 bux. largers rooms for about 80, etc. they're efficient, quiet, and do the job extremely well and hassle free. anyone who wants to go a different route, afaic, needs to get their head examined, if they're looking for actual tangible, viewable results; but g'luck w/ your business endeavor, which is the point of your video, no ? ;)
@@anonablous We're all entitled to our own opinions, I think it's a bit extreme to say there is only one way to do something. Also, I don't agree that adding something like a pebble tray to your plants causes "physical stress/damage", especially since (as you stated previously), they do not raise the humidity levels that much (and as I state in the video). Again, as shared in the video, some of these methods can be used more for decorative purposes. But some of the methods - such as using a cloche, greenhouse cabinet/terrarium - do create a consistent and large amount of humidity without the use of a humidifier. I have measured the humidity levels of my own plants in my own home using these methods. It might not be the same for you, and that's ok.
@@RT1home i'm not referring to cloches or terrariums/cabinets. i'm referring only to an 'open' room setting. using 'pebble tray' w/ 'humidity' in any sense of being actually helpful for plants in an ambient room setting is simply false, and demonstrably so, and yeah, a constantly changing micro environment of low humidity right next to a plant can throw it off. a lot of these plants we keep *evolved* a physiology suited for *ninety* percent and even higher humidity. we barely do them a favor at 70% ;).that they can adapt at all to our houses is a testament to them, not us, heh. pebble trays ? might up the immediate space humidity by 5% or so on a good day, when the outside isn't bone dry, right near the plant's bottom, while up top it's already in relatively drier air. plants don't deal in what you feel is an opinion. they deal in actual physical properties of things, and how to exploit those things to grow/reproduce..and while the growth rates we see might impress us, it's usually a pale comparison to what they achieve when things like high humidity are reached/kept. the difference is night/day. my real point though, as stated in an earlier post, is that this video is more about hawking your wares than offering any really valuable info relevant to your friggin' title. you could at least be honest about that......i'm done here. success in all your endeavors , attractive or effective :)
@@anonablous appreciate the additional feedback!
I've been flirting with doing something like this. The one you did fits right in with the decor of the house. Nice job! Hmmmm......now you have me thinking again LOL
thank you! It's been a labor of love, I've been meaning to post a video on the process of creating and setting it up. I think it's a lot more work than buying one of the IKEA cabinets, but those felt a bit too modern for our home. 💚
I would like to know if you need to cut it back as it is about a foot tall with about 5 little leaves on it. I do see something leaves around the middle of the stem. Thank you
Hi! I’ve really been meaning to do an avocado pruning video on this soon as it is such a common question. It is. completely optional to cut the stem, and there are different methods for cutting. You can cut just above a node to encourage branching. You can also not cut at all and you will have a more lanky Avocado stem. Hope that helps! 🥑
I'm currently trying to sprout two in a terrarium. I couldn't believe the price of an avocado, In pennsylvania.😢
@@nicholaspiscitelli7685if you have a Costco nearby, they sell bags of avocados that are a lot more affordable than a grocery store
@@RT1home l live 30 miles from anywhere. 🤫
Why peel the dark shell off of it?
It is optional to peel/remove the skin from the seed. But we have found that the seed typically germinates faster when the skin is removed. 🥑
@@RT1home I thought it needed that nutrition. That's why it's there.
@@nicholaspiscitelli7685 my understanding is that it’s just the seed cover and it helps keep in hydration. But if you are growing in water, I’m not sure it makes a difference. In my experience, the seeds germinate faster when the skin / seed cover is removed. I have grown both ways. What nutrition does it provide?
@@RT1home That is what I was wondering. I remember when I was a child in floridai've seen him growing right on the ground out of the rodded avagado.
Нащо ти такий великий стакан, можно і без шпикачок, шкурку можна не знімати, вона як парничок для кістки, і геть не заважає для пробудження кореню, це. Спосіб теж гарний з замочуванням, скоріше проростає і тепло

Wow it really worked when I tried it

Do I change the water
@@BobaTea-b2h yes about once a week or whenever the water starts to get murky or smelly. We have a more detailed full length video here and changing the water info is mentioned at 07:08 ua-cam.com/video/XRn0QuwuJmM/v-deo.htmlsi=eON4dbGkICJJYBKx
I don’t understand the Avacado thing.
Which avocado thing?
pebble trays are one of the oldest bad plant myths that just won't die. they don't do squat, jack, bupkes for humidity levels or increasing them appreciably over the ambient RH conditions in any open environment. (non small enclosured space). in an aquarium/terrarium, maybe. for aroids and other humidity loving plants, they're simply nonsense. get a humidifier or three and watch a whole different world unfold w/ your plants. here the RH is around 10-15% during the day, on avg.. there's only one way to get a room up to 60% RH or thereabouts, and that's w/ a humidifier. period. end of story :)
Appreciate your feedback. However, Pebble trays are not a myth, as mentioned in the video they can provide a small increase to humidity levels(roughly 5%-15%). Again, this is an estimate depending an a lot of different variables. I personally have measured an increase in humidity when using multiple humidity trays in my home. If you need to drastically raise the humidity level by 50%, yes you definitely need to use a humidifier.
Let's be honest, it will only increase the humidity by 2-3% percent. Definitely not 15% as you mentioned. And if the room is not small it might not do anything really.
Hello! Appreciate the feedback. The approximate range stated in the video is 5%-15% increase which again depends on many variables. This range is based off of my own personal research as well as testing the humidity levels of my own humidity trays in my home.
She doesn't say what the best soil is , or how deep to plant the❤ seed... Also my seeds always have a green tinge to the water along with this green clingy fluff , it doesn't appear to be inhibiting the growth or the seed looks like it's feeding it. I've just added fresh water when water got low ...what do you say ?
Hello - great questions! I have a link to the specific soil we used in the video description. But you can use any loose, well draining soil mix. If planting in soil, you will want to fertilize a few times a year when the tree is still young. I plant the seed so the top half is sitting above the Soil, but if your seed is damaged or shriveled you can just leave the top inch or so exposed. As for the green tinge, if the seed is green that is ok, but if there is green fluff, it is likely mold. I would gently clean the seed with a mild soap and water and same for the glass you keep the water in and replace with fresh water after cleaned. Let me know if that helps!
Avocados need well draining soil. I mixing in cactus soil with regular potting soil… works great
@@kellygoldsberry4302 thanks for sharing! 💚🥑
I have read on multiple sources to snip the avacado stem down to 2 inches after it reaches 6-8 inches in height. Apparently it encourages branching, but I'm struggling to butcher my little baby 😅
Hello! I’ve been meaning to do an avocado pruning video (soon!). It is optional to cut the stem, and there are different methods for cutting. You can cut just above a node to encourage branching. You can also not cut at all and you will have a more lanky Avocado stem. Hope that helps! 🥑 🌱

Great trees for bonsais
yes! 💚
Where is the best spot to plant the tree?
Hello! Are you planting the tree outdoors in the ground?
Does the seed needs sunlight after placing in the glass?
Yes. If the Avocado seed is already sprouted you should place in a sunny location as Avocado plants love sun.
No one goes in depth like this! It's a very good video. I have had bacteria issues with my seeds.
thanks so much! Please reach out if you have any questions.
My roots have turned black. Is this normal or what should I do? Thanks
Are the roots slimey and breaking up in the water? If so, they could be rotten. You might be able to salvage them if you trim off the bad roots and put in fresh water. If not, you might need to start propagating a new Avocado seed 🥑
How much sunshine is needed
Avocado plants need full sun - at least 6 hours of direct sunlight. 🌞
Thank you for the video! Is there something I can add to the water in the tray that will keep it from getting scummy? Vinegar, maybe? Mine looks stagnant. I used distilled water.
Hello! That's a great question. Personally, I have never added anything to the water. But I would recommend cleaning the tray and rocks with soap and water periodically, as well as replacing with fresh water to prevent mold, etc from building up. I will add this to the "further steps" in the blog post - thank you!
I planted it, but after a while the tips of the leaves turned black😢
the tips turned black or is it more dark brown? What kind of soil did you use? How much sun is the plant receiving? And how often are you watering it?
@@RT1home yes the tips turned black, put it in the water and I put it in the house ,,home lighting and sunlight from the window
@@RT1home I’m sorry my English is weak
@@raghdahgh1142 oh ok it's still in water. It's hard to say exactly, but you could try changing a few different things to see if it helps. It could be receiving too much sun if it looks like the leaves are burnt. Or, it could be too dry in your home, you might need to place it near a humidifier. Lastly, it could be a nutrient deficiency, you could try planting it in soil and adding some compost or fertilizer.
Love your video. Thank you! How often do you add water to the tray?
Thank you for the kind words! Water frequency really varies depending on your environment. In my home, I probably add water about once a week or so. But you just need to keep an eye on the water levels. If the temperature is warmer or more dry, you will need to add water more often. Hope this helps!
If my Avocado is sprouting in soil , should I transfer back to just water ? Thanks 🙏
Hello! It is completely up to you if you want to grow your avocado plant in water or soil. Typically, avocado plants will grow much faster and bigger in soil, as you are able to provide more nutrients. But if you prefer the look of the plant growing in water, you can do that too!
Could I use tooth picks instead of a propagation disk?
hello! You can use toothpicks, just be careful not to damage or break the seed in half when you are inserting the toothpicks.
I've always grown mine that way..no problem at all...
You can't grow it if it is already cut in half right?
Hello! Do you mean your avocado seed split in half and you have both sides? If it is split, you can try to wrap them together with wet paper and still try or try planting both halves together directly in soil. It’s worth a shot 😉
@@RT1home thanks😊
I had no idea you could do this, i have never been tempted by snake plants but now i suddenly want one
so glad we convinced you! Keep us posted if you do end up getting one and braiding it ☺
Do I ever remove the braid once it is done? Will my plant outgrow it or does this stunt it’s growth?
Hello! You can remove the braid at any time - it will likely leave kinks in the plant if it has been braided for a long time. Your braided snake plant will continue to grow as long as the plant is still receiving adequate light and water. Snake plants grow fairly slowly, but as it grows you can continue the braid or remove the braid entirely. Hope this helps!
I also forgot to mention, braiding the snake plant should not stunt its growth. The only thing that could stunt growth is not receiving proper sun and water or making the ties too tight could hurt or damage the plant.
Interesting for real 😊
thanks! 💚
What are best pebbles to use?
It's completely up to you and your preference! I am using polished pebbles that are approximately 1/2" in diameter - link is in the video description. But you can use larger, smaller, unpolished, found rocks, etc. If you are adding pebbles to similar sized vessels as the ones I am using in the video (drinking glass, 4" plant pot, and 6" diameter tray), I would not use any pebbles that are much larger than an 1" or they just won't fit. Hope that helps!
Thanks for the feedback
Your concoction directions are a bit vague. You said 50% water and 50% rubbing alcohol. Can you be more specific on the amount you're using or at least the size of your spray bottle, if you're adding the contents directly to the bottle? Thank you.
Hello! Great question and callout. I would use approximately: 1/4 cup water, 1/4 cup alcohol and 1 tsp soap to start and double as needed pending the size of your plant. The spray bottle I am using is 16oz so I started with about 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup alcohol, and 2 tsps of soap for this plant specifically. The umbrella plant is in a 6" diameter plant pot and I should also call out I used 91% Isopropyl Alcohol. I have updated these details in the description - thanks!
when I wrap the seed in paper + water in the dark, should I wet the paper every day ? Or during the day ? along the weeks
Not everyday, only add water if the paper starts to dry out. If you store it in a sealed container, you really only need to check it once a week or so.
Do I need to replace the water? If so, how often?
yes - we recommend changing the water every week or 2, whenever the water starts to look dirty/not clear. We have more detailed steps on our blog post if you want more tips! rt1home.com/blogs/how-to/grow-an-avocado-plant-bag-sprouting-method
thank you i m going to try it!
Let us know how it goes for you! ☺💚
ok@@RT1home
how often should they be watered
For which technique? For the Avocado plants grown in water, you just need to make sure you keep the roots fully covered in water. For the Avocado plant that is potted - water when top layer of Soil is dry.
Thanks for sharing, how many cm of small pebbles to add?
Thanks for watching! For any of the pebble techniques I just suggest to use a thin layer of pebbles - there is no specific measurement. Hope that helps 💚
@@RT1homeThank you for letting me know.
Oh I see now.
Thank you, I was wondering how I was suposed to peel them, Im gonna try to soak them like you did 😂

I would really recommend removing from the pot so you can make sure the stems are lined up well. You risk breaking the stems by forcing them into a braid inside the pot. Hope that helps!
@@RT1home thanks I'll make sure I remove it can't wait to braid my giant snake plants
keep us posted on how it turns out :) @@Morid13Rocks
@@RT1home oh I braided two of my bigger floppy snake plants and they look gorgeous. Removing them from the pot definitely helped get the braids neater and tighter for sure. I'm delighted thanks for your help 💚
@Morid13Rocks amazing ! Thank you for sharing that update 😍
Kyoto broom making craft is missing in action. Resurrect Japanese authentic culture and heritage. Americanism amazement is a false narrative. LoveYou.
This is how I cleaned my wedding and engagement rings. They shined like new....minus the oil.
Oh lovely! Hopefully your rings weren’t as rusted as these scissors ☺️
This video is gold!! 🎉

Love this recipe! Can’t wait to try it. Looks super refreshing. 🍋
Thank you! Let me know how it turns out for you ☺️
What if your root isn’t growing straight down?
You can gently try to re-direct it's growth, but as long as the root is still submerged in water, it really doesn't matter for growth. If you accidentally break the root/roots they will grow back! Just make sure the root is still able to absorb water. 💚
Can I use the paper /bag method if I have already started in water
@@ginawilloughby3564 sorry I missed this, yes definitely! If your seed is not sprouting over water, you can just use the same seed and follow the same steps for the bag method as shown in the video / blog post. Good luck! 😄
