Source: www.podbean.com/eau/pb-w65vu-15c0cf9 This Episode I had the pleasure of the host of Floppy Days, Randy Kindig. 11 years and 141 episodes so far and his quest to cover every home computer chronologically has only got him to 1984's Grundy Newbrain! what dedication. Randy Speaks to me about his motivation and collection of vintage computers and we share our observations on how computing ha...

Ceefax is still alive in 2024 - Nathan Dane
Переглядів 2759 місяців тому
Source: www.podbean.com/eau/pb-ygbmz-155a7f6 At 23:32:19 BST on 23 October 2012, Schoolboy Nathan Dane witnessed the close down of BBC's teletext service CEEFAX. The following years a pursuit to revive the abandoned service was realised with NMS CEEFAX, a fully working and up to date teletext service that can be used by anyone with an internet connection. Nathan's endeavours were now a national...

There are some audio issues but not as many thanks to Mr Yak who, in my opinion...

Byte High no Limit, Joe Banks - Disinformation
And the BBC who ran cefax got their facts wrong. Teletext was not replaced by computers and smart phones, it was made redundant by digital tv.
17:10 It's not just web pages. Other things like fast food restaurant adverts or music videos; I do know someone who was triggered by the "fake teletext" on those.
The simplicity and accessibility of Ceefax without the need for internet or mobile signal is why it should be brought back or at least developed into a much better Red Button service
It wont run on digital tv's, it has been replaced by a hugely substandard system.
It was a great service This should return as millions of elderly still don’t have WiFi or even freeview, The information was great
Also on various larger TVs your football scores update via a page number which appears in on of the corners of the screen, just press the posh update button and leave the football your team on the page, Good old days Just imagine the elderly picking up a controller and speaking into it, to Beryle down the road a text conversation would the elderly like this???
Great in-depth interview on a fascinating piece of history.
Fun fact: Ukrainian Inter TV Channel once had it's own Ceefax. This Ceefax was called «InterText» and was continuing it's existence even after Ceefax stopped it's existence. If FOX had it's own teletext service, it would be called «FoxText», Disney Channel would call it's own Ceefax «DisneyText», Nickelodeon's teletext would be called «NickText» Turner Broadcasting System would call their Ceefax «TurnerText» And if Corus Entertainment had it's own Ceefax, it would be called «CorusText»
That James Domestic bloke is a living legend. A lens through which we could all benefit from looking through.
I want ceegax to shift
NRK in Norway still has Teletext, it's too popular to shut down.
@@CrazyTobster YLE in Finland too!
RAI does in Italy too. Even an official emulator of it!
ARD in Germany does as well.
Ukrainian Inter TV Channel also had it's own Ceefax
Spanish TVE also still has teletext
Arguably you could say Teletext was the internet before the internet. It is effectively a network transmitting dumb terminals.
I grew up using Ceefax!
More poetry on Breakfast TV! Nice feature.
We love.janes domestic ❤
Fantastic feature of James Domestic. A fab poet, punkster and bloke
low quality because text
Thank you for this work !
Sent Bob an email, been a while since we spoken, good to hear his voice. Tears in the eyes for the stuff dev-kits and all now sadly thrown away! Now we can only look on name, and see what really unbelievable task was done on some Arcade conversions. Rampage 3-player yep not easy. Blast from the really past! Nice podcast btw. I'll check your others. And yes I'm the mike I think on the book.
I just managed to finish this today. A wonderful listen, loved the insight into cost of pressing vinyl records and the Copier/ask hole poems! :D
Will the pledges be carried out once a fortnight on Tuesday or Thursday?
I remember Planet Sound very well. I'd write up my comments, fax them to The Void, John would type them up and I'd read 'em on screen I remember one of John's reviews of a new single by Chris de Burgh: 'Amongst a welter of feedback it starts before de Burgh starts his political rant.....Oh! Come on what do you think it's like' Then there was the gig guide. In the London area, 26 rolling pages of gigs. It didn't say what type of music it was but you could tell from their name. I found Small World that way and tracked down The Pirates at Dingwalls when they played again. I read that it closed not because it wasn't popular but because no one could come up with a business model. When Peel died I remember reading that it would now would be harder for new groups to breakout, so it was with Planet Sound. Let me try to break a group here: The Surfrajettes tour the UK in October: 17.10.24 New Cross Inn, London. 18.10.24 Manchester Academy. 19.10.24 Brighton Dust. 20.10.24 Norwich Adrian Flux. 21.10.24 Birmingham Night Owl.
Yes, loving the on-location recording. It really adds atmosphere. Very appropriate!
It's a great pub chat
When will binface introduce free interstellar travel for the over 60s?
Bindependence Day is coming
That was great!
Brilliant, I am glad you liked it, thanks for listening.
Thanks Bob! (A fellow Welshman, I'm up near Brecon) I still have my Currys Christmas released Echosoft Organ Master and ZX Spectrum 128k+ bundle up in the loft 😁
thank you for listening, I am glad you enjoyed it.
excellent work mate
Nostalgia overload!
Yes, definitely. Sad that times change. It's now an old people's home with a food bank and charity shop and they are both closed down. Thanks for finding and watching.
The Rampage jacket story is great. You totally deserved one. I’ll never forget the day I got Rampage on the Spectrum. I think I had the day off school and it was brand new. I agree the game gets repetitive but I loved that arcade then and you did a great job if you’re reading, Bob.
Thanks for the comment, that's so nice. I will pass it on to Bob if he is not already reading.
Great interview Carl, off to listen to part two👍👍👍
excellent, thank you!
12:01 Orsen Wells was Unicron, not Optimus Prime!
Hi Codetapper, thanks for listening. Good spot on that one. 👍
This was awesome, both parts 1 and 2, cheers.
Thank you Sir! He is a great Guest.
I identify AS this
Thank you Dan, Nathan was brilliant I am sure you agree.
It’s another fantastic piece of social documentation, with some nice stories in there. I don’t know why, but I loved that Nathan won a Raspberry Pi at school! 😄
damn son
😵
That's quite a coup that you managed to get the much-loved Eduard Khil to present! Best bit is when the cyclist drives past! You really get a sense of the projection's scale.
He was a pro from start to finish. So easy to work with.
