Thank you Anthony and Jim for such a refreshing take on developing young athletes. I am the parent of a 14-yr old AAA player and am really struggling with a coach that seems to value regular season wins more than whole-team progression as measured at the end of the season. Every team makes the playoff tournament so regular season wins aren't required. This short-term goal seems to rely heavily on shortening the bench which improves the top lines but leaves the other lines to whither on the vine. They lose confidence as the coach is essentially telling them that he doesn't have confidence in them and doesn't value their progression as much as his more skilled and usually larger, more physically developed players. If they make mistakes, they get less playing time. When the top lines make mistakes, they DON'T get less playing time. Ironically, it seems that some of the top players' progression has flatened out as the season has progressed as other players in the league have grown to become bigger, faster and stronger. Other teams who have taken a balanced approach to ice time seem to have improved as a team across all the lines. My instinct is to have a conversation with the coach to try to understand his approach but I am worried that I am going to antagonize him and he'll take it out on my son. Any suggestions? Thanks again for the insightful and encouraging discussion.

That man right there is the greatest teacher on your body and what it takes to be the best. I came to Pitt at 357lbs as a true freshman in 99 before the season started. I was 295 by camp. 😂😂😂 I hate turkey sandwiches now bc that was my diet. Turkey, whole wheat bread, one slice of cheese and figure out a lettuce. If you just listen to his crazy ass he will make you something you would have never imagined. I don't workout as much but I never got over 300, im 270 and I have MS with no symptoms and no meds, diagnosed at 20yrs old at Pitt. Buddy I gotta hand to you thank you for a life lesson bro👊🏽👊🏽
