To answer his question on what kind of snake it is, that's a python as far as I can tell. If a snake is colored like that, it's probably a python. I owned a python for a while one time, it was pretty cool. Not only are they not venomous, they're also pretty friendly (as long as you don't piss it off, but that goes for most animals).
