I suggested a proposal for Vicinity Centres for a combined Aquarium, Arcade, Indoor Ski-Field (A QLD First), Escape Room, Lazertag, and an Art-illusion (similar to Artvo on the Gold Coast). I called it Uptown Aquarius. And then just recently they replied to me with an email stating “Our Centre Management are delighted to say that we will consider transforming the old Myer space into something new & exciting and the team will take your proposal into strong consideration as part of a wider transformation turning Uptown into Brisbanes top destination again. We will keep you updated on what’s happening Uptown”

@@timecapsulecaptures9846 guess what, I just read on the Courier mail that MYER are actually looking into moving into the Treasury Casino in the future, once the casino eventually moves into Queens Wharf. They are still yet to finalise, but it depends on whether or not they have more delays with the opening of phase 1 of Queens Wharf. It won't be until about 2 - 3 years until a MYER store will open at the treasury casino, assuming that this is confirmed as the new location. This is because, they would need to move out the Casino and then refurbish it which could take a year or so. But the Treasury Casino was already planned to be turned into a department store once Queens Wharf opened, so I think MYER are looking into moving there to stop potential overseas department store from coming into Australia like Daimaru did in the 90s & early 2000s.

The MYER Centre was run down. Hopefully with MYER out, they can finally redevelop UPTOWN into a Modern CBD Shopping precint that everyone wants to go to. I think it needs a Nightclub, a King/Pin and a collection of Restaurants in the Old Myer Store Location. In addition, it also needs a KMART.

The trend in the CDB has been towards high-end shopping. Uptown can either go that route or decide to focus on affordable shopping. It did seem to go for the 'affordable' side when Target and Lincraft became major tenants.

@@timecapsulecaptures9846 Honestly, if I was them, I would aim UPTOWN toward low-cost and affordable shopping, as well as a major dining & entertainment space, then they could attract smaller low-cost department stores like KMART & TK MAXX to the old MYER Store, & if we eased the pressure off rent, than we could even attract small local businesses to the city. Considering that we are in a cost-of-living crisis, they are not going to get much premium demand. Other than failed negotiations, I think another reason why MYER moved out is because of a trend away from major department stores to smaller low-cost ones like Kmart, as well as a rise in online shopping. Many say that Myer may move into Wintergarden or Queens Plaza, but I actually think that when Queens Wharf opens & the Treasury Casino is converted into a department store, I think MYER might just end up moving into one of the old Treasury Casino buildings or they may possibly even move into Queens Wharf with a Downsized store. I am surprised, however, that MYER didn't keep at least 1 floor for managing online orders as an online distribution center. Then again, since 2019, MYER have been closing a lot of stores, including Loganholme, Hornsby and Blacktown in Sydney, Frankston & Know in Melbourne, Colonades in Adelaide & just recently, their Brisbane store. Also, many other stores have been significantly downsized, such as Chermside, Adelaide, Belconnen, ACT (closed but reopened some floors), as well as their Melbourne and Sydney flagship stores which have also already been downsized. In addition, many other stores across Australia are also planned to be downsized or even closed over the next few years. It seems to me that maybe this is indicating the beginning of MYER's long decline. One thing that I am certain about, David Jones is going to have a great time without MYER up on the other end of Queen Street Mall.

@@arthurwatts1680 if you follow the progression of changes they made after they turned the fountains off and the 2010 redevelopment. It was 100 percent to keep the emo scene kids from occupying the space.

It's an event space now??? The top section was last to change and it was so cluttered it was practically useless as the whole area had become a thorough fare. people who want parklands go precisely there, roma st, sth bank and garden point.

It was rebuilt to move more people through without them walking through gardens and around hedges

That’s the point, it was turned into a thoroughfare to make it easier to access Roma Street Station from the Queen street mall to ease foot traffic through Anzac Arcade & Central Station .

This was great thank you! I had no idea that (now) Irish pub was called The People's Palace! I see it in the architecture. I've never even thought about Brisbane in 1898 so I loved seeing Customs House back then. Thank you for doing this 🫶👏

Had a good laugh seeing it go from a temperance hostel to a bar/hostel combo in a little under 70 years. Surprised it took us that long!
