Nice work. I tried it with non-square 6" x 8" hard base. Same principles applied. I didn't find proper studs, so I used regular short bolts and safety nuts (look nicer and rounder, than regular nuts). I tried wood-glue (the white paste type, applied with a knife) and the result was alright.
