How someone can better talking about the spontaneus music ; i absolutly agree with all Cecil said (if C . Taylor made Free-jazz ; Ellington made Free-jazz ; (Ragtime ; Charleston ; Swing or Be-bop are a mind-free in music)

I have a number of Ella Fitzgerald CDs and recordings because I love her work and remember seeing her on shows like Ed Sullivan. I completely forgot about Mel Torme!! Thanks for reintroducing him to me. I need to start scouring UA-cam and Apple Music for his tunes.

WOW. So much talent in one spot. So amazing to hear. Her voice so incredible. So clear and perfect. There will never be another Ella Fitzgerald. Back in my generation, some people used to make fun of Mel Torme. They never gave him the credit he deserved. He was a mellow-voiced singer and also a songwriter. If those people poking fun of him ever heard this, they would take back every mean thing they ever said about him. Nothing like hearing a little jazz and scat to make your day brighter.

One of my most gratifying evenings was sneaking in to the Ella Fitzgerald concert for the then new Smith College President. Fortunately, the window I climbed in was where the Will Mastin trio was hanging out and they thought this white college kid was cool. She had a fuschia scarf that she used as a prop. No one wanted her singing to end. Smooth as silk.

Saludos afectuosos y gracias nuevamente.

6 years and no comments on this incredibly deep and powerful performance? at the height of the controversy over this beloved figure speaking out in anger at the injustice of the Little Rock Nine? Interjecting a "Star Spangled Banner" quote into this spiritual? shame, shame.... Would love to know more about the rest of this show around which this sanctified moment appeared...

Hi Sir - Ozou`ne Sundalyah here. Thanks for sharing this Video with us. I have been trying to find Sir Gilberto who I met many years ago. He gave me his a Score of his Composition La Zorra and said that I should feel free to perform it with my Group. I am the Musical Director for JaMM Big Band and we hope to perform his La Zorra Composition on April 30, 2024, International Jazz Day. I would so love to touch base with him as he was so complimentary regarding my playing as I also so respected and so enjoyed his playing whenever we jammed. Blessings and thanks again.

Seiji Ozawa, distinguished and esteemed for his profound influence in the realm of classical music, solidified his status as an eminent conductor in the late twentieth century. His presence, characterized by a compelling gravitas, captivated orchestral performers. Under his baton, orchestras were seemingly entranced, coalescing around his artistic vision, thereby weaving performances of meticulous craftsmanship and nuanced interpretation. He has long been associated with orchestral works by American composers. His interpretations of pieces by composers such as Gershwin and Copland have left an indelible mark on the classical music world. This was indeed his sole specialty, a testament to his artistry and unwavering commitment to musical excellence. Yet, through his extensive discography, Seiji Ozawa’s legacy will endure beyond the podium, inspiring and resonating with future generations.

I've seen so many comments about people saying Oscar is the greatest pianist ever. Oscar always humbly mentioned Art Tatum with reverence. Those stories about Shostakovich, Horowitz paying their respects to Art!
