From the Ashes: Origins, Legacy and Future of Black Theatre Troupe
When City of Phoenix employee Helen K. Mason, founded a community theatre in the 1970’s to combat the rough edges of a divided Phoenix landscape, magic was made. From that time and for the next 50+ years, that space became home for countless Arizona creatives to develop talent, share experiences, and thrive in the American Southwest. Here is a glimpse into that history, which features just some of the more than 20 hours of interviews and archival footage from seasoned and newer troupe members to tell the story of a small theatre that quite literally grew from the ashes.
