“N’ah I mean seriously...”, during the hot tub, is one of the only times you can heard the accent creep through. That and “hot pants”.
Only thing I can think of is awesome. These guys were better than the American rappers I wish they hadn’t come clean!
yh i rlly wish they’d had some option right in the middle were they'd at least have come clean to their crew (smwh near the start) and then by and by to their fans (near the middle) then it would have spared most of the damage, and no fall out would've ensued.. but honestly, those are probz hopeless dreams
They obviously had the talent, but were denied success due to an accident of geography. Fair play to them for fooling the people who dictate which accent is acceptable for rap and which isn't.
I don't understand why they were rejected in the first place. Weren't Goldie Lookin Chain rapping in Welsh around that time?

I'm not Scottish but I found it really offensive that they weren't taken seriously because they came from Scotland. What they have to say is universal. How they managed to keep up with the US accents 24/7 must have been really tough. I really admire them.
Amazing how no one from their Scottish past “stuck them in” whilst they were having their success as Silibil ‘n’ Brains!

Just watched the excellent Storyville documentary about Silibil N Brains. It's a great story and I think someone should adapt it for a screen play.
most rock/pop bands sound as though they are from America so why not these. I remember Biff Byford lead singer of Saxon on stage giving it large in this big American accent and someone shouted out turn it in your from Barnsley
The initial mistake they made was in trying to audition in England - not a good idea if you're Scottish, if they just went straight to America in the first place, they most likely would have immediately been seen as a big deal even before their Californian personas - which they could have used like their alt character alter ehos or something (a lot of rapping musicians do that), there is definitely a market for it there, but it's like Vanilla Ice, he did a similar thing with his background claiming to be from another state there than he was and when that came out it kind of made him come off 'not being real' as they would say. Although with their Californian personas they did just about break through into the mainstream as they were increasingly becoming more and more popular, but when Sony's merger and subsequent job losses left them without supporters in the record company and their planned first single was delayed for at least 6 months as the label was forced to focus on other acts. Boyd had left to get married and his wife was pregnant so he left the group, moved back to Scotland, and got work in the oil industry. Bain continued performing as Brains on a smaller scale, but he subsequently just came out and revealed the hoax.

Read one of their interviews or something. That WAS their initial plant. They wanted to fuck up the music industry. The plan was that. Become very famous then come clean. But then they got addicted to their personality,and didn't recognize themselves anymore. They forgot all about that "plan".

It would have been better if they had stuck it out and carried on as Scottish Rappers. Or just gone to USA and attempted to start their. If they were that good . . . I am sure they would have been successful.
They do still make music, they are basically like Scotland's ICP (Insane Clown Posse) as in they prefer to just stay underground, I think they just wanted to piss off the music industry as revenge but they didn't actually want to be that big but when they realised they were really blowing up and starting to get too popular, they just decided to come clean because they thought the original plan for reverge had run its course and was going much further along than they initially planned.
As good as any duo we have seen in existence. The industry is a joke. You guys were/are dope.

I'm a musician who doesn't like rap that much but Bain is as good as any of them, that's why he got away with it so long.

Gavin man, you are an inspiration to musicians wanting it for the rite reasons man. I've read your book with in a week and checked out all the music I can that they will let me stream, I don't get why more people don't know about this story? Keep it up dude! If you're in London still, I would buy you a round or two no doubt!
