Great tips! Saved us a headache!
I wish I had seen this yesterday, I had to figure it out on my our. I end up using two small zip ties to hold the spring in place. Thanks for posting.
Amazing!!!
Thank you for this video Don. I will be replacing my parking brake on my '01 Convertible this week once the weather cools down. I saw in another video you can use a zip tie to hold the spring in place as well and cut it off once complete. Thanks again Don!
Worked Great!! This was a fast, easy fix. I did note the two holes were not drilled in a line to prevent creating a potential weak point in the hinge. Thanks!
Your idea of a string was inspirational. Instead of tying the spring to the shoe I installed the spring in its operating position, looped the string around the spring and straddled the hub and secred it to a stud. That kept the spring in place as I slid the shoes over the spring and mounted it to the piston assembly. Real easy.
Great video, saved me a sit ton of time. Thanks
Very helpful, thank you!
Im convinced if you get to sent to hell they just have you install these over and over again
Thank you so much, this is a life saver!
Good
Enjoyed~ that's interesting drone- see you later-Don-
Genius! Thanks for the tip.
Hope it Helped
@@donmcneeley7019 It did! Finished it up last night. Pulled my handbrake this morning and my handbrake lever broke. The joys of owning a 25 year old Corvette
@@Dan-gj1hz that totally sucks
2005 CTS same system no videos....except this one! Thanks for posting!
I am replacing my rear bearing hubs on my 2002 C5 so I have the advantage of setting the springs up with no problem. I have to say it amazes me that the spring is not secured at the 12 o'clock position. Was rhe engineer feeling lazy that day? High end car with a half a$$ parking break design.
No doubt
I had to pull my rotor off to replace it on my 06 Cadillac. I ended up pulling off the parking brake shoe and that d#%n spring I fought with it for an hour and a half and ended up getting it to stay in with a screwdriver and a lot of frustration. My hat is off to you sir 👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you for the tip! What a bullshit design.....
Where did you get updated springs?
Thank you!
This method really helped on my C5 Thanks for uploading this video
Open the garage bud 😂
Needs a cam. Ha
Thank You Sir! The string is a slick trick.
Kept me from pulling my hair out !
Do you have anymore footage of BOND's performance here?
Starts video saying two holes favor the rear when in fact they favor the front
Thanks!! Saved me a lot of time
💖 "Promo sm"
I use a flathead screwdriver that I used a dremel to modify to have a half moon shape (to easily push the spring through the gap in the shoe and hub, and set it under the tabs)
Man I'd buy you a beer if I could,, was about to pull my hair out and finally came across this video...all I can say is thank you very much...was about to melt down trying to install these springs.👏🙌
Glad it helped. I couldn't find any videos when I tackled the job. Several gray hairs later I came up with this idea.
Hey thanks for doing the video Don. After futzing around with that rear brake shoe for a good while, the string trick had it back on there in no time after watching your video. Much appreciated!
Thanks for filming and sharing. Enjoyed meeting you on that trip! Awesome!
wow this is such a cool sea scooter
Definately a lot of fun. And water is crystal clear.
I have the same parking barke om My Chevy Trans Sport 2004. And i gave up after 1h today.. Will try this om mine.. Thanx for this video..
Works great. Hope it worked as easy for you

Excellent.
Kia sportage has same handbreak but instead of clip you just push it up 😅
Thanks a lot for the vid!I just pulled my spring off while removing the rotor to paint it and the caliper and was thinking to myself “ How in the hell am I going to get this back on!”
I just did this 2 days ago and watching this video definitely gave me a heads up on what to expect. I did it a little different but it worked like a charm. I used some solid 24 GA galvanized wire and secured the spring in place before even putting the shoe on. There is a hole because of the tab in the backing plate so I routed the wire through there and wound it tight to secure the spring in place for both tabs. Once the spring was in place then I routed the shoe over it. This left me plenty of working room to pry the ends of the springs inside the shoe. Once all is in place then cut or unwind the wire and slide it out. 10 minutes, tops
Glad it helped !
Thank you very much for sharing your information. It is people like you that make the web a wonderful place, and UA-cam for providing the vehicle.
Thanx for the great video. After seeing this I'll probably pull the wheel hub off and see how that works. Almost like GM doesn't want us in there tinkering around! Thanx again.
Good video. Very rewarding and save a lot of money doing things yourself.
I'm having the same hell with my C6 parking brake replacement . I'm eager to try your tip. Update: This method works great. I Used 2 zip ties, one for each lining hole to secure spring inside shoe. Also used very thin needle nose pliers to place spring on spring perch. Open end ignition wrench also works since it thin and wrench open end forks keeps spring wire from slipping out.
Awesome
the best way is to put the spring in place and bend the tabs over it and then put the brakes on works for me
I was able to utilize the large hole in the hub to maneuver the spring into the catch with a screwdriver. The string was helpful too!
Wow" thank you so much.
Same story on our Cadillac STS... Three hours for nothing but thanks to god I found that the C6 uses the same system. You made my day. Many thanks from Germany 👍
Thanks from Newnan. Like another comment, i was trying to pull the rotor and it pulled the e brake with it. That little spring flew right on out. A simple job trying to turn into a nightmare. Ugh.
Thanks,very informative !
