As a young buckeye fan sitting watching this...we were stunned when that happend. My family kind of sat there silent. Then my dad just said...well thats it for woody. He will be fired by tomorrow..and he was right. A bad ending for a legend. Still shake my head after all these years.

It's incredible that people in Ohio still defend Hayes. He had a long history of losing control, hitting his own players in practice was routine. Had a coach like that once, coincidentally just south of Columbus in a school system.that was rival to where Art Schlicter was then playing (this was mid 1970s) This coach would kick us, hit us, sometimes had us fighting each other. On a junior high football team! Very much the same situation as Hayes. Local residents thought highly of him "oh but he wins a lot of games, he imparts great life lessons, it's just what these kids need. . . " Quitting that team remains one of the best things I have ever done. A defining moment if my life.

I was there they called bad call on gamecocks and took a td from us.

At least this time its wasnt a brawl like last years (2004) and i loved the way both teams came in the middle of the field and shook hands.

This game broadcast was somewhat infamously cancelled by Jefferson-Pilot, with JP boss Jimmy Rayburn declaring, "No one outside of South Carolina gives a hoot about this game." A furious phone campaign from fans of both schools led to J-P doing an about-face and doing this ad-hoc broadcast as part of its SEC package. Rathbun & Jennings weren't even finalized as announcers a week before the game.

Rod Gardener, Travis Zachery are some names that heavily contributed to the Tigers resurrgence. I was at this game for the 2000 season for the Gardener "push off" win. I played in high school with Jamelle Kelly of SC. I stopped talking to him when he commited to the cocks.

After this season my pops would say, "My Tigers are the best 3-8 team in the country!" He meant it too. 😂

I remember watching this live! He is still one of the greatest coaches ever. He just lost his cool. I once had a coach in Little League who would grab us by our face mask and shake us around. We lost only 2 games in 3 years. I don't condone these things, but it was a different time, and coaches showed their anger!

I was at this game. Great experience. A ton of electricity in the stadium that night. 1). Temporary lights allowing UGA to play its first home game under lights for decades (or ever). Was referred to as The Night Fight. 2). The previous 2 National Champions were going head to head. 3. UGA won the game.

The other significance of this game…it is the only game College or Pro that Calvin Johnson did NOT record a reception in a game

I was there. My sign kept getting crowded out by the "Taj" Mahal and the "If you can read this..." signs. My dad asked me to make a sign that says "Hi Dad" because according to him everyone puts "Hi Mom" but never Dad. Fun fact, I parked at the one garage downtown at the time thinking I'd be fine and my car got towed. The buses didn't go to the campus that early before a game so I had to walk a few miles down to the Bi-Lo to catch the bus the rest of the way to my apartment. I rode the bus later to campus so I could actually go to the game. Clemson really fucks over their students on football game days 🙄

How did we get here???? Bowing out of playing in " meaningless " Bowl games to prepare for the NFL. CONGRATS guys......you've killed one of the purest sports in America.
