I had this machine, and I wish I had it again! I could tell you horror stories about my forays into the computer driven washer world, but all of them would be a nightmare. I much prefer this model to anything else made today.

That rattling and lack of speed control is all related to the clutch. That motor looks very rough as well. Your leak could very well be the boot seal under the inner tub. I'd fix it up if I were you.

Thw single action agitator is better. HE detergent is still good on those old ones. Spray rinse is the most energy efficient.

Just need an eco cycle, hot-warm-cool-cold on wash selection, warm-cool-cold on rinse, Normal-Gentle on agitaton and Normal-Genltle on spin. The Wash and Rinse options should be separate switched. Agitate and spin switch should be separate switches.

I had the Hotpoint version. Great machine. No issues.

Get a cheap piercing valve and then you can check the refrigerant with a gauge and stop guessing.

It'snot going to go in the slow speed, because the clutch is shot. Someone changed the speed from normal to slow, when it was running. You have a replace the clutch.

My dad worked for ge we had a few of these , built like tanks but the swirl agitators were better. This machine is from the 70s

My aunt had the same washer as a kid. She also had the matching dryer with the extra large drum. She got hers around '79/'80.

Compressor could have a low charge

Seems to me that's normal. The compact models use the same drive system as the full size machines. The basket in the compact models weigh less than the full size models, so it stops spinning faster.

Careful to change speeds during the motor is running, If u wanna a change u must stop the motor, wait for 1 min until it fully stop and then change the speed, the sound u hear is the motor trying to to change, but u can ruin it very easy!!!

Normally the older ge's spun much faster than that something must be wrong they definitely were very fast spinners faster than the direct drives

Now whatever speed option it's set up then you have to leave it there you're not supposed to change the speed option on it not until it's finished

Finally a video with the straight vain agitator like this. Just about every filter flow video has the ramped one. I personally prefer straight vains over ramps.

What a GREAT find!!! Congratulation, you are extremely fortunate to have this washer. This straight 4-vane Activator agitator actually does a much better job of continuous turnover than the 8 vane. It is so worth restoring. It is a 1978 model and the spin speed is 610 RPM's
