Okay, let's talk about the fact that the tragedy of Jane Doe is even more serious than we might have thought. In fact, she has not forgotten life, she has forgotten herself in life. Imagine how scary it is to remember people and not remember which one of them is your parents, to remember at home and not know which one is yours. I remember watching a UA-cam video of a man with dementia talking to his daughter. He says, "I'm scared when you call me Dad." Actually, it's the same thing. Now open your gallery and imagine that you have lost your memory. Most likely, these are photos of people you care about. Family, friends, colleagues. Otherwise, why would you take pictures of them? But you don't know them. And you don't know who you are in this selfie and who your sister is. She relives her death over and over again. The moment of death flashes before her eyes, not her whole life. Her scream. The scream of the crowd. Flight. Hitting the ground. Screams. Flight. Neck pain. Scream...
Not so fun fact: the high notes are supposed to resemble her screams as she was beheaded
How'd you find that out?:0

The thing that makes this song work so well (and doesn’t get enough credit) is how it contrasts with the show. The set and costumes for the show are relatively small (especially for the quick changes) and the set is close to nonexistent (no cyclone or rollacoster set, no expensive backgrounds or even I. This song they use umbrellas with string lights) this works really well. However the one huge exception is Jane doe flying. Because this effect is so grand compared to the others it is more breathtaking and real. For example in a show like Peter Pan they flying effect is cool but once it is used enough it more monotone. In cyclone though it has one use and they use a flying system not really used in musical theater (no strings) this leaves the audience seeing a remarkably complex effect in a relatively abstract show. This makes it feel real and also how do you sing those notes (LET ALONE UPSIDEDOWN?!??)
Wow that’s a lot of words
@Notonpunishment To relply "wow that's a lot of words" is kinda an arsehole thing to say after someone makes a very good comment. We are SUPPOSED to comment on things we like to boost the algorithm so others might end up seeing it too. To see someone excited about how GOOD a song is, then have someone else say their reaction is too much, is the opposite of what we're dong. Don't make someone feel self coconscious about encouraging words, Please.
@Notonpunishment dude I wrote one big paragraph. It doesn’t affect you. I have to write at least 5x this for HIGH SCHOOL homework every night. What is a lot of words to you? Did you pick up a dr. Seuss book and say “that’s a lot of words.” I wish I could see the look on your face when you finally see a chapter book (sorry if that’s to many words 😂) get a life and ya I write a lot. I have a lot to say I like this show and the direction. I would say find a hobby but a lot of them require dedication and reading. So maybe not 😬

Note for self: 3:48 - 5:00
This is a small detail, but in most of the time when actors play creepy characters they choose not to blink for long periods of time to make them look dead inside. Jane blinks excessively, it’s probably because those contacts are super uncomfortable and also since she has a dolls head the only thing scarier than a doll not blinking is a doll blinking a lot.
Yeah, it reminded me of those dolls with the eyes that blink whenever you move their heads. Very spooky!

Tries to sing. (Bad) Me watching the video after.: *cough*... Showoff.
I've always loved how the lighting technicians played with the lights in such a way that further obfuscated her eyes or entire face at parts, such as right at the end. it plays well and very subtly into the themes of identity with her character, and both A. how her "face" is not her own- being instead that of the doll with which she entered at the beginning-, for she doesn't know her own, and B. how she had lost her head in the accident. what's more, Emily Rohm does wonderfully throughout the whole performance at portraying Jane Doe down to the last jolt as robotic (or doll-like) in movement, lacking any recollection of having once moved as a person does. the small, uncanny bursts of movement for each turn of the head as she looks around all akin to a curious and confused animal, the way her body wobbles as she stills at the centre of the stage like an off-balance, tattered old doll; it's all amazingly subtle and consistent. her tone remains stolid and monotonous at all times, save only for moments within her musical number, portraying the unmitigated existential anguish haunting her body in place of her own soul, alluding again to the doll in place of her head. her song delivery was beautiful for every second, so much so I find myself bereft of words. notes and tones that can stop the heart. I, like many others, love the scene she shares with Ricky, in which he gives her the name he had been saving for a character very important to him, and I love her response of "Savannah with the greenest eyes." Jane Doe's story is its very own roller coaster, and Rohm's performance is awe-inspiring.

can someone explain to me about each of the charas? Need an expert nyeheeh
Fortunately, you have a somewhat expert (me). I will be talking about the characters from left to right in that beginning frame and talking about the titul Jane Doe character afterwards. Before I explain the characters, I might as well go through the general plot of the musical. Basically, there are these high schoolers in this choir, and they go ride on a roller coaster called the Cyclone at the carnival they're performing at. Unfortunately, they die on the Cyclone. Karnak, one of the carnival attractions (the guy who talks about Jane early on), decides to put them in limbo to participate in a singing competition to dictate who will be brought back to life. The musical centers around all of them singing about their dreams in life and whatnot. Firstly, there is Ocean O'connell Rosenberg. Ocean was pretty much top of her class when she was alive. She views people based on their achievements in life, and her song is about her calling everyone pieces of crap and that she is the best one. Next, there is Noel Gruber. Noel grew up as a gay kid and had always had a fascination with France and misery. His song is about his persona, Monique Gibeau, a hooker in post-war France. Noel despises Ocean. Now, we have Richard 'Ricky' Potts. Ricky grew up with a rare degenerate disease and Autism (at least, in this version of the musical he did). Growing up as a type of outcast, he would create an elaborate storyline in his head where he saves a cat girl galaxy to put it lightly. His song is him singing about said catgirl galaxy (hence why he's dressed up like that). Now we get onto one of my favorites, Mischa Bachinski. Mischa grew up in Ukraine before his mother died from prolonged uranium exposure from being a part of the Chernobyl cleanup crew (did I mention this musical takes place in Uranium City, Canada?) Now, he would be adopted by a couple of neglective parents who would leave him in the basement. This neglect would make him very angry in the passing years. His songs are about his life being 'awesome,' and his online fiancé named Talia. Onto my favorite character, we have Constance Blackwood. I won't spoiler much of her character in case you're interested in watching the musical on UA-cam, but Constance grew up not really accomplishing much. She was always overshadowed by her friend Ocean, and she always felt like there was something beyond her small life in Canada. Her song is her accepting her death and that she had a good life. Lastly, we have Jane Doe. It is unsure whether Jane Doe was actually a part of the choir. All that everyone knows is that a girl was found decapitated once the Cyclone fully crashed. Since nobody could identify who she was, now Jane Doe herself is unaware of her original identity in the afterlife. Not even her original memories remain. Her song is about her contemplating her identity and lamenting that she will never know who she once was. I'm pretty sure the full musical is on UA-cam unless they took it down or something. Feel free to watch it or scavenge through the comments to find out what else happens.

4:27 that is a reference to Greek mythology. Look into it.
Yes, Kronos (time) was warned that he would be slain by his child, so he ate all of them at birth to prevent this (then failed but that's to symbolise the immortality of the gods, not people). I assume this is a reference to how nothing you do will be remembered after enough time. Your greatest achievements, greatest mistakes, closest friends and family - will all be forgotten eventually. However, if you do this for every reference in the song, you'd have to do an essay on it - which I assume someone has already done.
Now that I think about it, yeah. But originally I honestly thought it was a reference to her line about the lions eating their kids. This makes more sense though.

4:39 I bet we all were shocked about her singing upside down
ya
It’s kinda interesting how she says “When silence falls, does no one care?” I personally think she is referring to herself as “silence” since she probably WAS part of the choir, but due to her silent nature no one knew her or ever cared enough to even notice her, after she fell of the roller coaster (“when silence falls”) she probably felt as if no one cared about her death and didn’t give her any proper attention to what happened to her in comparison to the attention the rest of the choir got that’s why she says “Does no one care?”. Idk silly theory. Edit: came up with more things :3 : In [ 3:01 ] Constance and Noel mimic the people who watched her fall off the roller coaster and covered their eyes before she hits the ground. Also [ 3:25 ] she is gasping for air because she still remembers the carnival music that played while she was dying. It is also interesting to see how the first part of the song is more choir styled, the other half is more “vivid”, fast, and astonishing, just like a carnival;because that’s all she knows about herself, she was in the choir and was killed in the carnival. [ 5:15 ] the shadow makes it look like she has no head! [ 5:35 ] the only time we see Jane express raw emotion, because she is singing about how she wants to be remembered and she wants to know who she really is, but she can’t- that’s why she is so miserable her face shows emotion for the first time. I also noticed she says; “Just this -CONSTELLATION, TIME EATS ALL HIS CHILDREN IN THE END-“, I think she’s talking about Cronos, the Greek god of time- who ate his children afraid they would take over his throne, and the constellation bit is important, because there IS a star named after Cronos “Star HD 240430, nicknamed Kronus, that was reported to have consumed its planets”. This also makes sense because Jane’s catchphrase is LITERALLY about lion cannibalism, which is also very interesting because in Legoland it is revealed that Ezra (Penny’s/Jane’s little brother) has done extensive research about Jeffrey Dahmer (the Milwaukee Cannibal). [ 5:58 ] stars! “A choir never complete” they’re referring how even when they all met in the after life, Jane wasn’t complete- she didn’t have her memories (her head). Plus, after the accident she was revived, leaving the choir still incomplete because they were missing Jane, and when they were alive they were missing Ricky’s voice (since he was mute). I also would like to point out how the umbrellas aren’t complete (going back to my point that the choir isn’t complete) Jane and the choir are incomplete, just like umbrellas, and just how the Cyclone roller coaster ended, incomplete, and broken. When she says “Just John and me forever eternally Jane Doe” I personally believe she is talking about Ezra (her little brother) which she vaguely remembers, but he still is a stranger to her, he is unidentified to her; that’s why she calls him John, “John Doe, Jane Doe”. (She could also be referring to St. John, that’s why she metions St. Peter - St. John and St. Petter did know each other- so maybe that’s why she says “You must known where I’ve been” because apparently St. John and St. Peter were close- but I don’t I’m not sure about that last part-). Someone else also pointed out how her skirt doesn’t move, it’s stuck in a place. Just like her. Everyone else in the choir has memories or lives they could back to- Jane doesn’t she is stuck to being the “unidentified body of the cyclone disaster”, she cannot recall anything but being in the fair. (Extra: in the start Constance says: “I am so happy right now I could never come down!” And it could be a reference how happy they all felt when they rode the Cylone, only to “come down” -literally die-). I also love how in Jane’s dress she has a thick black necklace just around her neck, symbolizing her head being detached from her body. [ 0:15 ] The way she said, “My turn!” So happily because she knows that when she pushes the level down there will be photos of her life. That’s why she pushes the level twice. Edit 2: other things i noticed in different songs What The World Needs: Ocean calls Jane a “Walmart Greeter with an overdrawn credit card” which is interesting, because in Legoland it is revealed that Ezra faked seizures at Walmart along with Penny to socialize with people. Is it possible that Ocean was once a spectator of the fake seizures but she had forgotten about it and only remembers one of her choir mates at Walmart, but she doesn’t remember why? Is that why she calls Jane that? Plus, when Ocean is listing off the zeros there’s only four (Noel, Mischa, Ricky and Constance) but no Jane. Space Age Bachelor Man: She appears to be the most important “sexy cat lady” (I can’t believe I’m writing this) because she is in the middle; typically people who are most important are in the middle, people who are in 1st place are in the middle of the podium, Heather Chandler is in the middle, Regina George is too. Maybe Ricky developed a crush on Penny when she was alive, but didn’t do anything about it since- well, he was mute. Fall Suite: Jane’s note is the last and the longest. Because she was the last one to die- therefore the one to live the longest. Because a human can be alive 30-40 seconds after beheading (which would also explain her line “Below my feet, I hear the anguish of the street” because her head fell, probably to the concrete amd she could hear people panicking over the choir’s deaths. Also, she doesn’t join the competition until later, probably because she was still dying in the roller coaster and the high notes we hear in the song are her screaming while the roller coaster cart is full of dead corpses. Number 7 observations: This musical has SO MANY 7! Penny’s Birthday: April SEVENTH Lucky Number: SEVEN Cats Ricky owns: FOURTEEN (7x2) Letters in ‘Ride The Cyclone’: FOURTEEN Letters in Cyclone: SEVEN Age of (most) choir members: SEVENteen Choir members: Six, what if an extra passenger would’ve survived? Are they referring to Ezra? Apparently none of the choir members have siblings (aside from Jane) so what if he rode the Cylone? Would have he survived? Or would the accident never happen? Father Marcus (choir director) died SEVEN hours after the Cyclone disaster Also, they all live in Uranium (which is obviously named after Uranus, the SEVENTH planet of the solar system) [ this reminds me of ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ and the number 13, really ] Edit 3: This is obvious but she has no monologue unlike the rest of the choir, even in Talia the monologue IS PART of the song. So I honestly like to think that [ 0:00 - 3:27 ] is her monologue since from that point on the song actually takes flight (literally and figuratively). [ 1:51 ] is it me or the harmonies sound like the one’s in Fall Fair Suite? The outfits for the song resemble funeral attire too, but that wouldn’t make sense because if Jane was revived in the end- why would they make a funeral? She would be in the hospital and unconscious… but alive. The doctors would be working hard to attach her head back to her body, until they manage to. Maybe they’re dressing in funeral clothing because it represents what Jane wants- a funeral, an audience going to her funeral, being remembered, she wants her name carved in stone because that would mean they finally found her identity. Eggdolls theory: What if she was Talia? Karnak says “Everyone knew everyone in Uranium, but no one could recall this member of the choir.” What if she WASN’T from Uranium? What if she was from Kiev (Ukraine) and took a flight to Canada to meet her online boyfriend ? This would also explain why Talia is projected in her skirt, specifically. Ocean and Constance’s skirts inly project the field and tress, not Talia. What if she rode the cyclone because she noticed her boyfriend was riding it? Also when Mischa and Ocean are fighting whether Talia is real or not, Jane is right in the middle. Someone else pointed out that whenever Mischa looks at Jane he looks like he is trying to remember something. Penny Lamb could not be her full name, Karnak was about to die so he just said her first name and last name. Also, Penny Lamb (in LegoLand) is portrayed by the same actress who played Talia, and Penny’s husband is most likely played by Gus Halper (Mischa’s actor) as Emily Rohm (Jane Doe’s actress) said in one of her TikTok videos. Mischa isn’t on the music video either, like he disappears halfway through the song, maybe because Jane doesn’t remember him and might as well be his John Doe., like she knows he was someone important to her, but she doesn’t WHY he was important. More Greek Mythology: Penny is short for Penelope, which in Greek mythology was wife of Odysseus, who is the great-grandson of Hermes, and Hermes is son of Zeus (and Zeus is son of Cronos, who as said before- ate his children). So to a degree, Penelope is somehow related to Cronos, maybe that’s why Jane mentions him. Odysseus also sacrificed a lamb in his journey in order to communicate with the dead of the underworld. Odysseus was gone for 20 years, everyone thought he died- but his wife Penelope stayed loyal to him, thinking he would come back (which he did). “Just John and me forever eternally” Penelope didn’t cheat on Odysseus. So, Odysseus COULD be ‘John Doe’, and Jane could be saying that it’s just John (Odysseus) and Penelope (her) because they will stay loyal to each other and never cheat. Or idk I don’t like how this section turned out. Edit 4: More greek mythology! So apparently, when Zeus was hiding from his father (Cronos) he had to be breastfed by a goat (goats are related to lambs, so yeah).
Wow all that typing and no comment I hope your hands don’t hurt when you were writing this 😭
Great observations, there's seven main characters on stage, the kids plus Karnak. Karnak tells us our lucky number is 7, maybe because there was no room for a seventh rider on the Cyclone. So we got lucky and didn't perish. Also, one of the other choir members had a sibling. Constance mentions a baby brother in her monologue before Sugar Cloud.
